Senior Software Engineer, Streaming Infrastructure
InternshipFully RemoteSenior$196,000 - $196,000 / Year
gomysqlmachine learningkafkaarchitecturerecruiting

Airbnb was born in 2007 when two hosts welcomed three guests to their San Francisco home, and has since grown to over 5 million hosts who have welcomed over 2 billion guest arrivals in almost every country across the globe. Every day, hosts offer unique stays and experiences that make it possible for guests to connect with communities in a more authentic way. Airbnb's Data Infrastructure organization builds the systems that store, move, and transform data across the company. Our Data Movement & Transformation (DMT) group is building a single, unified platform for moving data between Airbnb's storage systems, replacing dozens of one-off tools with one reliable, well-supported way to get data where it needs to go. This platform is the foundation for Data as a Service, a top-level infrastructure initiative at Airbnb. The Community You Will Join: The Ingestion team is the front door to DMT. We build and operate two managed, multi-tenant platforms that move data out of Airbnb's online databases for offline processing: SpinalTap: near real-time change data capture (CDC) streaming to Kafka for every Aurora and UDS table at Airbnb. DBExports: periodic full-table snapshots and mutation exports. Teams across Airbnb depend on these systems, including payments, fraud detection, financial reporting, search, messaging, notifications, and machine learning. Reliability, performance, and scale are the product. You'll work closely with DMT's other teams, which own real-time streaming infrastructure, pipeline orchestration, and schema management, and you'll have the chance to work across the broader platform The Difference You Will Make: Be hands-on (code, design, test) and work with partner teams, internal customers, and leadership to deliver multi-month projects on time. Design, build, and operate large-scale CDC and batch export systems that run across every online database at Airbnb. Help shape the architecture of DMT's unified data movement platform while it's being built. Improve the reliability, performance, and efficiency of systems that critical business functions depend on. Make it easier for engineers at Airbnb to get their data into offline systems without needing to be database or pipeline experts. Take part in on-call and raise the operational bar for a platform that other teams build on. Your Expertise: 5+ years of experience building and operating large-scale backend distributed systems, such as data ingestion, streaming, CDC, storage, or data platforms. Hands-on experience with streaming systems like Kafka, and with how databases capture and publish changes (binlogs, Debezium, or similar). Ability to own and go deep in a complex codebase. Experience maintaining, analyzing, and debugging production systems at scale. Clean, readable, testable, and maintainable code. Strong collaboration and communication skills in a remote-working environment. Strong ownership and a track record of delivering on time. Nice to Have: Experience building managed or multi-tenant platforms used by other engineering teams. Familiarity with MySQL/Aurora, schema evolution, or large-scale batch data processing. Our Commitment To Inclusion & Belonging: Airbnb is committed to working with the broadest talent pool possible. We believe diverse ideas foster innovation and engagement, and allow us to attract creatively-led people, and to develop the best products, services and solutions. All qualified individuals are encouraged to apply. We strive to also provide a disability inclusive application and interview process. If you are a candidate with a disability and require reasonable accommodation in order to submit an application, please contact us at: reasonableaccommodations@airbnb.com . Please include your full name, the role you're applying for and the accommodation necessary to assist you with the recruiting process.  We ask that you only reach out to us if you are a candidate whose disability prevents you from being able to complete our online application. Equal Employment Opportunity : Airbnb values diversity & belonging and is proud to be an Equal Employment Opportunity employer. All individuals seeking employment at Airbnb are considered without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, age, gender, sex, marital status, ancestry, physical or mental disability, veteran status, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, or any other legally protected characteristic. How We'll Take Care of You: Our job titles may span more than one career level. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.   Pay Range $196,000 — $230,000 USD   Reasonable Accommodations: We are committed to providing reasonable accommodations throughout the recruitment process for applicants with disabilities. If you need assistance, or an accommodation, please let your recruiter know once you are contacted about a role. A Note on Recruiting Scams: Scammers sometimes pose as Airbnb recruiters to get money or personal information from candidates. A few things that will always be true for Airbnb's hiring process: our open roles are posted on Airbnb's Career's Page at careers.airbnb.com, and our recruiters correspond only from @ airbnb.com or @ ext.airbnb.com email addresses. Our recruiters will never ask for your Social Security number, bank account details, passport, or payment app information while you are interviewing.  We'll also never ask you to pay a fee, send money, deposit or cash a check, or purchase work-related equipment (such as a company laptop) during the interview process. We encourage candidates to remain vigilant of these recruiting scams and not share sensitive information if you do not believe an individual is actually affiliated with Airbnb.

What you will do as a Customer Engineer The Customer Engineer (CE) is the core driver of our technical go-to-market strategy: a trusted technical advisor and primary architect of the customer journey. You will bridge the gap between technical strategy and business value—guiding enterprise clients from initial pre-sales technical validation through onboarding, deployment architecture, and full lifecycle expansion. Sitting within the GTM organization and reporting to a Customer Engineering Leader, you will not hand off your customers once an initial agreement is reached. Instead, you will operate as a quota-carrying technologist, leveraging AI-augmented workflows to eliminate administrative toil so you can focus on high-value architectural design and driving measurable business outcomes across the entire customer journey. Key Responsibilities Technical Validation: Partner closely with Account Executives to lead technical deep-dive discovery, capture business requirements, and map complex customer infrastructure - DNS, CDN, Zero Trust, Network Security, Workers - to fit-for-purpose Cloudflare architectures and bespoke solutions. . Define, scope, success criteria, and technical evaluations plans for Proof of Concepts (PoCs) and Technical Validations. Deliver tailored technical presentations, architectural diagrams, and demonstrations that show how Cloudflare solves specific performance, security, and reliability challenges. Proactively address complex technical objections, security compliance questions, and edge-case architectural requirements during the sales cycle. Take accountability for a suitable solution deployment strategy (Customer, Partner or Cloudflare Professional services) being an integral part of all proposals. Customer Adoption & Value Realization: Provide oversight to technical onboarding and implementation, but not execute the implementation, serving as the primary executive and engineering contact for the customer. Design structured migration and onboarding blueprints tailored to the customer's environment (e.g. DNS migrations, Zero Trust rollouts, WAF tuning guidance), and act as the lead consultant for customer engineering teams, walking them step-by-step through configuration best practices.  Partner with Account Executives to own discovery, demos, onboarding, technical health, risk, and expansion strategy. Proactively monitor customer health scores and telemetry to ensure rapid time-to-value, resolve integration bottlenecks, and reduce deployment risk. Commercial Accountability & Expansion: Carry a variable quota tied directly to new business acquisition and/or ongoing account growth. Be commercially accountable for ensuring deep platform adoption, retaining revenue, and identifying strategic cross-sell and up-sell opportunities based on product usage data. Lead technical Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs) to translate platform capabilities into return on investment for C-level executives. Trusted Advisory: Act as a trusted technical advisor throughout the entire customer lifecycle, maintaining a continuous, deep relationship with key stakeholders from initial onboarding through maturity, renewal, and expansion. Provide thought partnership on architecture, AI control layers, security posture, and deployment confidence. Identify potential deployment risks or integration bottlenecks early, and provide remediation strategies to de-risk customer outcomes.  AI Orchestration & Workflow Automation: Leverage AI agents, Large Language Models (LLMs), and internal platforms to automate routine tasks such as RFP/Security Questionnaire responses, sandbox provisioning, basic telemetry monitoring, and internal/external documentation, reclaiming your time for strategic customer advisory. Education & Enablement: Partner closely with the Enablement Team to design, build, and govern technical resources. Define, document, and educate both internal teams and customers on deliverables such as Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), architectural best practices, and technical guides to continuously raise the technical baseline across the organization. Minimum Qualifications Experience: Experience in a customer-facing technical role, such as Solutions Engineering, Customer Engineering, Professional Services,  Sales Engineering, Technical Account Management, or as a Forward Deployed Engineer (years of experience required will vary based on Associate, Senior, Staff, or Principal leveling). Architectural Mindset: Ability to white-board, design, and articulate complex enterprise network and security architectures clearly. Consultative & Advisory Skills: Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate deeply technical concepts into business outcomes for both hands-on engineers and C-level executives. Commercial Mindset: Proven track record of operating in a quota-carrying or revenue-aligned environment, with a strong understanding of SaaS metrics, business value translation, and enterprise sales cycles. Communication: Exceptional presentation and stakeholder management skills, capable of bridging the gap between deep technical implementation details and high-level C-suite business strategy. Technical Breadth: We do not expect every candidate to be an expert in every domain. Qualified candidates will demonstrate depth in at least four of the technical areas below: Internet fundamentals: Deep understanding of how the Internet works, including OSI Model layers 1–7, BGP, GRE, TCP/UDP, DNS (authoritative and recursive), HTTP(S), and SSL/TLS. Security: Expertise in the security of Internet properties, including WAF, Bot Management, Firewalls, Rate Limiting, (M)TLS, Zero Trust, and SASE concepts. Performance: Expertise in the performance of Internet properties, including speed, latency, caching, video streaming, HTTP/2, and TLS 1.3. AI Proficiency: Familiarity with prompt engineering, AI-assisted scripting and log analysis, LLM utilization, and workflow automation to augment everyday CE workflows. Coding/Scripting: Proficiency in Python, JavaScript, Bash, Lua, Go, or similar languages to write custom integration scripts, API connectors, and edge computing functions. Developer Platform Fluency: Experience designing, building, deploying or scaling applications using RESTful/GraphQL APIs, SDKs, webhooks, and developer tooling in cloud-native environments. Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Pulumi), CI/CD pipelines, and observability for developer-led deployments. Strongly Preferred Qualifications (The "Good-to-Haves") Technical Enablement: Track record of creating and delivering technical enablement - workshops, code samples, documentation, or developer onboarding - that accelerates customer adoption of complex platforms.  Applied AI Knowledge: Experience with LLM orchestration, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architectures, and model-access controls. Regulatory Knowledge: Understanding of regulatory requirements such as PCI DSS, HIPAA, and SOC 2. Hyperscaler / Digital Native Background: Talent coming out of hyperscalers, digital natives, distributed systems environments, or startups is strongly valued for its deeper cloud fluency and advanced architecture depth. Education Undergraduate or graduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.  Travel This role may require travel up to 20–50% to attend customer meetings, conferences, industry events, and in-person team collaboration. Compensation This role features a competitive base salary and a variable compensation structure tied directly to the successful execution of full-lifecycle commercial targets, including new business acquisition, ongoing adoption milestones, and overall account expansion. Compensation may be adjusted depending on work location.  For New York City based hires: Estimated annual salary of $204,000.00 - $321,000.00 Equity This role is eligible to participate in Cloudflare's equity plan. The question is whether you see it before everyone else does. Sparta is building the data platform that fuel oil and feedstocks traders, analysts and commercial teams use to make faster, better decisions. We cover forward curves, price assessments, market intelligence and trade flows across the global energy complex, and Fuel Oil is one of our most technical verticals. We're looking for someone to own it. This role is an opportunity to own a vertical, build your profile, and be genuinely central to the direction of the business. We want someone who knows heavy product markets deeply and who is not afraid to build new things. Our Fuel Oil vertical already runs on market-leading tools and you will take them even further. The role This isn't an analyst position or a support role. It's the chance to become Sparta's primary Fuel Oil voice, internally and externally, and to shape what we build for the vertical. You'll sit at the intersection of commercial, product, and market expertise. You'll be the internal and external authority on Fuel Oil: responsible for the health, growth, and strategic development of the vertical, while acting as a key face to clients on complex and technical engagements. You'll need to be equally comfortable deep in the market microstructure of Fuel Oil — cash differentials, arbitrage dynamics, blend economics, price relationships across bunkering, power generation and feedstocks — as you are presenting to senior client stakeholders, shaping the product roadmap, being the market authority on the most opaque part of the oil barrel, and harnessing the power of AI to turn your knowledge into the next generation of advanced tools for fuel oil trading. The role reports to our Head of Commodities. What you'll do Fuel Oil vertical ownership and strategy (~35% of role) Own the Fuel Oil vertical end to end: its commercial performance, data integrity and strategic direction Serve as the internal advocate for fuel oil and feedstocks across product, sales, engineering and research teams Define and prioritise the Fuel Oil product roadmap with the product and technology teams Act as the primary subject matter expert for all Fuel Oil decisions across the business Building tools, models and AI agents (~25% of role) Design and build Sparta's next generation of heavy products analytical tools and pricing models Own the fuel oil knowledge base behind our AI products: write the domain rules, test answers against desk judgement and catch errors before clients do Prototype quickly with AI coding tools, then work with engineering to ship the ideas that work Client interactions and technical demos (~15% of role) Lead complex, discovery-focused and technical client conversations and demos Support sales and account management on senior or strategically important Fuel Oil and Feedstocks opportunities Represent Sparta at industry events, conferences and client visits as a Fuel Oil and Feedstocks expert Market commentary and content (~15% of role) Take editorial ownership of Fuel Oil market commentary and content Define the voice and analytical framework for Fuel Oil commentary across client-facing and marketing channels Work with analysts and contributors to keep output accurate, well argued and commercially relevant Process and data quality (~10% of role) Oversee the operational processes behind the vertical: cash differential modelling and uploads, component premiums and landed diffs, new arbitrage routes and price points, blend hub coverage, and ongoing data quality Build scalable processes and delegate or automate routine tasks where it makes sense What we're looking for Required Deep Fuel Oil & Feedstocks market expertise — strong working knowledge of fuel oil benchmarks, differentials, blending economics, arbitrage mechanics, refinery economics, and global heavy products flows. Proven experience in a commodity-facing role within energy trading, data/analytics, financial services, or a closely related field Hands-on building experience: working knowledge of Python and SQL (or equivalent) and a track record of tools or models other people actually use Practical experience with AI tools such as LLMs, coding assistants or agents, and good judgement about where they get the market wrong Ability to turn market complexity into clear product requirements, specifications engineers can build from, and client value propositions Confident and credible in client-facing settings, including technical discovery calls and senior stakeholder presentations Strong written and verbal communication, with experience producing or overseeing market commentary Comfortable working across sales, product, technology and research teams Desirable Experience with pricing, data, or analytics platforms in the energy space Familiarity with fuel oil data operations: cash differentials, landed diffs and price curve maintenance Experience shipping work to production alongside an engineering team (version control, code review) Existing network within the Fuel Oil & Feedstocks trading community What success looks like In your first six months, you will have: Taken full ownership of the Fuel Oil vertical and its operational processes Established yourself as the go-to internal and external authority on Fuel Oil and Feedstocks Shipped at least one new tool, model or AI capability that clients or internal teams use Measurably improved the quality of our AI products' fuel oil answers, checked against desk review Built strong working relationships with the content team and begun shaping commentary output Led technical client engagements independently Why Join Sparta? At Sparta, our culture is built on innovation, collaboration, and high performance. We thrive in a fast-paced environment where initiative is celebrated, challenges are embraced, and impact is rewarded. • Equity in a high-growth, VC-backed company • $42M in Series B funding — strong market traction and investment • Early-stage growth — build your career as we scale • Market-leading product — we are redefining commodity trading intelligence • Top-tier tools and technology to support your success What's the Culture Like at Sparta? At Sparta, our culture isn't just a set of values on a wall — it's how we work. We embrace a dynamic environment where initiative is celebrated, challenges are met head-on, and innovation thrives. You'll collaborate with people who are passionate about our mission and committed to building outstanding products and outcomes for our customers. The Sparta Code Understanding is non-negotiable Understanding leads to believing. Believing leads to winning. The 'why' is the difference between compliance and conviction. Before we execute, we ask: why does this matter, who does it serve, what changes if we win? People who understand the mission don't need to be managed. Ask for forgiveness, not for permission Most decisions are reversible. Most fears are not. 90% of decisions are reversible. Make them, ship, iterate. Perfection is the enemy of efficiency. Bias for action means moving before you have all the answers, but it isn't recklessness. The rule: tell the rest of us what you did, what changed, what you learned. Fall in love with the problem The mission wins. Your idea doesn't have to. Solutions flatter our ego. They feel like progress. But solutions without problems are opinions, and opinions don't move customers, markets, or teammates. The goal is to find what's true, not to win the room. If your idea gets killed because a better one comes along, that's the system working. It's your fault. Lucky you. If it's on you, it's in your control. True ownership sounds harsh until you feel how liberating it is. If every problem is yours, you stop spending energy on who to blame and start spending it on how to fix it. Effective leaders default to 'it's on me'. Not out of guilt, but out of agency. Conflict is a gift Honesty is an expression of care. Withholding feedback is choosing comfort over growth, yours and your colleague's. Staying silent deprives others of the chance to learn. We challenge openly and with positive intent. Done with care, this builds trust. Done with ego, it destroys it. Sparta Commodities is proud to be an equal opportunity employer and promotes diversity within its workforce. We are determined that no-one will ever receive less favourable treatment on the grounds of gender, age, disability, religion, belief, sexual orientation, marital status, race, veteran status or any basis covered by appropriate law. Growth Manager
MelotechBerlin, Germany2 days ago
Full TimeOn-siteMid
pythongosqldata sciencetiktokonboarding

Who we are Melotech is revolutionizing media and entertainment. We create art through technology for humans to enjoy. In just 24 months, our work has been heard, watched and loved for over 4 billion minutes worldwide. Founded by entrepreneur and investor Soheil Mirpour, we are backed by top VCs Cherry Ventures, Speedinvest and GFC, alongside world-class angels from firms such as Spotify, Blackstone and KKR. What you will do Melotech is scaling fast. As Growth Manager, you own our paid growth end to end: the budget, the channels, the creative testing and the numbers behind them. You decide where the budget goes, and you work directly with our founders, product and data team. Your first job is to bring structure to our paid social account: decide what to consolidate and what to split, separate testing from scaling, and segment by geography, age and placement so every number means something. We will walk you through exactly what we are building as you go through the process. On a typical day, your tasks may include: Account structure: deciding what to consolidate and what to split, keeping testing and scaling apart, and segmenting ad sets by geography, age and placement Campaign operations: running the campaigns day to day on Meta, TikTok and Snapchat, including budgets, pacing and the targets behind them Creative pipeline: building a system that keeps new creatives flowing every week, with clear rules for what wins and what gets killed, and briefs that turn last week's numbers into next week's ads Creative partners: directing editors, video producers, UGC creators and agencies to the volume and quality the account needs Budget allocation: moving budget across campaigns on data, weighing upside against risk Measurement: knowing which metric answers which question, for example what CPM tells you that CPC does not, and catching a shift in cost the day it happens Tooling: building the reports, scripts and automations you need, with the ad platform APIs and AI tools as your daily coworkers Who you are We're looking for a hands-on paid operator, or a sharp growth generalist who has done the buying. Either way, you have run real budgets yourself, not through a team or an agency, and you can show the numbers. Typically, your profile will look like this: Experience: 2 to 7 years of hands-on paid buying, ideally in a startup or small team where you set things up yourself Paid social channel ownership: you have owned Meta, TikTok or Snapchat end to end, ideally more than one of them and more than once, and you have run accounts at real volume, so you can explain how you structured a large account without losing control of it Creative testing at scale: you test on a schedule with kill rules, direct creative partners instead of making the ads, and notice when a hook or format is burning out; ideally you bring a network of trusted editors, creators and agencies Budget decisions: you are comfortable allocating a budget across many tests and making structured decisions under uncertainty Measurement: you check what platforms report against your own data, you have run holdout or lift tests, and you know which metric answers which question, for example what CPM tells you that CPC does not Data and tooling: you work in SQL or Python, have used the ad platform APIs, and build your own reporting and automations; a data science background is a plus Pace: you thrive in a fast-paced and performance-oriented environment A big plus: you stay close to what works in paid social right now, and you're into music, media, gaming or social What makes this exciting You own a lever the whole company feels, and your work shows up directly in how fast we can grow. You're not a cog in the machine but the captain of your own ship, rewarded for performance and respected for leadership. Flat hierarchies mean that your voice matters, your ideas get implemented, and your impact is immediate. We pay competitive salaries and make you an owner of the business with equity. We work remotely to give you complete freedom over your life, while meeting regularly around the world for global offsites where we strategize, bond, and push boundaries together. What the process will look like We hire on a rolling basis. Earliest starting date is always ASAP. Once you begin our process, you can progress from start to offer within a week, depending on how quickly you can move through each stage: Initial interview: 30-minute introductory call, getting to know you Case interview: 90-minute case discussion, present and debate your skills Founder interview: 90-minute interview with our CEO, going deep on all topics Offer, contract signing and onboarding Note: As we are still in stealth, you will learn more about Melotech as you progress through the stages. By the end of the Founder interview, you will have a full grasp of our business and the details of your role. Find Jobs in Germany on Arbeitnow
