About Anthropic Anthropic's mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems. About the role The Cloud Inference team scales and optimizes Claude to serve the massive audiences of developers and enterprise companies across AWS, GCP, Azure, and future cloud service providers (CSPs). We own the end-to-end product of Claude on each cloud platform, from API integration and intelligent request routing to inference execution, capacity management, and day-to-day operations. Within Cloud Inference, the model & inference launch team owns the validation pipeline for our inference server and load balancer on these platforms. We're responsible for every inference change — model launches, performance improvements, safeguard integrations — landing on cloud platforms with correctness, performance, and reliability intact. This is high-leverage infrastructure work: validation has to be fast and cheap enough to run on the same accelerators that serve customers, trustworthy enough to replace manual checks, and consistent enough that a change working on Anthropic first-party means it works everywhere. This directly determines how fast frontier models and features ship to every cloud platform, and how quickly performance wins reach production — reclaiming capacity at a time when compute is our scarcest resource. Key responsibilities Be on the critical path for frontier model launches, bringing up inference for new model architectures and shipping them to cloud platforms in lockstep with our first-party platform Work with the core inference team to bring new inference features (e.g. structured sampling, prompt caching, and more) to cloud platforms, owning the platform-specific integration that gets them to production Identify and dive deep on the gaps that make inference behave differently across first-party and CSPs — config drift, observability, deployment patterns, hard cross-platform bugs — and fix them at the source rather than building platform-specific workarounds Design, build, and own the CI/CD infrastructure for the inference server and load balancer across cloud platforms, with shadow traffic, performance baselines (throughput and latency), and correctness checks that catch regressions before production Drive down merge-to-production cycle time by making validation faster, more parallel, and cost-effective enough to run on the same constrained accelerator pool that serves customers, without trading away reliability Analyze observability data across providers to identify performance bottlenecks, cost anomalies, and regressions, and drive remediation based on real-world production workloads Minimum qualifications Have a strong interest in LLM serving; prior inference or ML experience is not required Have significant software engineering experience, with a strong background in high-performance, large-scale distributed systems serving millions of users Have a track record of building automation or test infrastructure that measurably improved release velocity or reliability Have experience building or operating services on at least one major cloud platform (AWS, GCP, or Azure), with exposure to Kubernetes, Infrastructure as Code, or container orchestration Thrive in cross-functional collaboration with both internal teams and external partners Are a fast learner who can quickly ramp up on new technologies, hardware platforms, and provider ecosystems Are highly autonomous and take ownership of problems end-to-end, including work that falls outside your job description Preferred qualifications LLM inference optimization, batching, and caching strategies Capacity-constrained scheduling or shared-resource test infrastructure Solid understanding of multi-region deployments, request routing, load balancing, global traffic management Working with CSP partner teams to scale infrastructure across multiple platforms, navigating differences in networking, security, privacy, and managed service Proficiency in Python or Rust The annual compensation range for this role is listed below. We own the end-to-end product of Claude on each cloud platform, from API integration and intelligent request routing to inference execution, capacity management, and day-to-day operations. Our engineers are extremely high leverage: we simultaneously drive multiple major revenue streams while optimizing one of Anthropic's most precious resources: compute. As we expand to more cloud platforms, the complexity of managing inference efficiently across providers with different hardware, networking stacks, and operational models grows significantly. We need product-minded backend engineers who can navigate these platform differences, design the services and abstractions that work across providers, and make architectural decisions that keep us reliable and cost-effective at massive scale. Your work will increase the scale at which our services operate, accelerate our ability to reliably launch new frontier models and innovative features to customers across all platforms, and ensure our LLMs meet rigorous safety, performance, and security standards. Key responsibilities Design, build, and own backend services and infrastructure that serve Claude across multiple CSPs, accounting for differences in compute hardware, networking, APIs, and operational models Work cross-functionally with internal inference, product API, systems, and security teams, among others, and with CSP partners to stand up the full serving stack on new cloud platforms, resolve operational issues, and influence provider roadmaps Build and evolve CI/CD automation systems, including validation and deployment pipelines, that reliably ship new model versions to millions of users across cloud platforms without regressions Design interfaces and tooling abstractions across CSPs that enable cost-effective inference management, scale across providers, and reduce per-platform complexity Contribute to capacity planning, autoscaling, and workload routing strategies that match supply with demand and direct requests to the most cost-effective accelerator and region Analyze observability data across providers to identify performance bottlenecks, cost anomalies, and regressions, and drive remediation based on real-world production workloads Minimum qualifications Have significant software engineering experience, with a strong background in high-performance, large-scale distributed systems serving millions of users Have experience building or operating services on at least one major cloud platform (AWS, GCP, or Azure), with exposure to Kubernetes, Infrastructure as Code, or container orchestration Are curious about LLM serving; prior inference or ML experience is not required Thrive in cross-functional collaboration with both internal teams and external partners Have experience working with external partners to align goals and deliver impact Are a fast learner who can quickly ramp up on new technologies, hardware platforms, and provider ecosystems Are highly autonomous and take ownership of problems end-to-end, including work that falls outside your job description Preferred qualifications Direct experience working with CSPs to scale infrastructure or products across multiple platforms, navigating differences in networking, security, privacy, billing, and managed service offerings Hands-on experience with capacity management, cost optimization, or resource planning at scale across heterogeneous environments Solid understanding of multi-region deployments, geographic routing, and global traffic management Proficiency in Python or Rust The annual compensation range for this role is listed below. About the role The Account Abuse team is tasked with ensuring Anthropic's computing capacity is allocated fairly, minimizing resources available to bad actors and preventing them from coming back. As a software engineer on this team, you will build the machine learning systems that help us detect and stop abuse at scale. The ideal candidate can see things from opponents' perspectives, understand their means and motives, and anticipate their responses to countermeasures. We're looking for full stack machine learning engineers with experience across model training, productionization, and evaluation. You'll also look for ways to use Claude to speed up how these models get built and maintained. This is classical ML on structured and behavioral data. You do not need a deep learning background or knowledge of LLM internals. What matters is that you have trained and shipped models where the stakes are real, and that you care about building robust production systems as much as the model itself. A false positive here is a legitimate customer locked out, so measurement, precision, and safe rollout are part of the job. Key responsibilities Build and operate a feature computation platform that serves both model training and real-time scoring, with point-in-time correct training data and low-latency online retrieval Train, evaluate, and deploy models that detect account-level abuse and fraud, running them both offline and online Build tooling that automates more of the model development lifecycle, including using Claude to speed up feature development, training, and evaluation Make backtesting, shadow deployment, and staged rollout the default path to production, with monitoring for training / serving skew, drift, and adversarial adaptation Work with our data scientists and our Policy & Enforcement team to improve label coverage and quality Partner with product and platform teams to gather signals and integrate model decisions with minimal impact on their systems' latency, stability, or overall architecture Minimum qualifications Proficiency in Python and SQL Experience training machine learning models and deploying them to production Experience building data pipelines with a batch processing engine (e.g., Spark, Beam) and a workflow scheduler (e.g., Airflow) Working understanding of point-in-time correctness and training / serving skew, and how to prevent both Strong communication skills and ability to explain technical tradeoffs to non-technical stakeholders Preferred qualifications Experience building or operating a feature platform such as Chronon, Feast, or Tecton Experience with stream processing engines such as Flink, Beam / Dataflow, or Kafka Streams Experience training ML models in a production setting with demanding serving requirements, such as fraud, risk, or ranking Experience with tree-based models on tabular data Experience building unsupervised, clustering-based or graph-based detection systems to surface coordinated account abuse Experience in integrity, spam, fraud, or abuse detection Experience working with scarce, delayed, or noisy labels Experience with AutoML or other approaches to automating the ML workflow Care about the societal impacts of AI and want your work to make powerful systems safer The annual compensation range for this role is listed below. For sales roles, the range provided is the role's On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. Annual Salary: $320,000 — $485,000 USD Logistics Minimum education: Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience Required field of study: A field relevant to the role as demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience Minimum years of experience: Years of experience required will correlate with the internal job level requirements for the position Location-based hybrid policy: Currently, we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time. Partnering closely with counsel, we provide custom infrastructure and guidance for complex, novel technical matters, empowering teams across the company to continue meeting our legal obligations as we innovate. As a Senior+ Software Engineer on our Legal Tech team, you'll build dedicated, highly secure, and reliable cloud environments and data processing and storage capabilities at speed and scale. You will own your scope end to end: from raw requirements all the way through to large-scale production systems that satisfy legal invariants and unlock new possibilities. You'll be an essential member of a collaborative team, working together to solve difficult problems against fixed deadlines. You will own internal customer relationships as well: you'll gather, prioritize, and coordinate needs from colleagues on Privacy, Security, Research, and/or Infra as well as Legal, to ship the right capabilities on the right timelines. You'll act as a trusted advisor: clearly explaining technical concepts and constraints to inform legal decisions, and proactively designing new approaches to prevent classes of problems. Your infrastructure expertise will directly empower our business to calibrate and manage risk, innovating faster thanks to systems that build in legal considerations. Key responsibilities Build and operate dedicated cloud infrastructure, storage, and data pipelines for specialized workloads that can't run on general-purpose systems Design architectures with excellent security, privacy, reliability, scalability, and auditability baked in Partner with a wide range of internal customer teams to translate requirements into sound approaches and realistic ETAs Deliver against fixed deadlines Support complex and novel legal requests on controlled infrastructure, with verifiable chain of custody Pair with engineering teams across the company to extend existing infrastructure to support new workflows and/or legal requests Work with nontechnical stakeholders to clarify their needs through responsive, easy-to-follow dialogue Minimum qualifications Experience designing, building, and operating highly trusted infrastructure and data systems in production, including owning architectural decisions Experience working across large, complex, multi-team environments, including in stacks and code you don't own Ability to take ownership of a cloud account and secure it end to end (networking, storage, identity, encryption, least-privilege provisioning, etc.) on AWS and/or GCP Ability to translate legal and privacy requirements into sound technical designs and implementations that teams are excited to adopt A habit of verifying rather than assuming: designing checks for invariants and plainly naming what isn't proved Self-directed in a high-change environment, and comfortable resequencing quickly when new needs emerge Clear communication with nontechnical stakeholders, and an understanding of their needs Preferred qualifications Software engineering experience with an infrastructure, data, privacy, and/or security focus Proficiency with large-scale data tooling, such as distributed processing, lakehouse table formats, and/or query engines Understanding of data processing pipelines, LLM training, and/or provenance and lineage Experience with secure enclaves, confidential computing, clean rooms, or other purpose-built environments for sensitive data Background in eDiscovery, litigation support, or records retention at scale, including chain of custody and verifiable integrity The annual compensation range for this role is listed below. Who we are About Stripe Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies—from the world's largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups—use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone's reach while doing the most important work of your career. About the team Growth Platform builds the machine learning systems that help businesses discover and use the Stripe products that meet their needs. Our recommendations reach users across the Dashboard, email, onboarding, documentation, and AI agent interfaces. We combine an understanding of each business with models that decide which recommendation is useful, when to show it, and how to learn from the outcome. Our work spans recommendation and ranking models, contextual bandits, agent-based recommendations, and the data and evaluation systems behind them. We build shared capabilities that product, marketing, and sales teams can use across Stripe. Success means helping businesses take useful actions and adopt products that help them grow, while keeping recommendations relevant and avoiding unnecessary messages. What you'll do You will build and operate production ML systems that improve how Stripe recommends products, content, and next steps to businesses. You will own work from problem definition and feature development through training, evaluation, deployment, monitoring, and iteration. Working with data scientists, engineers, and product partners, you will turn model improvements into measurable user and business outcomes. Responsibilities Design, train, evaluate, deploy, and maintain models for recommendation, ranking, and personalized action selection across Growth Platform surfaces. Improve contextual bandit and policy-learning approaches, including exploration, reward design, and how recommendations adapt to user context and feedback. Build agent-based recommendation capabilities that use business context to identify relevant products and integration options, with evaluations that test recommendation quality and usefulness. Develop reliable data and feature pipelines for training and inference. Improve data freshness, feature quality, and consistency between training and production. Build reusable tooling for model evaluation, retraining, and safe rollout so the team can test and ship improvements faster. Own the quality and operation of the team's ML components: write tested production code, monitor models and pipelines, investigate failures, and improve reliability, latency, and cost. Design and analyze online experiments with data science partners. Connect offline evaluation to product adoption and incremental impact, with guardrails for dismissals, unsubscribes, and user experience. Partner with product engineering to integrate models into recommendation delivery systems, and with ML infrastructure teams to use and improve Stripe's shared training, feature, and serving capabilities. Work with product, marketing, and sales partners to identify problems that shared ML capabilities can solve, and make practical choices about where modeling adds value. Who you are You are a machine learning engineer with a builder mindset. You care about the business problem, the quality of the model, and what happens after it ships. You can move between modeling and software engineering, make practical tradeoffs, and take ownership of an ambiguous problem through production and measurement. We're looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement. Minimum requirements 3+ years of industry experience in machine learning engineering, software engineering, or applied data science, with hands-on experience building and shipping ML models in production. Strong programming skills in Python and experience writing maintainable, tested production code. Practical experience designing, training, and evaluating ML models using frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, XGBoost, or scikit-learn. Experience building data or feature pipelines, proficiency in SQL, and familiarity with distributed data processing tools such as Spark or PySpark. A strong understanding of statistics, model evaluation, and experimentation, including the ability to recognize data leakage and distinguish offline model improvements from business impact. Experience deploying, monitoring, and debugging production ML systems, and evaluating tradeoffs among model quality, reliability, latency, and cost. Ability to turn an open-ended business problem into a technical approach and collaborate effectively with engineering, data science, product, and business partners. Preferred qualifications Experience with recommendation systems, ranking, personalization, or marketplace and advertising optimization. Experience with contextual bandits, policy learning, causal inference, or off-policy evaluation. Experience building and evaluating LLM applications, including structured extraction, embeddings, or recommendations grounded in user and business context. Experience building reusable ML capabilities used by multiple products or teams, including training automation, feature systems, or model monitoring. Experience with product growth, lifecycle messaging, or systems that balance short-term engagement with longer-term user outcomes.
