AI Engineer

Who We Are About Stripe Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies—from the world's largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups—use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone's reach while doing the most important work of your career. About The Team The Solutions Architecture (SA) organization helps Stripe's most strategic customers design and validate technical solutions that drive their business forward. Within SA, our team builds the tools, workflows, and custom technical assets that make the broader SA org more effective—turning individual ingenuity into org-wide capability. We are looking for AI Engineers who are energized by working close to the business and the users we serve. You'll operate as an embedded, high-context engineer focused on the highest-leverage opportunities across the SA org—building production-quality tooling, supporting our most strategic engagements, and shipping automation that meaningfully improves how Solutions Architects work every day. What You'll Do As an AI Engineer, you'll be embedded directly with the Solutions Architecture team—building alongside them, deeply understanding their workflows, and shipping tools and automation that permanently change how they operate. Your measure of success is SA productivity: the engagements you've accelerated, the workflows you've transformed, and the tools you've built that the org adopts as default. You'll ship code daily. You'll discover where SAs lose time and build high-impact solutions. You'll take what works for one person and scale it to work for the org. And when our most strategic customer engagements need custom technical assets, you'll build those too. This is a role for someone who wants to work at the intersection of engineering and business impact—close to customers, close to revenue, and building for people you can see using your work every day. Responsibilities Collaborate with Solutions Architects, SA leadership, Product, and Engineering to scope technical work and translate ambiguous business needs into well-defined deliverables Evaluate and integrate AI capabilities (LLMs, agents, workflow automation) where they provide genuine leverage—not for novelty, but for measurable productivity improvement Architect and build internal tools, agents, and automated workflows that accelerate SA and manager productivity across technical discovery, solution design, demoing, user engagements, territory/pipeline management, and product interlock Take high-potential tools and workflows built by SAs and managers and harden them into scalable, maintainable, production-grade solutions Identify patterns across SA workflows and proactively build solutions that address recurring friction Build custom demo environments, PoC applications, and technical assets for Stripe's most strategic customer engagements Document tools, architectures, and usage patterns so others can adopt and extend what you've built Debug, extend, and maintain backend systems across a variety of codebases and infrastructure Minimum Requirements 4+ years of experience as an engineer shipping production systems Strong backend engineering fundamentals: you can debug a failing system, trace issues across services, and reason about data flows Experience building and deploying AI agents, LLM-powered tools, or workflow automation beyond basic prompt engineering Experience scoping and delivering work with minimal oversight in a fast-moving, cross-functional environment Proficiency in at least two of: Ruby, Node.js, Python, or Next.js Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP) including deployment, monitoring, and basic DevOps Experience building internal tools, developer platforms, or workflow automation Demonstrated ability to work across multiple codebases and technology stacks simultaneously Hands-on experience using AI/LLM tools in your engineering workflow—you're fluent with AI-assisted development but not dependent on it; you can reason through problems and debug without AI as a crutch Strong written and verbal communication skills; you can translate technical decisions for non-technical stakeholders and navigate cross-functional collaboration naturally Comfort with ambiguity—you can take a loosely-defined business problem, scope the engineering work, and ship iteratively without waiting for a perfect spec Preferred Qualifications Experience designing systems that non-engineers can build on top of or extend themselves (e.g., platforms, low-code frameworks, template systems) Experience in a Solutions Engineering, Sales Engineering, or GTM Engineering role—or a product engineering role where you worked closely with customers or go-to-market teams Familiarity with Stripe's products, APIs, or the payments/fintech domain Experience integrating with third-party platforms (Salesforce, Gong, etc.) Track record of building tools or systems that were adopted beyond your immediate team Background in consulting, professional services, or other roles that blend technical depth with business context Who You Are Beyond the technical requirements, we're looking for a specific kind of engineer: You want to be close to the business. You're energized by seeing your work directly impact how a sales team wins a deal or how a customer succeeds. You're a pragmatic builder. You ship working solutions quickly, iterate based on real usage, and know when "good enough now" beats "perfect later." You'd rather show a working prototype today than present a roadmap deck next quarter. You're a software engineer by practice. You can architect systems, debug production issues, write clean code, and reason about tradeoffs. AI is a tool in your belt, not a substitute for engineering judgment. You're a pattern recognizer. When you build something that works for one person, you immediately see how it generalizes. You think in reusable systems, not one-off scripts. You thrive without a traditional product team structure. No PRDs landing in your lap, no dedicated PM, no sprint ceremonies. You identify the highest-leverage problem, scope the work, and ship it. You're comfortable trading on-call rotations and rigid processes for autonomy and impact. You're a strong communicator. You can partner with SAs who are domain experts, understand their workflows deeply enough to build great tools, and explain your technical choices to leadership.

About Anthropic Anthropic's mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems. About the Role:  As a Manager of Startups Applied AI Architects at Anthropic, you will drive adoption of frontier AI by leading a team of technical architects to help startups build AI-native products with the Claude Developer Platform. Your team is expected to win the trust of founders and engineers by supporting their technical ambitions from early product to scale. You'll bring your own builder credibility and startup instincts to the role — setting the vision for what great technical partnership looks like in the startup segment, developing a high-performing team, and personally carrying relationships with Anthropic's most strategic early-stage accounts. This is a role for a proven technical go-to-market leader who knows how to build teams that move at startup speed, earn the trust of deeply technical buyers, and turn a scrappy early engagement into a lasting technical partnership. You'll define the playbooks for nurturing and scaling new customers, set the bar for technical excellence, and grow the people — while staying close enough to the ground to know what's actually working. You will partner with sales leaders and work as one team to support your customers.   Responsibilities:  Lead, develop, and grow a team of Startups Applied AI Architects — setting a high bar for technical credibility, customer impact, and startup-paced execution Drive team performance through clear goal-setting, regular coaching, and a culture of continuous technical development Personally lead pre-sales engagements with high-priority startup accounts, from initial technical discovery through deployment and expansion, modeling what great looks like for your team Build and own the segment's technical playbooks: how to run technical evaluations, develop customer-specific eval frameworks, architect LLM solutions for resource-constrained early-stage teams, and win against competitive alternatives Partner with aligned Account Executives and GTM leadership to shape segment strategy and drive Claude API adoption across the startup ecosystem Ensure your team consistently surfaces insights on how startups are building with Claude — emerging use cases, deployment patterns, architectural decisions — and translate that signal into actionable feedback for Product and Engineering Drive cross-functional influence across Sales, Product, and Engineering to advance startup customer needs and shape roadmap priorities Build Anthropic's technical presence and credibility in the startup ecosystem through events, conferences, workshops, and content Stay ahead of the AI engineering landscape — context engineering, eval frameworks, agentic architectures, developer tooling — and ensure your team is operating at the frontier   You may be a good fit if you: Have 8+ years of experience in technical customer-facing roles (Solutions Architect, Sales Engineer, Forward Deployed Engineer, or similar), with 5+ years leading and managing pre-sales or technical go-to-market teams Have a strong track record of building and developing high-performing SA teams — you know how to hire well, coach effectively, and create an environment where technical talent grows and does their best work Have deep experience working with startups or high-growth technology companies — you understand the velocity, constraints, and culture of early-stage companies and know how technical decisions get made at each stage of the journey Bring genuine builder credibility: you've built and deployed LLM-powered applications, you speak the language of founders and founding engineers, and you can earn the trust of deeply technical audiences without relying on a title Have hands-on expertise with context engineering, LLM evaluation frameworks, and modern AI architectures, and can guide both your team and customers through the decisions that separate a prototype from a production-grade system Are comfortable with Python and fluent in the LLM frameworks, tools, and integration patterns common in startup engineering stacks Are energized by building in ambiguous environments — you're excited to define the playbook, not just run it, and you thrive in fast-moving contexts where the technology and the customer segment are both evolving rapidly Have a genuine passion for making powerful technology safe and societally beneficial   Strong candidates may have: Experience as a technical founder or in a founder-led sales motion, giving you firsthand understanding of what technical buyers in the startup world are actually evaluating A track record of winning competitive technical evaluations against other LLM providers  Experience building foundational team infrastructure from the ground up: hiring frameworks, onboarding programs, technical playbooks, and coaching systems in a high-growth environment Deep familiarity with how developer infrastructure procurement evolves from seed through Series B and beyond, and how to adapt your team's approach accordingly A visible technical presence in the startup or AI engineering community through conference talks, written content, or open-source contributions The annual compensation range for this role is listed below.  For sales roles, the range provided is the role's On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. Annual Salary: $315,000 — $380,000 USD Logistics Minimum education: Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience Required field of study:  A field relevant to the role as demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience Minimum years of experience: Years of experience required will correlate with the internal job level requirements for the position Location-based hybrid policy: Currently, we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time. About the role The Endpoint team (Client Platform Engineering) treats Anthropic's device fleet as a platform we build and run. We run our own MDM as a production service and manage every piece of device configuration as code. Policies, configuration profiles, queries, remediation scripts, and software all ship through pull requests, CI, a staging environment, and a canary group before they reach the fleet. The fleet is mostly macOS, plus a small number of Linux machines and a growing mobile footprint. You'll own that platform end to end: the infrastructure underneath the MDM, the configuration on top of it, the patching and software pipelines that keep thousands of devices patched and secure, and the telemetry that tells us what is actually true on every device. You'll also build automation that cuts down on manual operational work. You'll work with Security teams on hardening, compliance controls, and detection and response, and with developer and infrastructure teams to make sure those controls don't get in the way of their work. Your work will let us base access decisions on whether a device can be trusted. We value people who double check a compliance report before they believe it. The team is deliberately lean and runs with high autonomy. You'll help define the endpoint roadmap, make architecture decisions, and own the platform every Anthropic employee's work runs on. You'll also help us meet the security standards our Responsible Scaling Policy requires as models advance. Responsibilities Own endpoint configuration as code: author, review, test, and progressively roll out MDM policies, configuration profiles, and remediation scripts across macOS and mobile, with canary stages and rollback built in Operate the MDM platform itself as a production service, including infrastructure as code, observability, upgrades, and incident response Build patch management automation with rapid enforcement timelines while maintaining good user experience Design zero touch provisioning that turns a sealed box into a productive machine on day one Support a small number of Linux machines alongside the Mac fleet Turn fleet telemetry into policy, dashboards, and early drift warnings, and use Claude to automate manual ops work Partner with Corporate Security on endpoint hardening, binary authorization, and compliance controls Take shifts on the team's rotation for incoming requests and escalations, and serve as the deep escalation tier for endpoint issues IT Operations can't resolve You may be a good fit if you Have 8+ years building secure IT systems in complex environments, including leading projects across multiple teams Have managed endpoint fleets of thousands of macOS devices through a modern MDM Treat endpoint configuration as code that is version controlled and peer reviewed, rather than clicking in consoles Go deep on macOS internals such as launchd, configuration profiles, TCC, and system extensions Write Python and shell scripts Write design docs and runbooks so teammates can review and support what you build Strong candidates may also have Have operated an MDM or device management platform as a service, not only consumed one as SaaS Have worked with open source endpoint and device management tooling (Munki, osquery, AutoPkg) Have built automated, progressive rollout systems with promotion gated on telemetry Have experience running infrastructure as code in a public cloud Have working knowledge of Linux administration (packaging, systems, config management) Have used LLMs to automate ops work Deadline to apply: None. Applications will be received on a rolling basis. The annual compensation range for this role is listed below.  For sales roles, the range provided is the role's On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. As such, we greatly value communication skills. The easiest way to understand our research directions is to read our recent research. This research continues many of the directions our team worked on prior to Anthropic, including: GPT-3, Circuit-Based Interpretability, Multimodal Neurons, Scaling Laws, AI & Compute, Concrete Problems in AI Safety, and Learning from Human Preferences. Come work with us! Anthropic is a public benefit corporation headquartered in San Francisco. We offer competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and a lovely office space in which to collaborate with colleagues.
