Stord is backed by top-tier investors including Kleiner Perkins, Franklin Templeton, Founders Fund, Strike Capital, Baillie Gifford, and Salesforce Ventures. Engineering at Stord Stord's software suite has grown fast over the last year, and we're just getting started. With a powerful fulfillment network, incredible reach, and top-tier brands, we have a real opportunity to transform a trillion-dollar market. We're hiring software engineers at every level across all of our product areas: Commerce, where we own the shopper's experience from checkout through delivery; our parcel network (TMS); fulfillment and warehouse systems (WMS); order management (OMS); Stord Labs, where we're working on automation and the future of AI; and the platform and AI infrastructure the rest of engineering builds on. That covers everything from shopper-facing experiences and customer-facing SaaS to the operational systems that move real inventory through real warehouses and onto real trucks. What makes building software here different is what sits underneath it. Most software companies only see the screen. Our software runs on top of the network that actually picks, packs, and ships the orders, so we get to build with real operational data and see the impact of what we ship in the physical world. This posting isn't tied to a single team or level. Commerce and supply chain experience are a big plus, but what matters most to us is how you work: how much you own, how you handle ambiguity, and how well you build in an AI-accelerated environment. As you go through the interview process, we'll align you with the team and level that best fit your skills and interests, rather than locking you into a set path on day one. How We Build We build with agents. Our engineers use AI coding agents to take work from requirements through planning, coding, testing, and deployment, and they own the result. Owning your work doesn't mean doing it alone. You'll work closely with product managers, designers, and the other engineers on your team, and partner with other teams whenever the work crosses boundaries. We also believe in product-centered engineering. Engineers here don't just build what they're told; they shape where the product goes. You'll influence specs, push back on the wrong solution, and spot opportunities the roadmap hasn't caught yet. We're looking for engineers with a strong sense of ownership, who care deeply about the customer, and who want real influence over what we build. What You'll Own Take features from idea to production with your team, using AI coding agents to plan, build, test, and deploy Give agents the right context, direct their work, and review their output critically. You're accountable for the quality of what ships, not the model Own what you ship after launch: monitor it, fix it, and keep improving it Shape specs with Product and Design, bringing a technical view on feasibility and trade-offs Partner with engineers on other teams to design integrations, align on shared patterns, and deliver work that spans more than one system Design and maintain scalable, reliable, and secure systems that stay simple and maintainable as they grow Get close enough to what your software supports (a checkout flow, a carrier integration, a warehouse floor) to know where it breaks before a customer tells you Raise the bar for the engineers around you through code reviews, design reviews, and sharing the agentic workflows that make the team faster How Scope Grows With Level Software Engineer: You own well-defined features end to end and grow quickly toward owning larger parts of a product Senior Software Engineer: You own significant features and systems from idea to production, influence your team's technical direction, and mentor other engineers Staff Software Engineer: You're the technical lead for a team or area. You own the architecture, lead initiatives that span teams, set the standard for how the team builds with agents, and grow senior engineers into stronger technical decision-makers What You'll Need 3 to 10+ years of software engineering experience, with a track record of shipping and running production software Hands-on experience building software with agentic workflows: using AI coding agents (Claude Code, Cursor, or similar) to take work from requirements through planning, coding, testing, and deployment A solid grasp of agentic development basics: giving agents good context, breaking work into plans, and verifying output instead of trusting it Strong engineering fundamentals: system design, data modeling, APIs, testing, and debugging in production The ability to work confidently in our core languages with agents. Our product teams build mostly in TypeScript (Node.js and React) and Elixir/Phoenix. If your background is in another language, we're open to it Ownership and follow-through: you take pride in what you ship and see it from design to production Clear communication with engineers, product managers, operators, and stakeholders about technical decisions and trade-offs Comfort with ambiguity: you can take a fuzzy problem and turn it into shipped software without waiting for every detail to be defined Nice-to-Haves Commerce or supply chain experience: checkout, payments, order management, notifications, returns, or warehouse and transportation systems (WMS, TMS, OMS) Production experience with TypeScript, Node.js, and React, or with Elixir/Phoenix Experience building and shipping LLM-powered features in production: prompt design, tool/function calling, context management, and evaluation Experience building chat agents or assistants integrated with MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers Experience with GCP, PostgreSQL, and event streaming (Kafka, Redpanda, or similar) Experience at a product-led company (consumer or B2B SaaS, marketplace, fintech, etc.) Experience building 0-to-1 products, or rebuilding or migrating a legacy platform Contributions to open-source projects What Success Looks Like (First 90 Days) You've shipped meaningful work to production and owned it from idea through deployment Your team sees you as someone who makes things happen, not someone who waits for a ticket You understand the product and operation behind your area well enough to have an opinion on where it breaks You're working confidently with agents in our codebase and sharing what works with the rest of the team

Data Engineer (m/f/d)
SuperchatBerlin, Berlin37 days ago
Full TimeOn-siteMid
pythonawsterraformgithub actionssqlsnowflake+16

At Superchat, we're rebuilding how businesses talk to their customers. The phone call, the contact form, the support ticket: all of it is being replaced by messaging and AI. We're building the platform that runs underneath. Founded in 2020, Superchat has become the platform of choice for 10,000+ businesses worldwide , from globally recognized brands like Allianz, Auto1, Enpal, Danone, and GASAG to the small businesses, dental practices, and one-person startups that need to look bigger than they are. Today, millions of messages flow through Superchat every single day . We started as a unified inbox: one place for every channel a customer might pick, WhatsApp, email, SMS, Instagram. Then ChatGPT happened, and the second chapter began: AI agents that respond across chat, email, and voice at the quality of the best human teams. We're 100 people , profitable , and have raised €18M in funding (last round 4.5 years ago, we've been growing on our own money since). Headquartered in Berlin. We're hiring our first Data Engineer to own Superchat's data platform end to end, from raw product and business data to the gold tables the whole company reports on. Our engineers have already built the foundations, including a warehouse, pipelines, dbt and reverse ETL. Now we need someone to make the platform trustworthy at scale, with testing, monitoring, clear modelling layers and customer history over time. You'll set the standards for how data is modelled and documented, and work with a Business Analyst to build the gold tables that Finance, Sales, Marketing and Product rely on. Who We Want An experienced Data Engineer. You bring 3+ years of building and running data pipelines in production, ideally at a SaaS company. You've owned a data platform, or a large part of one, and you're comfortable making the architecture calls yourself. Strong in SQL and dbt. You write and review complex SQL with ease. You've built dbt projects with layered models, tests, documentation. At home in the Cloud. You have worked with Data Warehouses in the Cloud, ideally AWS Redshift. BigQuery or Snowflake is also fine. Reliability-minded. You think in tests, freshness checks, idempotent loads and backfills. You want to know the data is wrong before a stakeholder tells you. Curious about the business. You want to know what MRR, churn or an "active workspace" really mean, and you model data so those definitions hold everywhere they're used. Experience with subscription billing or product usage data is a plus. Who We Don't Want Pure dashboard builder. You'd rather spend your days building dashboards and answering ad-hoc questions. That's our Business Analyst's job; yours is to build what they work from. Pure pipeline plumber. You move data from A to B but don't care what it means. Gold tables are only as good as the business understanding behind them. Over-engineer. You want Kafka, Spark and a lakehouse for data that fits comfortably in Redshift. We need pragmatic solutions that fit a 100-person company and can grow with it. Remote-only operator. You prefer fully remote work and don't want to build relationships in person. The data platform sits between many teams, and that works best with regular time together in our Berlin office. Our Data Stack Warehouse: AWS Redshift Ingestion: Airbyte, custom Python Transformation: dbt Orchestration: Dagster Reverse ETL: Hightouch BI: Metabase Infrastructure & CI: AWS, Terraform, GitHub Actions Your Day To Day Own ingestion from our product database, Chargebee, HubSpot, Pipedrive, Intercom, Amplitude and other tools, using Airbyte where it works and your own Python where it doesn't. Design and build the dbt models that take raw data to gold tables, with clear layers, naming and documentation that the Business Analyst and the rest of the company can rely on. Run orchestration in Dagster: schedules, dependencies, freshness checks and alerting, so a stalled sync gets noticed within hours. Build data quality in: dbt tests, source checks and CI on every pull request. Capture history where our source systems only keep the current state, so a question like "which plan was this customer on last March?" has an answer. Run the warehouse: Redshift performance and cost, access management, and AWS infrastructure in Terraform. Maintain the reverse ETL syncs (Hightouch) that send data back into HubSpot, Intercom and the other tools our teams work in. Why People Choose Us Mission that matters. Real impact on small businesses, not abstract metrics Funded with conviction. $18M raised and profitable Real ownership. You own the data platform end to end, not one step of someone else's pipeline Hybrid by design. Our Berlin office in Prenzlauer Berg is the center of gravity, with two work-from-home days as the standard setup Direct feedback culture. Honest, direct, and kind feedback is part of how we work together - in 1:1s, retrospectives, and everyday collaboration Benefits & Culture Choose between an Urban Sports Club/John Reed membership or a public transport/Dance subscription Regular company and team events Annual personal development budget of €500 for conferences, courses, books, career coaching, and more An inclusive and exciting startup culture that enables fast professional and personal growth Beautiful office in the heart of Berlin (Prenzlauer Allee 242) with free snacks, drinks, and top-notch equipment We want to build a community, not just a company. It's important to us to create an environment where people genuinely enjoy spending time together - whether that's through HYROX training, golfing, beer pong tournaments, running clubs, Warhammer, weekend activities, or whatever kind of community you'd like to help build here! We're looking for people with passion, grit, and integrity. You're encouraged to apply even if your experience doesn't precisely match the description. At Superchat, we welcome diverse perspectives and people who think rigorously. Relocating to Berlin? We support you with practical relocation help. You'll feel home in no time. We look forward to your application! 🙂 With your application you agree to our privacy policy. Find Jobs in Germany on Arbeitnow
