About the role At Agile Robots, we build powerful software frameworks to orchestrate complex robotic systems and solve challenging tasks. The solutions are sold to various international customers to enable them to control their robotic work cells. Smooth integration and scalable deployment are key goals. AgileCore is meant to be a scalable platform that supports multiple projects in parallel. That only works if the platform underneath scales with it - if it stays fast, thread-safe, and diagnosable as projects, devices, and operating conditions multiply. We are looking for a Senior C++ Performance Engineer to join our AgileCore Runtime core team. This is a T-shaped role in a small senior team: you are a full member of the core team first - contributing to the Runtime, reviewing contributions from the teams that build on our platform, and sharing our support and release duties - and within the team, you own the performance and stability practice as your specialization. On the specialization side, you will drive the performance of the Runtime core - the Blackboard, the Behavior Engine and the execution paths beneath them - make the system provably thread-safe under load, and make failures in the field fast to diagnose. You own the practice: the methodology, the tooling, the benchmarks, the audits and the education. You work hand in hand with the platform architect, who owns the performance budgets and hot-path interface contracts at the architecture level - you turn those budgets into measured, enforced reality and shape them with your findings. You set the standard for performance, concurrency and troubleshooting, and raise the team's ability to meet it without slowing feature development down. This is a shipping role, not a research role: success is measured in merged improvements, closed field escalations and green regression gates - not in microbenchmark leaderboards. We optimize to the budget the product needs, not to zero. Why this role Greenfield performance infrastructure: the benchmark suites, budgets and CI regression gates are yours to build, not inherit A measurable, physical problem: your profiling and your benchmarks run against real robots on our hardware-in-the-loop rigs - where third-party plugins meet 1 kHz vendor control loops A small senior core team with real ownership: your work becomes the standard the whole platform builds on Your Responsibilities: Own the latency, throughput, and jitter of the Runtime core components - the Blackboard (our typed, subscribable in-process data plane) and the Behavior Engine (skill execution tree, trigger handling) - and carry improvements end to end: from flame graph to merged change to a regression gate that keeps it fixed Build the real-time basis for the platform: scheduling policies and priorities, CPU affinity, allocation, and page-fault discipline on hot paths, and lock-free structures where they pay for themselves Be a full member of the Runtime core team: develop core components, review contributions from feature teams building on the platform, and take part in the team's support and release rotations Make performance measurable and enforced - benchmark suites, per-subsystem budgets, and regression gates in CI instead of surprises at a customer site Be the hands-on authority on thread safety: ownership models, lock hierarchies, memory-order reasoning, and eliminating whole classes of races through sanitizers, stress and soak testing Ensure the product holds across the complete operational domain it is used in - every supported device, load profile, and deployment topology, not only the configurations that appear in a demo Improve debuggability so that factory deployment and support scale: tracing, structured logging, runtime metrics, crash and core-dump handling, symbols for stripped release binaries Carry performance and stability into the Plugin SDK and its C ABI, where third-party plugins meet vendor control loops running at 1 kHz Investigate complex issues across software, OS, network, and hardware boundaries - including the hardest escalations from the field Partner with the platform architect on performance-critical design: propose and implement improvements within the platform's performance budgets and hot-path interface contracts, and feed measurements back into how those budgets are set Mentor engineers in performance, concurrency, and troubleshooting through code reviews, deep-dive sessions, design discussions and technical guidance - without producing overhead Essential Skills: 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with strong hands-on C++ development Based in Munich or open to relocate - we support relocation and visa sponsorship Strong written and verbal communication skills in English Strong experience with modern C++, ideally C++17 or C++20, including templates and compile-time design Proven performance engineering: profiling before optimizing, reading flame graphs and hardware counters, and reasoning about tail latency and jitter rather than averages A track record of shipped performance work: improvements you carried from measurement through merged code to sustained enforcement in CI - not benchmarks in isolation Strong experience with multi-threaded and concurrent programming: memory models, atomics, lock-free patterns, and the judgment to know when a plain mutex is the right answer Exposure to real-time or near-real-time systems on Linux is strongly preferred: scheduling policies, preemption, priority inversion, CPU affinity, and the usual sources of jitter - deep prior RT experience is a plus, not a gate; the performance fundamentals matter more Strong debugging skills using GDB, sanitizers (ASan/TSan/UBSan), Valgrind, perf, strace, ltrace, tcpdump, and core dumps Solid understanding of Linux internals: processes, threads, IPC, signals, scheduling, memory management, buffering, and dynamic linking Experience with CMake and compiler toolchains (GCC, Clang) Experience writing automated tests, including unit tests, integration tests, and hardware-related test strategies, as well as benchmarks and stress/soak tests A pragmatic, team-first senior mindset: you optimize the things that matter to the product and stop when the budget is met; you share reviews, support, and release duties in a small senior team; you make your specialty a capability of the whole team rather than a silo - and you would rather ship a 30% win this week than discuss a 3% win for a month Beneficial Skills: Database internals: storage and index structures, concurrency control, MVCC, transaction and cache design - our Blackboard is essentially an in-process typed store Contributions to high-performance or systems software: allocators, runtimes, engines, databases, network stacks, kernels A low-latency background: trading systems, real-time audio or video, telecom, or embedded motion control Extensive template metaprogramming and compile-time computation Knowledge of real-time Linux, kernel scheduling, IRQ handling, kernel/user-space boundaries, and latency measurement with cyclictest, ftrace or eBPF C++ ABI and plugin / shared-library API design that stays stable across compilers and toolchain versions Hands-on experience with instrumentation profilers such as Tracy (we use it), as well as perf, VTune, or similar Windows internals and the MSVC toolchain - parts of the platform also ship on Windows Networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, UDP, sockets, latency, buffering, and packet flow Experience designing maintainable architectures - clear ownership, separation of concerns, testability - in systems constrained by time, not only by features What we offer A dynamic high-tech company, combined with financial soundness and world-class investors. Join an interdisciplinary, international team with 60+ different nationalities in a collaborative work environment. Lots of development opportunities as we continue to grow. Challenging tasks and impactful projects alongside experts that enable professional and personal growth. Corporate Benefits Program covering health, mobility, and learning for 100€ net per month. Through One WPP and the Elevate28 transformation agenda, we are building a simpler, more integrated, agile and AI-powered enterprise. WPP's Performance & Culture Center of Excellence brings together the capabilities that help our people, teams and organisation perform, grow and thrive. Within it, Enterprise Effectiveness aligns WPP's organisation, workforce and teams around its strategic priorities and enables the change required to deliver them. About the Role The Workforce Intelligence & Analytics Manager is a contract role that will build the evidence base for the workforce and organisation decisions that matter most to WPP. This role will turn fragmented people, organisation and business data into clear insight, forward-looking scenarios and practical recommendations that help leaders decide where to invest, how to shape the workforce and how to organise for performance. Reporting to the Global Head of Enterprise Effectiveness, you will support the wider Performance & Culture Center of Excellence while working closely with business, People & Culture, Finance, Data and Technology partners. You will establish a trusted workforce-intelligence capability that supports strategic workforce planning and informs priority organisation, workforce, team and people decisions across Enterprise Effectiveness and the wider Performance & Culture Center of Excellence. This is not a traditional reporting role. It combines strategic analytics, internal consulting and leadership of a four-person data and reporting team based in India. You will be expected to work through ambiguity, connect disparate data and systems, and progressively turn fragmented analytics into a more integrated, trusted and usable capability. As a contract appointment, the initial focus will be to establish the core workforce-intelligence approach, strengthen the India-based team and deliver insight against WPP's highest-priority workforce and organisation questions. Why This Role Matters WPP's transformation requires faster, better choices about work, skills, capacity, organisation and investment. Those choices cannot be made from disconnected dashboards or backward-looking metrics alone. In this role, you will create a more integrated view of the workforce, translate evidence into choices and trade-offs, and help leaders anticipate the implications of AI, changing client demand and new ways of working. The work will directly shape how WPP builds the capabilities, capacity and organisation required for Elevate28. What You'll Do Build a trusted workforce intelligence capability Working with the Global Head of Enterprise Effectiveness, shape and build an enterprise workforce-intelligence approach that connects people, organisation and business data to the decisions leaders need to make. Define a focused set of workforce and organisational measures, dashboards and decision-support tools, moving reporting from activity and headcount toward capacity, capability, cost, productivity, risk and value. Partner with data owners and technology teams to map fragmented data and systems, define analytical requirements, and strengthen data definitions, quality, accessibility and responsible use, while being clear about limitations and the strength of the evidence. Establish repeatable analytical standards, governance and quality controls so insight is trusted, comparable and usable across WPP. Apply AI and automation to improve how workforce data is integrated, analysed and translated into decision support, while maintaining appropriate human judgement, transparency and responsible-use standards. Enable strategic workforce planning Help business and People & Culture leaders translate strategy, growth priorities and choices about how work is organised into workforce demand, capability and capacity requirements. Build scenarios that show the implications of different choices, including developing, hiring, accessing external capability, automating, augmenting, redeploying and exiting work or roles. Assess the current workforce and future talent supply, including critical skills, capacity, cost, location and role mix, highlighting gaps, risks and investment priorities. Connect workforce planning to business and financial planning cycles so decisions are timely, owned and grounded in common assumptions. Deliver forward-looking insight and decision support Use statistical analysis, forecasting and scenario modelling to identify emerging workforce and organisational risks, opportunities and patterns. Bring structure to ambiguous business questions, identify what can be answered with available data, test hypotheses and distinguish meaningful signals from correlation or noise. Turn analysis into clear choices, trade-offs and recommendations for senior leaders, including the consequences of action and inaction. Develop concise executive narratives and visualisations that make complex findings understandable without oversimplifying them. Strengthen organisation and transformation decisions Provide analytical support for organisation design, organisational health, inclusion and impact, talent development, team effectiveness and change priorities across Performance and Culture. Create baselines and evaluate whether organisation and workforce interventions are improving the intended outcomes. Combine quantitative evidence with qualitative insight to explain not only what is happening, but why it matters and where targeted action is needed. Identify enterprise patterns across businesses, markets and functions and convert them into practical recommendations for leaders and Enterprise Effectiveness partners. Scale tools, capability and adoption Build practical tools, templates and self-service products that improve the quality and consistency of workforce decisions. Coach People & Culture and business partners to interpret workforce insight, challenge assumptions and use scenarios in decision-making. Create a clear intake and prioritisation approach that focuses analytical capacity on the highest-value enterprise questions. Continuously improve the offer through user feedback, adoption evidence and emerging practice in workforce analytics, AI and organisational science. Lead and develop a four-person data and reporting team based in India, setting clear priorities, strengthening analytical and consulting capability, and shifting delivery from fragmented reporting toward higher-value workforce intelligence and decision support. Minimum Qualifications Relevant experience applying data and analytics in finance, commercial, operational or other business settings, together with experience in people analytics, workforce intelligence or strategic workforce planning. Experience translating business questions into analytical approaches, workforce scenarios and decision-ready recommendations. Strong capability in data analysis, forecasting, modelling and visualisation, using appropriate business intelligence or analytical tools. Proven experience working through ambiguity and improving a fragmented data and analytics environment by connecting disparate sources and systems, strengthening definitions and quality, and establishing practical governance, privacy and ethical standards. Ability to communicate complex findings clearly and influence senior stakeholders in a complex organisation. AI fluency, including a practical understanding of how AI and automation can improve analytics, workforce planning and decision support, and how they may reshape work, skills, roles and workforce requirements. Experience leading and developing an analytics or reporting team, including setting priorities, assuring quality and building capability across locations. A degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent practical experience. Preferred Experience Experience applying financial, commercial or operational analysis to workforce investment, capacity, productivity or organisation decisions. Experience in a complex global, matrixed or multi-business organisation, ideally supporting enterprise transformation or significant workforce change. Proficiency with relevant business intelligence, data-visualisation or analytical tools, which may include Power BI, Tableau, SQL, Python or R. Postgraduate study or relevant professional qualifications in analytics, finance, strategic workforce planning or a related field. What Success Looks Like A clear enterprise workforce-intelligence proposition focused on the workforce and organisation decisions most critical to One WPP and Elevate28. A more integrated and trusted data foundation, with common definitions, practical governance and decision-support tools that connect workforce, organisation, business and financial insight. Workforce plans, scenarios and recommendations that materially improve decisions about skills, capacity, location, cost, AI and automation, technology and workforce shape. Stronger adoption of workforce insight by business and People & Culture leaders, with greater confidence in what the data can and cannot support. A focused, capable India-based team that delivers consistent reporting while building higher-value workforce intelligence and decision-support capability. We believe the best work happens when we're together, fostering creativity, collaboration, and connection. That's why we've adopted a hybrid approach, with teams in the office around four days a week. If you require accommodations or flexibility, please discuss this with the hiring team during the interview process.
