Founding Product Designer
BiteLondon, Germany21 days ago
Full TimeOn-siteMid£85,000 - £85,000 / Year
figmastructural engineeringarchitectureuser researchusability testingresearch

Founding Product Designer (UX/UI & Research) London (Hybrid) | Full-time | £70 - £85K + early-team equity The role We're a well-funded startup building category-defining AI for architecture, engineering and construction: an archaic industry at a critical juncture. The Building Safety Act now requires firms to evidence their design decisions, and directors carry personal liability. Join Bite as our first in-house designer working strategically and directly with the head of product, founders and engineering team, you'll own the entire design function and lead the transformation of our beta into a high-quality user experience that shapes the future of Bite's AI for the built environment. Why join Bite The problem is genuinely hard. When a structural engineer changes a component in their building design model, the same component exists in drawings, schedules, specs and emails under different names, in different formats, some of which LLMs don't understand, and with no shared identifier. Detecting these changes, predicting the downstream impacts and propagating them using AI under the engineer's supervision is the core of our product. You'll own the UX/UI for the whole product, not a slice of it. There's no design team to inherit and no feature factory to work around. You set the direction, the patterns and the quality bar, and you'll prototype, test and ship rapidly with a small team that can pivot, fast. Your work ships to people who pay. The beta is in production with signed customers that include some of the UK's leading structural engineering firms who are keen to build with us. With our tight feedback loops, you'll have plenty of data to help drive your design decisions. What we're building Structural engineers work across numerous, fragmented sets of tools with no shared source of truth. When a design changes, propagating that change across files is manual, slow and error-prone, and the errors are expensive. Bite is the change management and audit trail layer for structural engineering. The platform does three things that today take weeks of manual work: natural-language search across a project's entire file ecosystem, cross-file impact detection e.g. "I changed Column C7 in the structural model - what drawings, schedules, and specs are now out of date?" and propagation of those changes to every affected file. What you'll do Set the design direction for our products and raise the overall bar for craft and quality. Establish and scale our design foundations, including the design system and UI patterns. Shape the visual identity and brand across every customer touchpoint. Partner with customers to shape product vision, design strategy, and the experience roadmap. Collaborate with the head of product, founders and engineering team to define problems, explore solution spaces, validate concepts, ensure technical feasibility and ship product improvements that move the metrics that matter. Analyse product performance to identify friction points and drive iterative optimisation, aligning business goals with user-centred product opportunities. Lead comprehensive user research, including interviews, surveys, behavioural analysis, prototype testing, and usability studies, to identify user needs, confirm concepts, and produce actionable insights. Translate insights, data, and business needs into user journeys, wireframes, prototypes and ultimately end-to-end, intuitive design solutions that drive meaningful improvements. Facilitate workshops to build shared understanding and present design decisions clearly to influence strategic, experience-led discussions. Encode the judgment and complexity required for complex workflows under the hood, while keeping the user experience simple and seamless. Stay current on emerging AI trends and product patterns. Build a clear point of view on what matters, and bring that perspective into how we design at Bite. What we need from you A senior or lead product designer with 5+ years of experience (preferably shipping high-quality B2B products, with expertise in AI products). An autonomous, opinionated builder who is comfortable being the sole designer and enjoys facilitating design sprints and principles within an engineering team. A creative excited to work in a fast-paced startup environment. A proven IC track record of expertise across UX/UI research, including interviews, surveys, usability testing, behavioural analysis, and the ability to translate insights into end-to-end digital experiences at scale. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and fluency in data, using qualitative and quantitative signals to validate design decisions, measure impact, and inform tradeoffs. Evidence of shipping work that moved real business or operational metrics, and an ability to talk about those numbers fluently. Demonstrated understanding of human-centred design principles and usability best practices, responsive design, product, technical, and business constraints in real-world environments. Demonstrable ability to build intuitive, user-centred experiences supported by a portfolio showing strong interaction design foundation, high-quality visual craft and attention to detail, structured problem framing and systems thinking. Advanced experience working with AI-native research, design, and collaboration tools and advanced proficiency in Figma. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce clear, concise, customer-ready documentation. Ability to move fluidly between the big question (what should this experience do?) and the craft-level detail that makes high-stakes decisions feel simple. Highly organised and adaptable, able to balance critical thinking with hands-on delivery, while contributing to the evolution of the design system and culture. Experience working autonomously to design complex, multi-step product flows. What you can expect from us Flexible, hybrid working Genuine ownership and an open and creative environment where you'll help us define the future of Bite, what we work on and our culture Passionate, growth-minded people with an entrepreneurial mindset and the confidence to operate autonomously within a fast-moving startup environment Inclusion at Bite Bite Engineering is an Equal Employment Employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, colour, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or any other legally protected status. Your product output will drive measurable business outcomes that shape the evolution of our design system to define how cyber resilience comes to life across the Immersive One platform. Our most successful product designers here bring a potent mix of strategic vision, user empathy, and analytical rigor to their work, while constantly expanding their knowledge through cross-team collaboration. You are the sparring partner for the Product Managers and Engineering teams with a close eye for scalability and commerciality - a true consultant who brings both research and evidence to the table and is able to articulate the 'Why' to validate design decisions through experimentation, metrics, and real-world usage. As an individual contributor in the team, your main responsibilities will include: Take ownership of delivering specific product features end-to-end within a quarter, ensuring your output adheres to our high standards and supports the team's quarterly goals. Partner with Product and Engineering to explore solutions, challenge assumptions and make evidence-led product decisions. Transform complex, technical cybersecurity data into clear, intuitive user interfaces by utilizing human-centered design methods such as success scenarios, information architecture, user journeys, wireframes, and prototypes. Formulate clear hypotheses to solve customer and business needs, and confidently validate your design decisions using both quantitative and qualitative research results. Use customer research, behavioral data and product metrics to inform and validate your work. Design across journeys, information architecture, workflows and reusable patterns rather than isolated features Use AI-assisted design and prototyping tools where they help accelerate exploration, testing and delivery. Ship feature updates at the end of the quarter that directly influence team KPIs, always considering how your design decisions impact areas outside your immediate focus. Create wireframes, prototypes and detailed UI using Figma, contributing to and evolving our shared design system. Contributing to knowledge sharing and the continued growth of our Product Design practice. Sounds good? We'd love to hear from you if you have proven experience in the following areas, but don't worry if you don't hit each one exactly: Solid experience in product or UX design, particularly within SaaS enterprise, data-rich products, and platform environments. Experience working in a Cybersecurity company would also be very advantageous but not essential. Experience owning work from problem definition through to shipped outcomes. A deep understanding of human-computer interaction, allowing you to mature your design approach from basic "problem solving" to strategic "outcome delivery." Confidence using research and data to make and explain design decisions. Proficiency in Figma, paired with excellent storytelling skills to concisely frame your work—clearly stating the target audience, the desired outcomes, your design reasoning, and any technical or business constraints. Curiousity about new ways of working, including AI-enabled design and prototyping. A proven ability to collaborate closely with product managers and engineering partners, as well as external customers.. Strong interest in Object-Oriented UX (OOUX), alongside experience grounding your design choices in foundational human motivations. A strong growth mindset demonstrated by setting personal goals, consistently giving and receiving constructive feedback, and outlining your own growth potential. Strong visual and interaction design craft, balanced with a focus on customer and business outcomes. As a Product Manager at Reonic , you'll own product problems from discovery through execution. You'll work closely with customers, product, design, and engineering to understand what users need, define the right solutions, and bring them to life. A strong focus of your role will be shaping the UX and UI of our product — from improving existing workflows to designing entirely new experiences. You'll combine product thinking with a strong eye for design, constantly asking: What problem are we solving, for whom, and how can we make the experience as simple and valuable as possible? You'll have significant ownership and the opportunity to directly shape how the product looks, feels, and works. Please note: This is a fully onsite role in Augsburg. What you'll do Own product problems end-to-end: Take ownership of product areas from discovery and problem definition through prioritization, design, development, launch, and iteration. Shape the user experience: Design intuitive, efficient, and delightful experiences across the product. Turn complex workflows into simple solutions that users can understand and adopt quickly. Understand our users: Talk to customers, analyze feedback and usage data, identify pain points, and develop a deep understanding of how renewable installers work. Think beyond the brief: Challenge assumptions, identify opportunities, and make sure we're solving the right problem rather than simply building what was initially requested. Design and prototype: Work hands-on with wireframes, prototypes, and UI concepts to explore solutions quickly. Iterate with users and the team before investing heavily in development. Set the UX/UI bar: Maintain a high standard for usability, consistency, accessibility, and visual quality across the product. Balance user and business needs: Make thoughtful product trade-offs based on customer value, business impact, technical feasibility, and available data. Work closely with engineering: Collaborate with engineers throughout the product development process, communicate requirements clearly, and make pragmatic decisions when trade-offs arise. Iterate after launch: Treat shipping as the beginning, not the end. Measure outcomes, collect feedback, identify opportunities, and continuously improve the product experience. Leverage AI in your workflow: Use AI tools to accelerate research, ideation, prototyping, analysis, and product development. What Makes You a Great Fit Product experience: 2+ years of experience in product management, product design, UX/UI, or a similar product-focused role, ideally in a startup or fast-growing product environment. Strong product sense: You naturally think about customer problems, business impact, and outcomes rather than simply features and output. UX/UI expertise: You have a strong understanding of interaction design, information architecture, visual design, and usability. You care deeply about how a product feels to use. Hands-on approach: You're comfortable getting into Figma, creating wireframes and prototypes, testing ideas, and iterating on designs yourself. Customer obsession: You enjoy talking to users and can translate qualitative feedback and observed behavior into clear product opportunities. Comfort with ambiguity: You can take an unclear problem, structure it, identify what matters, and move towards a solution without needing every detail defined upfront. Strong communication: You can clearly explain product decisions, design rationale, and trade-offs to engineers, designers, leadership, and other stakeholders. Ownership: You take responsibility for outcomes, make decisions, and follow problems through from initial idea to measurable impact. Technical curiosity: You enjoy working closely with engineers and are interested in understanding the technical constraints and possibilities behind the products you build. AI-native mindset: You're curious about how AI can improve both the products we build and the way we build them. Why Join Us? Real impact: Help build software that enables businesses to accelerate the transition to renewable energy. A product people use: Our platform is already used by 3,000+ paying B2B customers , giving you the opportunity to work on a product with real users and real-world impact. High ownership: We're a growing company, and nothing is set in stone. You'll have plenty of room to shape how we work and how the product evolves. Fast-moving environment: Work closely with engineering and other teams, make decisions quickly, and see your work reach customers. A great international team: We work hard, learn from each other, and make sure we have fun along the way. Great setup: MacBook, gym membership subsidy, regular team events, coffee, Deutschland ticket and other perks. Competitive compensation: We offer competitive pay based on your experience and responsibilities. Even if you don't meet every requirement, we encourage you to apply! Imposter syndrome shouldn't hold you back— we value talent and passion above all. About Reonic At Reonic, we're on a mission to simplify renewable technology. Our AI operating system helps renewable energy installers run and grow their businesses — from planning and selling solar, battery storage, and heat pump solutions to managing their day-to-day operations. Today, more than 3,000 businesses use Reonic, and we're growing fast. Location This is a full-time, on-site position based in Augsburg. Ready to shape the future of renewable energy? Apply now! Our Mission At Laelaps AI, we believe robotics is entering a transformative decade, much like the arrival of the internet. Advances in AI, cloud computing, and hardware are reshaping what autonomous systems can do. Our mission is to build the intelligent software that powers physical security in the real world - enabling robots and sensors to handle dangerous and critical tasks that humans shouldn't have to. By engineering the orchestration layer for intelligent security, we aim to create a world that is safer, more secure, and more resilient. We're a strong founding team based in Zurich, backed by visionary investors and advisors. We are engineering the future of security today! The Role You will build the Command Centre, the screen an operator uses to see what our robots and cameras see, decide in seconds, and task the fleet. Soldiers have already run our console unaided after a short introduction. Next, one operator watches many sites, and tasks robots in plain language instead of drawing routes. That needs an interface built for it. This role is engineering and design in one. You will shape the flows, prototype them, test them with operators, and ship them in production code, working with our full-stack engineer on the backend and our vision engineers on what the models show. What You'll Work On Operator interface: live video, site maps, robot positions and alerts in one view that works at 03:00. Alert triage: the flow from alert to decision: evidence, context, confirm or dismiss, dispatch a robot. Tasking by instruction: an interface for telling the fleet what to do in plain language, and seeing how it plans to do it. Design system: components and patterns that keep the product consistent as it grows. Usability: prototype, test with operators, measure, iterate. Performance: real-time streams and many sites without the interface slowing down. Who We're Looking For A frontend engineer with real UI/UX craft, who has shipped data-heavy, real-time interfaces that people rely on under pressure. Your Background 3+ years of frontend engineering with TypeScript and React. Shipped real-time, data-heavy interfaces: maps, video, dashboards or control panels. UI/UX practice: you design flows, prototype in Figma or similar, and run user tests. Comfortable with backend APIs and real-time transport (WebSockets, WebRTC). Accessibility and performance as habits, not afterthoughts. Nice to Have Control room, mission-critical or security interfaces. Mapping and geospatial libraries (Mapbox, deck.gl or similar). Building a design system from scratch. Defence or regulated customers. What We Offer Ownership: you are able to ship products and deliver project end-to-end. Mission: autonomous security that keeps people and critical sites safe, including in defence. Career path: a ground-floor seat with real runway. Prove your value and you will not have barriers to grow. Team: work directly with PhD-level co-founders in AI, Robotics, and Physics, alongside a strong (and fun) founding team. Compensation: Competitive equity/salary package Culture: International founding team that is serious about building but does not take itself too seriously. Find Jobs in Switzerland on Arbeitnow
