Engineering Manager, Finance Engineering
AnthropicSan Francisco, United States (Hybrid)5 days ago

About Anthropic Anthropic's mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems. About the Role Every dollar Anthropic earns and every dollar it spends on compute has to reach the books correctly, and the volume grows with Claude usage. That data comes from across the company and from partners: usage and billing, compute, infrastructure assets, leases. Products and pricing models keep launching, and each one adds another path into the books. Our goal is a continuous close with zero material issues, with audit-grade controls. We're looking for an Engineering Manager to lead the engineers who build the platform that gets us there: one front door for every finance event, an append-only ledger, and an accounting engine that posts each event exactly once. You'll hire and grow the team, and hold the bar for how the platform is built and run in production. Its users include Claude agents, which read and write through the same APIs and controls as people. You'll partner with engineering teams in Billing, Compute and Infra on shared contracts and APIs, and with product owners and finance operations, who set the priorities and define the needs. You don't need a finance background. If you have led teams that build backend systems where correctness matters, we will teach you the domain. Responsibilities Lead and grow a team of engineers: hire, coach and hold a high bar for engineering quality Own delivery of the front door for finance events and its governed contracts, and the accounting ledger and engine, so every event is posted exactly once and can be traced back to its source Be accountable for the production services that other engineering teams call in real time, such as the tax and collections services in the billing flow Make sure finance apps and agents have the platform support they need: SDKs and frameworks, scoped access, SOX guardrails, observability, and the capabilities finance needs that claude products do not provide out of the box Define and own the reliability and correctness bar: SLOs on the services other teams call, tests that check key upstream calculations on every change, and daily accuracy and completeness checks from source to books Align on technical design, data contracts and APIs with engineering leaders in Billing, Compute and Infra Drive down the time it takes finance to support a new product, program or compute buildout Minimum qualifications Have led teams that build and run high-volume backend systems where correctness matters, such as ledgers, billing, payments, metering or other systems of record Have built or run event-driven systems with idempotent processing, replay and backfill, and know what it takes to keep them correct in production Have sound judgment on platform boundaries, data contracts and API design Have hired and grown engineers, and set engineering standards for platforms Work well across functions, with upstream engineering teams, finance and auditors, and explain technical trade-offs clearly to non-engineering partners, in writing and in the room Preferred qualifications Have 3+ years of engineering management experience, with 8+ years total in the industry Built developer platforms or paved paths used by other builders Worked with Go and with streaming systems such as Pub/Sub or Kafka Built with LLMs and agents, including MCP Built or run a ledger or sub-ledger, with a working knowledge of double-entry accounting Managed teams through audit and compliance work, such as SOX change management, segregation of duties and audit trails Worked with ERP or financial systems, such as Workday Financials or Oracle Financials The annual compensation range for this role is listed below.  For sales roles, the range provided is the role's On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. Annual Salary: $320,000 — $405,000 USD Logistics Minimum education: Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience Required field of study:  A field relevant to the role as demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience Minimum years of experience: Years of experience required will correlate with the internal job level requirements for the position Location-based hybrid policy: Currently, we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time. However, some roles may require more time in our offices. Visa sponsorship:  We do sponsor visas! However, we aren't able to successfully sponsor visas for every role and every candidate. But if we make you an offer, we will make every reasonable effort to get you a visa, and we retain an immigration lawyer to help with this. We encourage you to apply even if you do not believe you meet every single qualification. Not all strong candidates will meet every single qualification as listed.  Research shows that people who identify as being from underrepresented groups are more prone to experiencing imposter syndrome and doubting the strength of their candidacy, so we urge you not to exclude yourself prematurely and to submit an application if you're interested in this work. We think AI systems like the ones we're building have enormous social and ethical implications. We think this makes representation even more important, and we strive to include a range of diverse perspectives on our team. Your safety matters to us. To protect yourself from potential scams, remember that Anthropic recruiters only contact you from @anthropic.com email addresses. In some cases, we may partner with vetted recruiting agencies who will identify themselves as working on behalf of Anthropic. Be cautious of emails from other domains. Legitimate Anthropic recruiters will never ask for money, fees, or banking information before your first day. If you're ever unsure about a communication, don't click any links—visit  anthropic.com/careers  directly for confirmed position openings. How we're different We believe that the highest-impact AI research will be big science. At Anthropic we work as a single cohesive team on just a few large-scale research efforts. And we value impact — advancing our long-term goals of steerable, trustworthy AI — rather than work on smaller and more specific puzzles. We view AI research as an empirical science, which has as much in common with physics and biology as with traditional efforts in computer science. We're an extremely collaborative group, and we host frequent research discussions to ensure that we are pursuing the highest-impact work at any given time. As such, we greatly value communication skills. The easiest way to understand our research directions is to read our recent research. This research continues many of the directions our team worked on prior to Anthropic, including: GPT-3, Circuit-Based Interpretability, Multimodal Neurons, Scaling Laws, AI & Compute, Concrete Problems in AI Safety, and Learning from Human Preferences. Come work with us! Anthropic is a public benefit corporation headquartered in San Francisco. We offer competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and a lovely office space in which to collaborate with colleagues. Hi, we're Oscar. We're hiring a Director of Product, Provider Data Management to join our Product team. Oscar is the first health insurance company built around a full stack technology platform and a relentless focus on serving our members. We started Oscar in 2012 to create the kind of health insurance company we would want for ourselves—one that behaves like a doctor in the family.   About the role: The Network pillar enables Oscar to build, maintain, and operate a high-quality provider network that members can access with confidence. Accurate, timely, and reliable provider data is foundational to that work: it affects how providers are brought into the network, credentialed, contracted, represented in directories, and made ready to serve members and process claims. The Director of Product Management, Provider Data Management, will own the product strategy, roadmap, and delivery across the end-to-end provider-data lifecycle. This includes provider ingestion, reconciliation and data pipeline capabilities; credentialing workflows; the path from contract signature to claim-ready status; provider data maintenance; provider data quality; and the reliable distribution of provider data to downstream systems and experiences. In this role, you will manage and develop a team of Product Managers and partner closely with Engineering, Design, Data Science, Network Management, Network Operations, Provider Servicing, Credentialing, Contracting, and other downstream stakeholders. You will translate complex operational needs into scalable products and data-platform capabilities that make provider data trustworthy, explainable, and easier to manage at scale. You will turn fragmented, business-critical provider-data workflows into a reliable platform that directly improves network readiness, claims outcomes, and member/provider experience. You will report into a Vice President, Product Management. Work Location: This position is based in our New York City office, requiring a hybrid work schedule with 3 days of in-office work per week. Thursdays are a required in-office day for team meetings and events, while your other two office days are flexible to suit your schedule. #LI-Hybrid Pay Transparency: The base pay for this role is: $180,504.00 - $236,911.50 per year. Own the product portfolio spanning provider ingestion, provider data reconciliation, provider pipeline, credentialing, contract-to-claim-ready workflows, provider-data maintenance, and downstream distribution. Establish measurable outcomes for provider-data accuracy, time from contract signature to claim readiness, incorrect denials for credentialed entities, downstream configuration issues, and operational efficiency. Establish clear data governance, ownership, quality standards, lineage, and controls for provider data across its lifecycle. Lead, coach, and develop a team of Product Managers; establish effective product practices, decision-making forums, and operating rhythms across the portfolio. Serve as a hands-on product leader: develop and empower the Product Management team while personally leading the portfolio's most consequential strategic, technical, and cross-functional decisions. Partner closely with the Director of Network Management and Provider Servicing to translate network strategy, operating policies, frontline needs, and service insights into scalable product capabilities. Partner with Claims and downstream teams to reduce provider-data-related incorrect denials involving credentialed entities. Own product strategy, portfolio prioritization, and delivery decisions for Provider Data Management; partner closely with the Director of Network Management and Provider Servicing on business policies, operational requirements, change readiness, and adoption. Partner with Engineering and Data Science teams to set direction for data models, ingestion and ETL pipelines, entity and relationship logic, data-quality controls, lineage, reconciliation logic, and platform reliability. Drive the modernization and simplification of fragmented workflows, reducing manual intervention, downstream configuration defects, and time required to identify and resolve provider-data issues. Make complex data decisions transparent to operational partners by improving explainability, visibility, and operator control over how provider data is reconciled, maintained, and surfaced. Ensure appropriate self-service capabilities enable business operators to safely manage approved configuration and workflow changes without unnecessary engineering intervention. Build alignment among senior leaders and cross-functional stakeholders; clearly communicate strategy, tradeoffs, risks, progress, and results. Use qualitative insight and quantitative analysis to prioritize investments, evaluate performance, and evolve product strategy. Compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.  Other duties as assigned. Requirements: 10+ years of product management experience, including ownership of complex, multi-team product areas. 5+ years of people-management experience, including coaching, performance management, and development of Product Managers. Experience leading strategy and execution for technically complex products with significant data, platform, systems-integration, or operational-workflow components. Demonstrated ability to define meaningful product and operational metrics, use data to make decisions, and deliver measurable outcomes. Experience partnering effectively with engineering, data, design, operations, and senior business leaders in a highly cross-functional environment. Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts and tradeoffs to varied audiences. Ability to set direction amid ambiguity, make principled prioritization decisions, and deliver results across interdependent teams. Experience with provider-facing healthcare products or payer-provider operations. Familiarity with provider directory management, credentialing, claims processing and disputes, provider onboarding, and/or provider servicing. Bonus points: Experience with provider-facing healthcare products or payer-provider operations. Experience with provider directory management, credentialing, contracting, claims processing and disputes, provider onboarding, and/or provider servicing, healthcare operations, or another similarly regulated and operationally complex domain. Experience leading a product portfolio through significant modernization, consolidation, or reliability improvement. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems. About the Role We are hiring a Technical Program Manager to lead high priority safety and security programs which advance defense in depth for agents, which we have written about publicly .  You will be the lead TPM coordinating work across teams to strengthen how we develop and deploy agents safely and securely, and to bring what we build internally to customers and partners so everyone has the tools to safely and securely use Claude. You will be responsible for leading meetings with executives and technical leads, maintaining complex project plans, identifying and addressing risks, developing metrics, and communicating to the company and our customers about this work.  Responsibilities: Maintain the roadmap - Maintain and extend the existing roadmap for all work contributing to this effort across the company and implement approaches to ensure accuracy and relevance amidst a fast operational tempo. Turn program goals into measurable exit criteria at each phase of the work - To do this well you'll need to be responsive to new developments in capabilities and the threat landscape, both of which are evolving fast. Maintain key metrics and dashboards. Run the operating rhythm - Chair the leads meetings, working group meetings, design reviews, and executive check-ins. Record decisions and actions, disseminate sitreps quickly and regularly, and follow up until open issues close. Maintain industry context - Track relevant incidents, capabilities shifts, and research across frontier labs, and understand the key risks they reveal. Bring those lessons into our threat model, roadmap, and risk register. You may be a good fit if you: Have led company-wide technical programs, especially a company-wide security program, with multiple workstreams, executive sponsors, and other program managers rolling up to you.  Have a strong background in at least one of the program's domains: agent or infrastructure security, ML classifiers and monitoring, evaluations, inference infrastructure, protecting an organization's most sensitive data, or shipping security controls to customers. You know the terminology and can ramp up on the rest quickly. Have worked closely with ML research teams and understand how models are trained and evaluated. Work independently. You set direction without waiting for instructions and know when to make decisions and when to escalate. Can command a room and hold senior engineers, researchers, and executives accountable without formal authority. Write clearly and fast for any audience, from a one-page executive brief to a company-wide announcement. Use AI tools like Claude to automate tracking, reporting, and follow-up. Care about AI safety and want to help keep powerful systems under human oversight. Have 10+ years of experience in one of the aforementioned areas.  Deadline to apply: None, applications will be received on a rolling basis. Annual Salary: TBD with Recruiting. The annual compensation range for this role is listed below.  For sales roles, the range provided is the role's On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. Staff Software Engineer, Finance Engineering

You'll build the platform that gets us there: one front door for every finance event, an append-only ledger, and an accounting engine that posts each event exactly once. This is a distributed systems problem with an unusually high correctness bar. The system has to be right to the cent, replay cleanly and explain any number as of any date, at that volume. You will shape its architecture. Its users include Claude agents, which read and write through the same APIs and controls as people. You'll work closely with SWEs in Billing, Compute and Infra on shared contracts and APIs, and with product owners, finance operations and internal audit to turn accounting and controls requirements into designs. You don't need a finance background. If you have built backend systems where correctness matters, we will teach you the domain. Responsibilities Design and build the front door into finance and its governed contracts: APIs for apps and agents, an event bus for systems that publish, adapters for vendor apps and reports, data-quality gates, and processing that posts every event exactly once, with replay and backfill Drive the build of the accounting ledger and engine: an append-only ledger with idempotent posting, a rules framework that turns business events into journal entries, translation into the ERP, and period locks Design and build the SDKs and frameworks that finance apps and agents build on Build controls into the platform as code: immutable audit trail, maker-checker, scoped access and segregation of duties Build and run the production services that other engineering teams call in real time, such as the tax and collections services in the billing flow, and own their reliability: uptime, latency, throughput and correctness targets agreed with those teams Shape the platform's technical direction: architecture, engineering standards and design reviews Minimum qualifications Strong backend engineering in a statically typed language such as Go, Java or Rust, or Python at scale Experience designing and running high-volume, event-driven systems (publish/subscribe, streaming) with idempotent processing, replay and backfill Experience designing relational data models and writing SQL for complex, versioned data Experience designing APIs, SDKs and service-to-service integrations used by other teams Experience building systems with auditability, access control or compliance requirements Experience turning requirements from non-engineering partners into technical designs Strong written and verbal communication, including design docs Preferred qualifications 10+ years of experience Experience building developer platforms or paved paths Experience with streaming systems such as Pub/Sub or Kafka Experience building with LLMs and agents, including MCP Built a ledger, sub-ledger, billing or payments system Familiarity with accounting concepts: double-entry, journal entries Familiarity with internal controls and audit concepts: audit trails, segregation of duties, change management Exposure to ERP or financial systems, such as Workday Financials The annual compensation range for this role is listed below.
