Brief info about Vinted Our mission is to make second-hand the first choice, and we're looking for people who want to help us get there. Every day, we work together to help our members buy and sell pre-loved clothing and lifestyle items, giving each piece a second life – or even a third. The Vinted Group is made up of three business units that support this mission: Vinted Marketplace is Europe's leading platform for second-hand fashion and a go-to destination for all kinds of pre-loved items, with a growing range of categories. Our platform connects millions of members across 20+ markets, helping great items find a new life. Vinted Go enhances the shipping experience with a vast network of over 500,000 pick-up and drop-off points, partnering with more than 60 carriers across Europe, with added services like item verification for peace of mind on high-value pieces. Vinted Pay is the newest part of the Vinted Group, dedicated to bringing secure, reliable payments to buyers and sellers across Europe. Seamlessly integrated into the Vinted app, it helps keep every transaction safe, efficient, and easy for our members. Founded in 2008 in Lithuania, Vinted began as a way for friends to find new homes for clothes they no longer needed. In 2019, we became Lithuania's first unicorn! Today, our headquarters remain in Vilnius, and we've grown with offices across Europe, supported by a team of over 2,000 people. About the Role We are looking for a Director of Engineering to lead the Frontend Technologies domain within Marketplace. In this role, your mission will be two-fold: Pivot our frontend setup for bigger efficiency : we have been operating in mostly the same frontend setup for at least 6 years, and recognize that change is imminent. Drive strategic engineering initiatives : architect and implement platform-specific changes that enhance modularity, autonomy, resilience, and performance across Android, iOS, and Web. You will have to balance and prioritize foundational capabilities - such as Design Systems, CI/CD, Modularization, App Releases, Performance, and Global UI quality - to optimize both frontend developer velocity and user satisfaction. You will lead 4 Engineering Managers and 3 Staff Engineers and set and implement the FE strategy, which will impact the roadmaps of 9 Product domains within the Marketplace. In this position, you will Strategically: Ensure the most effective frontend setup for the Marketplace. We have 40+ teams, each with 3 frontend engineers (iOS, Android, and Web) in the Marketplace unit. We know this will look different in two years. Deciding what different means, and getting 9 product domains to fund it, is the job Drive Technology Strategy: Set and drive the future technology strategy for frontends, establishing a modular, scalable architecture that enables rapid development and strategic growth. Basically - raise the technological bar for all Marketplace unit. Refine the domain's identity: Take sole ownership of shaping its future, successfully integrating Design Systems and engineering to treat our frontend platforms as a cohesive product. Tactically : Lead frontends: Lead a horizontal, platform-focused domain containing Android, iOS, Web, and Design System teams. Lead Initiatives: Oversee Marketplace-wide technical tooling, core libraries, and frameworks. Lead strategic projects, i.e., frontend modularization and modernization (SwiftUI/Jetpack Compose), native automated testing. Elevate global UI quality: Integrate design systems and accessibility into the frontend ecosystem to consolidate technical, visual and interaction quality standards. Support UI experimentation. Ensure Resilience & Reliability: Maintain robust release processes, Marketplace frontend quality, and performance monitoring to reduce downtime and ensure a consistent member experience. Innovate & Optimize: Drive AI-efficiency enablement in frontend development and explore cross-platform frontend development opportunities to increase engineering speed and productivity. A lot of this work will be influencing without formal authority : Champion the frontend technical vision among your director peers, influencing the leaders of 9 Product domains to accommodate and prioritize platform-wide changes across 40+ teams. About you How much of a technical acumen? Enough to have in depth conversations with our direct reports. You will have 4 strong technical EMs reporting to you, as well as 3 world-class staff engineers. We don't think you need to match their technical competencies (that's a stretch!), but you have to be able to speak their language, understand problems at their essence, and be able to consolidate and multiply their inputs, including being able to disagree objectively. Leadership: you have a track record of making level change in the organizations that you lead (rather than 20% change). Consolidating your team views and making coherent strategy out of those views is step one. Step two is even more important: being able to implement these changes in your domain, and more so - across other domains in the marketplace - is a foundational ability you carry. In practice, that means you have at least 2 years of experience leading leaders and 5 years of experience influencing without authority. Change horizon: You are comfortable holding two timeframes at once. We need someone who can say, "Here is what our frontend setup should look like in two years, and here is why" AND name the clear deliverable that has to ship in the first quarter to make that end state reachable. Leaders who only do the second are common. Leaders who only do the first are entertaining. We need both. What this role is not: This is not a hands-on frontend or release-engineering role. You will not be tuning CI, owning the release train, or reviewing architecture decisions yourself — you'll have 4 strong EMs and 3 Staff Engineers close to the details, and your job is to turn their technical judgment into direction, alignment, and organizational change. If your strongest work is deep in the mechanics, you'll be underused here. If your strongest work is changing how 40+ teams operate, you'll be busy. Work perks The opportunity to benefit from our share options programme 25 days of paid annual leave Newest MacBook models Digital mental and emotional health support and Employee Assistant Program (EAP) Frequent team-building events Home office support: we provide IT workstation equipment and a personal budget of up to €540 for home workplace furniture A daily lunch allowance ClassPass (Gym Membership subsidy) Pension plan with total contribution of 12%, 8% by the Company and 4% by employee A personal monthly budget for shopping on Vinted An NS mobility card The opportunity to spend up to 90 days per year - 21 of which can be spent working outside of the EU - on workation A dog-friendly office Working at Vinted Individual Learning Budget We invest in your professional growth! As part of our commitment to continuous learning, we offer an annual learning budget to support your personal and career development through courses, certifications, workshops and more. Hybrid Work We've adopted a hybrid workplace model where 2 days in the office are recommended but not enforced. It's up to you and your team to decide on the exact days you'll spend working together in person. Equal Opportunity The Vinted Group is committed to building an inclusive workplace where people from all walks of life feel a sense of belonging. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, identities and life experiences. At Vinted, all applicants are treated fairly without regard to their race, age, religion or belief, sex, national origin, citizenship, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, or any other protected characteristic. Backend Engineer (m/f/d)
Full TimeOn-siteMid€60,000 - €70,000 / Year
pythontypescriptreactnext.jsfastapigoogle cloud+10

Python, FastAPI and PostgreSQL in a system we built entirely ourselves. Full stack welcome. Berlin or nearby, hybrid. Full-time, permanent. Start: as soon as possible What this is about Careship helps families find reliable support in everyday life: all across Germany, through self-employed caregivers and our own employed caregivers. Behind both stands a platform we built entirely ourselves, live since August 2026: a Python backend, an internal staff portal, an app for customers and an app for caregivers. The system covers everything from the first inquiry to payroll: matching, scheduling, care budgets, billing with care insurance funds, payment processing and digital contracts, plus email, chat, WhatsApp and phone calls in one inbox. It is live, it runs the operations of two companies, and it grows every week. This is why we are looking for the second person in our permanent engineering duo. Your role You work as one of two engineers on our system, with a focus on the Python backend: data model, business logic, APIs and the integrations our operations run on. If full stack is your thing, the rest is open to you: the staff portal in Next.js and our two apps in React Native. You share responsibility and cover for each other, in everyday work and during vacations. You build features from the data model through the business logic to the finished API endpoint, and all the way to the screen if you want. You work on core topics like the budget engine, billing, the payroll pipeline and matching. Logic where diligence really counts. You maintain code in production that real people use every day: our operations team, caregivers, and customers with their families. You work directly with product and the tech lead, no layers in between. Requirements arrive as fully worked-out specifications from our knowledge base, not as two-line tickets. You get freedom and real responsibility: the system is brand new, much of it is taking shape right now, and you help decide where it goes. The roadmap includes shift planning, analytics, a marketing module and an ambassador platform. Our stack Backend: Python 3.12, FastAPI, SQLAlchemy 2, Alembic, PostgreSQL, on Google Cloud (Cloud Run, Pub/Sub, Cloud Storage) Portal: Next.js 16, React 19, TypeScript, MUI, TanStack Query, generated OpenAPI client Apps: React Native with Expo, shipped through the app stores Integrations: Google Workspace (Gmail, Calendar, Meet), Auth0, Aircall, WhatsApp and DATEV, plus payment and e-signature providers How we work: AI-assisted. Specifications, code and reviews are created with AI support, as our everyday standard, not as an experiment. What you bring At least 3 years of experience in professional product development, more is a plus Solid Python experience in production, ideally with FastAPI and SQLAlchemy or comparable frameworks Confidence with relational databases and SQL, PostgreSQL in our case You already code with AI support as a matter of course, ideally with real enthusiasm. For us this is a requirement, because it is how we work every day. Diligence where mistakes cost money or trust: billing, payments, personal data Fluent English. German is a plus. Appetite for a small team with a lot of responsibility and a direct line to the people who use your software Nice to have TypeScript, React, React Native or Next.js, if you also want to work on the frontend App store releases and Expo EAS Google Cloud, Google Workspace APIs, or experience with payment and e-signature integrations Experience in regulated domains such as health, care or fintech WebSockets and real-time features German language skills, since our domain and our specifications are in German What we offer A brand-new system with real room to shape it: two engineers, clear specifications, no decades-old legacy, and plenty of space to keep building Freedom and responsibility from day one, flat hierarchies, no meeting marathons Real social impact: your work helps seniors get support and makes sure caregivers are paid fairly and on time Home office with regular shared days at our Berlin office Several weeks per year of fully remote work, from abroad if you like 30 days of paid vacation A new MacBook with serious power An annual learning budget plus two extra paid learning days An Urban Sports membership Deutschlandticket (Germany-wide public transport pass) Regular team events What happens next Our process is deliberately fast and straightforward, in three steps: a short intro call, a technical interview, and finally a small case study plus meet the team. No need to send us a novel. Your CV, GitHub or LinkedIn profile and a few sentences on why this is exactly your thing are plenty. Compensation The annual salary for this permanent, 40-hour-per-week role is EUR 60,000–70,000 per year. Join us If you match most of these requirements and want to apply your engineering skills to meaningful work, we encourage you to send us your application through the platform. We look forward to reviewing your background and discussing how you can contribute to our team in Berlin. Find Jobs in Germany on Arbeitnow
