Overview of role Join our engineering team to build real-time AI Native workflows, tooling, and interfaces that will reshape how developers create and maintain software. As a Software Engineer, you'll be versatile and independent, excited to work with cutting-edge AI tools to build great products. Senior AI Engineer
51DRemote - UK (Fully Remote)25 days ago
Full TimeFully RemoteSenior
pythonarchitecture

The role You'll be the senior engineer on our high value and complex builds, embedded inside client teams from week one. You own the architecture for agentic systems, data pipelines and integrations, ship them to production, and raise the standards of the engineering team around you. Projects typically start as a plan, followed by a proof of concept, expand into a beta, and are then shipped to production. You'll be involved across the full arc. Location: Remote (UK), with optional access to a number of London-based co-working spaces. What you'll do Take a build end to end: architecture, implementation, deployment and handover. Design production AI systems, agents, retrieval, evaluation and the data plumbing underneath them. Work alongside client engineering teams, and directly with Nick and Mark, with no layer in between. Mentor and support our AI and graduate engineers, sharing what you know as the team grows. What we look for Around 5+ years shipping production software, with real ownership of systems in the wild. Strong Python plus at least one typed language, and sound judgement on when to reach for which. Hands-on with LLMs and agents, plus cloud, data pipelines and good testing discipline. Comfortable client-facing, communicating clearly and understanding what clients need. An appetite for working in an inclusive team, alongside people whose backgrounds and lived experiences differ from your own. Who we are Fifty One Degrees is a UK AI and data consultancy, founded in 2023 by Nick and Mark who both built and sold their own companies. Prior to 51D, Nick Harding (CEO) founded and scaled the fintech Fluro to four million credit applications a year. Mark Somers (CPO) built 4most into the UK's largest independent credit risk consultancy. We embed practitioners in client teams and build the best solution that will drive for maximum client value. Strategy, governance and training are also key, but we stay and build rather than hand over a document and leave. We're a fast-growing startup and the client list is highly varied with clients across financial services, retail, property and PR (to name a few). This role is for a client-facing consultant that works as a software engineer. Coding ability is non-negotiable, but you'll spend time in front of clients as well as in an editor. A real part of what we do is AI enablement and strategy: helping client teams adopt AI tooling, redesigning how they work around it, and building the systems that make it stick. This means configuring and integrating as well as writing code from scratch. If you are looking for a role that's only heads-down engineering, this isn't it. If you want to see how AI actually lands inside a business and unlocks value, this is the role for you. How we work Small teams, real ownership, no layer of middle management between you and the client or the founders. You're trusted with real work from week one, combined with the right level of support. We pair, we share what we learn, and we're honest about what's working and what isn't. Our process Our typical hiring process usually consists of the following stages: Initial screening call Competency-based interview Technical assessment Note that we may add additional assessment stages if required. Additional note A career break or a non-linear route into engineering isn't a blocker here. We hire on what you can do now, not the shape of your CV, and we offer structured ramp-up and mentoring for anyone returning after time out. Senior Software Engineer Scope automates the data collection that's slowing down the physical world. Standards are vital for the safety of our infrastructure. Spending hours manually documenting them is not. Dave is an inspector. Today he's climbing through one of Europe's biggest chemical plants, looking for the corrosion that could shut the whole site down, with a notebook and pen in hand. Tomorrow, he'll spend even longer on the part of the job he hates: turning those scribbles into a report. We're building the best AI-native data collection layer for the 2 billion field workers like Dave. Scope radically simplifies how inspectors collect data in the field, make decisions, and produce reports. Along the way, we're building the world's largest dataset on the condition of the built world and the decisions experts make about it. It's a $2T market and we're just getting started, with ambitions. We have grown revenue 5x in the last year and on track to reach 10M ARR in 2026 . We work with 6 of the top 10 companies in the space. Our customers inspect facilities and products for companies including AstraZeneca and SpaceX . We've assembled a best-in-class team: acquired and future founders, people from institutions like Imperial, Carnegie Mellon and Oxford, and from firms like Goldman Sachs, Flexport and Amazon. Since launching from Entrepreneurs First in 2024, we've raised an oversubscribed $20m round led by Index Ventures , the firm behind Figma, Revolut and Wiz, with over 100 unicorns backed to date. About the role: You'll join a talented, flat structured engineering team where we are looking for forward deployed or product focused engineers where you will be at the front line of our key accounts. You will be running the rollout, building tools tailored for the client and own problems end to end . You will not be siloed so will work across the product, business, clients and won't be handed tickets and asked to stay in your lane. You'll talk to users, decide what matters, design the solution, ship it, and see whether it worked. We work in person five days a week from our sunny office in Farringdon. We believe being together helps us move faster and solve problems more effectively and it's also more fun! We're looking for people who want to help invent what inspection software should look like in a post AI world . What you'll do: Build the systems that takes voice notes, photos, videos and proactively finishes reports Engineer how we feed context to AI models: how to store, fetch and select standards, reports, media, user intention Evolve our workflow builder into self evolving software Design the architecture behind the product: how unstructured data flows through the system, how AI is integrated, how offline and online behaviour stay seamless, and how we keep the product simple as it becomes more powerful. Who you are: We believe great teams are made up of highly agentic managers of one. People who care more about shipping results than collecting badges. You should apply if you're deeply technical and enjoy building applications You have strong technical skills, ideally mobile applications or client focused. You have 5+ years of experience and have built up enough scar tissue to know which technical decisions matter. Expo / React Native experience a big plus Interview process: An initial call. A collaborative technical exercise with an engineer. An Interview with a cofounder - Jonny (CEO) or Jakob (CTO). 🍊Our mission Great science regularly stalls in the clinic, not because the science is wrong, but because the company behind it lacks the capital, infrastructure, or focus to take it all the way through. Today's clinical-stage biopharma model is broken, and as a result promising treatments never reach patients. Our mission is to fix this: we're building the next generation of biopharma by in-licensing clinical-stage therapeutic assets and developing them through Lindus Health's integrated, technology-first clinical trial infrastructure. We're a new initiative, but we're building on a proven foundation - the same infrastructure that has delivered 82% of Lindus Health's sponsor trials on or ahead of timeline, across 40+ completed trials across the US and Europe. We're in-licensing 5-7 clinical-stage, typically Phase-2-ready assets, funded directly from Lindus Health's balance sheet. We're targeting deal close on our first assets through 2026, with first trials launching in H1 2027. 🍊About the role We are looking for a software engineer to help build the platform powering the next generation of clinical trials. Join our fast-moving team and help us scale the product to manage complex trials and bring new treatments to patients faster! This is an onsite role in London with a flexible (hybrid) office arrangement.
