About Zego 🚀 At Zego, we're on a mission to do the good thing, not the insurance thing. Insurance hasn't changed much in over a century. The way we live, work and travel has. We're building the real-time, AI-driven infrastructure that powers innovative insurance, so good drivers get cover that works the way they actually drive. We're not just updating insurance; We're leading the AI evolution in insurance 🤖 For us, AI isn't a line on a roadmap or a buzzword on a slide. It's our operating reality, and it's how we build products that back drivers instead of the old insurance playbook. We don't do things slowly, and we don't do bureaucracy. We back high-performance builders who want ownership, early responsibility and the chance to do the most career-defining work of their lives. You'll get the space to try things, the tools to move fast, and the room to see your ideas reach millions of drivers. Do not take our word for it. Read what Zegons say about us on Glassdoor . If you're ready to build the future of insurance, we're hiring. Purpose of the role In 18 months, you own backend services that customers use every day, and you are ready for the next level rather than waiting for it. This is a hands-on backend role in one of our product teams for someone early in their career who is already shipping code professionally and wants to get senior fast. It is not a role for someone who wants to sit at this level for years. What you will be doing Building, testing and shipping backend services that power products our customers use every day Writing clear, well-tested code that you and your teammates will be happy to maintain Reviewing other engineers' code and learning from theirs Pairing with senior engineers on the harder problems and levelling up along the way Taking ownership of what you do not yet know, asking good questions and seeking feedback Using AI tools as part of your daily workflow (and helping the team get better at using them!) What you will need to be successful Professional coding experience - You have been actively developing software in a professional setting. We do not mind which language: our stack is mostly Python and you will pick it up quickly Solid fundamentals - Data structures, basic algorithms, object-oriented programming, testing and version control Growth mindset - You treat gaps in your knowledge as opportunities, not weaknesses and go and find what you do not know, rather than waiting to be told Hunger to progress - You want to be a Senior Engineer, you want to get there as fast as you reasonably can and you are up for putting in the work Good communication - You can explain what you are working on, ask for help when you are stuck, and give useful feedback in code reviews You work AI-first - You will use AI daily here, and we mean daily. You do not need to arrive an expert, but you do need to arrive curious, experiment fast, and take ownership of getting good quickly. People who wait to be trained will find this uncomfortable The Zego ways of working 🏡 Teams work better with time to collaborate and space to get things done. We call it Zego Hybrid: some of us are in our office (central London or Halifax) weekly, others monthly or quarterly. It's about finding the balance between face time and focus that produces great work and a healthy life around it. We also make a point of getting everyone in the same room. Teams come together every quarter, and once a year the whole company does, properly. It's a serious investment and consistently one of the best parts of the year. Here is what the last one looked like . Benefits 🎁 💰 Market-competitive salary, benchmarked against your function and reviewed every year. 🏆 Annual performance bonus, linked to company performance and your contribution. 📈 Share options, a real stake in the company and a share in the future you build 🩺 Private medical insurance. 🏖️ Pension, generous holiday, and £1,000 a year to spend on getting to the office or learning something new. 💻 Cutting-edge systems and tools, so you always have what you need to drive your impact. Ready to do the most impactful work of your career? We want to hear from you. Zego, leading the AI evolution in insurance. Equal opportunities 🌈 We're an equal opportunity employer and we value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, or disability status. If you need adjustments during the process, tell us when you apply or email Learn more about how we hire and our commitment to equity in our Candidate FAQ → 🎯 The Role — Software Engineer (Full Stack) We're looking for a Software Engineer to join our team! You'll ship features that directly help the employees of our enterprise clients find the right support at the right time. We're using Claude Code throughout the SDLC, exploring how we evolve our development practices to leverage AI where it meaningfully helps. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to deepen AI-assisted development skills in a team that's investing in them. What you'll do You'll ship features end-to-end. Break initiatives into deliverable slices, design solutions, write the code, and see them through testing, deployment and monitoring in production. You'll own the design for what you deliver. Choose pragmatic approaches that fit our existing architecture, write RFCs where appropriate, and make sensible trade-offs without needing extensive guidance. You'll keep things reliable. Respond to incidents and bugs in your team's domain, improve observability where it's lacking, and uphold the security and performance commitments we make to clients. You'll improve what you touch. Qualifications are not a factor in our decision-making. However, some experience in the following is important for this position: You're ready to get a lot done. You're a backend leaning Engineer, but comfortable moving across the full stack which includes TypeScript, React, GraphQL, Node.js, Python, Golang and SQL. You don't need hands-on experience with every tool; we're more interested in strong software engineering fundamentals and curiosity to learn. You enjoy problem solving from first principles, pick up new context fast, and ship impactful changes to customers regularly. You know what good looks like. You understand what it takes to build reliable products for clients. You build with performance, security and observability at the forefront rather than as follow-ups, and your code is simple, well-tested and easy for others to change. You're comfortable with ambiguity. You're happy tackling problems without a clear definition or obvious solution, and find the leanest viable path forward. You make deliberate trade-offs. You understand the impact of trade-off decisions made today. You choose lean over perfect when it's the right call, and you're explicit about what's being deferred and why. You're comfortable with AI-assisted development practices. You use Claude Code (or similar tools) as a core part of how you develop features - applying curiosity and judgement to know where it accelerates and where it doesn't. Tip for candidates: If you're unsure whether to apply – do. We know great people don't always tick every box. 💚 Life at Unmind We believe wellbeing and performance go hand-in-hand – and we build our environment to support both. Build the technology behind the teams transforming construction At XYZ Reality , we've created the world's first engineering-grade Augmented Reality solution for construction. Our product, The Atom, is used on major projects worldwide to bring designs to life on-site and help teams build more accurately, efficiently and with fewer mistakes. As a Series B business scaling across the UK, US and Europe, we're not only evolving the technology our customers use, we're also investing in the tools and applications that enable our own teams to operate effectively as we grow. We're looking for a Full Stack Engineer to take ownership of the internal applications, dashboards and AI-enabled tools that help power XYZ Reality behind the scenes. The Role This is a great opportunity for a Full Stack Engineer who enjoys building useful products, solving real business problems and owning what they create from idea through to production. As XYZ has grown, teams across the business have increasingly developed applications, dashboards, automations and AI-enabled tools to solve problems and improve how they work. We now need an engineer who can bring technical ownership to this space – taking promising ideas and prototypes and turning them into secure, scalable and maintainable applications. You'll work directly with teams across XYZ to understand what they need, translate those requirements into technical solutions and build applications that people across the business will genuinely use. Because these tools can interact with employee, user and potentially customer data, you'll also ensure they are built and deployed properly, with security, maintainability and appropriate engineering standards considered from the outset. This is a role with plenty of autonomy. You'll own applications end-to-end, from architecture and data model through to UI, deployment, monitoring and ongoing iteration. And when internal priorities allow, you'll have the opportunity to contribute your Full Stack skills to our wider product engineering team and the technology behind XYZ Reality's engineering-grade AR platform. The role is based in London on a hybrid basis, ideally 2–3 days per week in the office, enabling you to work directly with the teams you'll be building for while retaining flexibility. What You'll Be Doing Design, build and maintain internal business applications end-to-end, from data model and architecture through to user interface. Take ownership of existing prototypes, dashboards and tools and evolve them into secure, reliable and maintainable applications. Ship quickly using modern serverless and Backend-as-a-Service platforms such as Vercel, Supabase and Firebase. Build applications using TypeScript/JavaScript, React/Next.js and Node.js. Integrate AI capabilities, including LLM APIs, automation and agents, to improve and streamline business workflows. Work directly with stakeholders across XYZ to understand problems, gather requirements and translate business needs into practical technical solutions. Own the full application lifecycle, including architecture, development, deployment, monitoring, maintenance and iteration. Ensure appropriate security and data protection standards are built into applications handling employee, user or customer information. Implement authentication, SSO and identity management where required. Champion good engineering practices across code quality, testing, security and CI/CD. Build integrations between internal systems, data sources and third-party platforms. Use feedback and usage data to continually improve the applications you build. Evaluate emerging technologies and AI capabilities and identify where they can genuinely improve how XYZ operates. Contribute to our wider product engineering environment when capacity allows. What We're Looking For Demonstrable in-depth professional software engineering experience, ideally within a Full Stack role. Strong proficiency in TypeScript/JavaScript and modern web development. Hands-on experience with React/Next.js and Node.js. Experience building and deploying applications using platforms such as Vercel, Supabase, Firebase or equivalent modern technologies. Experience owning applications beyond the initial build – including deployment, maintenance, monitoring and ongoing improvement. Comfortable integrating AI/LLM services into applications and using modern AI tooling as part of your development workflow. Experience implementing authentication and identity management, such as OAuth/OIDC, SAML or SSO. A good understanding of application security and how to appropriately handle sensitive business and user data. Strong software engineering fundamentals, with an appreciation for maintainable code, testing and good development practices. Comfortable working directly with non-technical stakeholders and turning their requirements into effective technical solutions. Able to work autonomously, prioritise effectively and take ownership of the applications you build. Experience within a startup, scale-up or modern technology environment would be particularly valuable, as would experience with Postgres/SQL, row-level security, data visualisation, reporting or workflow automation. We're looking for a strong Full Stack Engineer with solid fundamentals who is comfortable learning new tools and making pragmatic technology choices based on the problem being solved. Above all, we're looking for someone who enjoys building things that make a difference, an engineer who can take an idea or prototype, understand the problem behind it and turn it into technology the business can rely on. What You Could Be Working On From the outset, you could be working across projects including: Internal business applications and operational tools AI-enabled workflows and automation Business dashboards and reporting Employee and talent applications Data-driven internal tools Integrations between business platforms Secure applications handling employee, user and customer data Prototypes that need to evolve into scalable, production-ready applications As our internal technology needs continue to evolve, so will the problems you have the opportunity to solve. Why Join Us 🚀 Join a Series B business at an exciting stage of international growth 🏠 Hybrid working from our London office 🏝️ 25 days annual leave + public holidays 🩺 Private healthcare with Vitality 🎄 Additional Christmas shutdown days 🪙 Biannual salary reviews 🥳 Summer & Christmas company events 🍣 Free Thursday lunch and after-work gatherings 💰 Employee referral scheme 🚲 Cycle to Work scheme If you're a Full Stack Engineer who enjoys taking ownership, shipping useful technology and using modern tools to solve real-world problems, we'd love to hear from you. Our Mission Aleph Alpha is one of the few companies in Europe doing serious foundation model pre-training. Our customers — in finance, manufacturing, and public administration — need models that understand German, meet European regulatory requirements, and work reliably in high-stakes settings. We're building that in Heidelberg. We are hiring a Senior AI Researcher to join our Pre-training team and to advance the architecture and training of our next generation of foundation models. If you are excited about designing inference-efficient architectures, optimising training recipes that scale reliably, and training models on a large scale cluster (thousands of NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs), we would love to hear from you. Team Culture We foster a culture built on ownership, autonomy, and empowerment. Teams and individual contributors are trusted to take responsibility for their work and drive meaningful impact. We maintain a flat organisational structure with efficient, supportive management that enables quick decision-making, open communication, and a strong sense of shared purpose. We collaborate closely on complex technical problems, working in pairs or using mob programming to resolve challenging issues. About the Role As a Senior AI Researcher in Pre-training (f/m/d) , you will own the critical technical levers that determine the success of our next-generation models: architecture, optimization, stability, and scaling. Working at the high-leverage intersection of research and engineering, you will translate mathematical reasoning and empirical observations into principled training decisions - from small-scale proxy experiments to multi-thousand-GPU runs. We are looking for an expert who can combine rigorous experimental design with high-quality production code, directly influencing model quality, run reliability, and the efficiency of the models we ship. Your Responsibilities Recipe & Architecture Optimization: Own core elements of the training recipe (optimizers, schedules, initialization) and design PyTorch-based architectural improvements to maximize convergence, stability, and training efficiency. Scaling Strategy & Predictability: Develop hyperparameter scaling laws and scale-up methodologies, using small-scale proxy experiments to reliably predict multi-thousand-GPU behavior and de-risk major training decisions. Stability, Diagnostics & Debugging: Investigate complex convergence issues (loss spikes, divergence) and resolve hard-to-reproduce distributed system failures like communication bottlenecks, race conditions, and synchronization errors. System-Model Co-Design: Partner with Compute Performance, Data, Evaluation, and Post-Training teams to align the model lifecycle with hardware constraints, memory bandwidth, and communication topologies. Core Qualifications You are proficient in Python and deeply familiar with PyTorch-based training workflows. You have a strong track record in machine learning research and software engineering, demonstrated through shipped models, impactful open-source contributions, or published research. You have a strong mathematical foundation and are comfortable reasoning formally about optimisation, scaling behaviour, and training dynamics. You deeply understand transformer training dynamics, optimisation, and the behaviour of large distributed training jobs. You can design rigorous experiments, reason clearly from noisy results, and translate empirical observations into robust training decisions. Hands-on experience pre-training large models (e.g., 7B+ parameters) on substantial infrastructure (e.g., 100+ GPU clusters). You apply strong software engineering practices, including writing maintainable, well-tested code and supporting reproducible experimentation workflows. You are able to implement complex model architectures efficiently and reliably and to debug complex issues across model code, training dynamics, and distributed systems. You collaborate effectively within a research and engineering team and communicate clearly about your work across Pre-training and the broader AAR/AA organization. You are able to work in Germany and collaborate regularly on site in Heidelberg as part of the Pre-training team. Preferred Qualifications Large-Scale Training: Hands-on experience training LLMs or multimodal models on large GPU clusters using distributed frameworks (e.g., Megatron-LM, DeepSpeed, torchtitan). Predictive Scaling: Familiarity with scaling laws, hyperparameter transfer, or methods for predicting large-scale training behavior from smaller proxy runs. Stability & Performance: Experience profiling distributed jobs and diagnosing training anomalies like loss spikes, numerical instability, or optimizer pathologies. Advanced Architectures: Exposure to sparse training approaches (e.g., Mixture-of-Experts) and an understanding of their routing and systems trade-offs. Track Record of Impact: Demonstrated research excellence through top-tier publications (NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR), impactful open-source contributions, or significant shipped technical work. Systems Curiosity: Low-level kernel optimization is not required, but we highly value a strong curiosity about the hardware and systems constraints that shape scale. Our Mission Aleph Alpha is one of the few companies in Europe doing serious foundation model pre- and post-training. We're building models that have general-purpose capabilities, and specifically excel at addressing the needs of our customers. We're looking for exceptional Software Engineers to join our model training team. Most of the team is based in Heidelberg . Team Culture At Aleph Alpha, we foster a culture built on ownership, autonomy, and empowerment. Teams and individual contributors are trusted to take responsibility for their work and drive meaningful impact. We maintain a flat organizational structure with efficient, supportive management that enables quick decision-making, open communication, and a strong sense of shared purpose. We believe a strong engineering culture is the key to model training success. We like Extreme Programming and favor trunk-based development. We often mob-program, which keeps us aligned and means we always learn from each other. About the Role As a Senior AI R&D Engineer in Model Training (f/m/d), you will join our model training team in Heidelberg or Berlin. Most of the team is based in Heidelberg. The model training team is training models, but more importantly in order to do so building and improving our model training pipeline. You will work across our full stack. Some weeks you might be optimizing how training loads are scheduled on our cluster and making the pipeline more robust and performant so we can iterate faster. Other weeks, you will be enabling large-scale code execution for reinforcement learning. And at other times, you might dig deep into our evaluation codebase to lift inference throughput on evals. No two days are the same. Things move fast, and your ability to focus and prioritize is what lets you unblock the team day-to-day while designing the high-quality tooling and infrastructure that speeds us up long-term. We're still building out our training pipeline and infrastructure. Some pieces exist, some do not, and you will have real influence on what gets built and how. Your work directly shapes how quickly we can experiment and improve our models. Identifying issues and taking initiative is what drives our day-to-day work. Working mode, design decisions, priorities are all done in your team together with your team mates. The strongest teams often use highly collaborative techniques, like mob or pair programming. Due to the highly collaborative nature of our work you are expected to be on-site at least two days a week. If you are in Berlin, you should expect to travel around every second month for a few days to Heidelberg. We are specifically looking to strengthen the Software Engineering in the teams which are research heavy. Major points include improving the maintainability of our code through tests and design & architecture changes. Requirements At its core, you need to be able to dive into a codebase, change the behavior as necessary, and after the change the code should be better tested and easier to understand than before. As such we look for candidates for an understanding of how to design for low coupling and high cohesion paired with the ability to incrementally refactor. Experience with the following technologies is likely to be helpful: Test Driven Development (TDD) Trunk based development Continuous integration Domain Driven Design Nice-to-haves Most of our code is in Python, there is also the occasional Rust codebase. Large parts of our training pipeline are built on top of Kubernetes. We do not hire for skills in a particular technology or language, but rather ability to learn and mindset, yet experience with these technologies is a plus. What we offer Become part of an AI revolution! 30 days of paid vacation Access to a variety of fitness & wellness offerings via Wellhub Mental health support through nilo.health Substantially subsidized company pension plan for your future security Subsidized Germany-wide transportation ticket Budget for additional technical equipment Flexible working hours for better work-life balance and hybrid working model JobRad® Bike Lease Find more English Speaking Jobs in Germany on Arbeitnow
