Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company with the mission to be the world's most trusted driver. Since its start as the Google Self-Driving Car Project in 2009, Waymo has focused on building the Waymo Driver—The World's Most Experienced Driver™—to improve access to mobility while saving thousands of lives now lost to traffic crashes. The Waymo Driver powers Waymo's fully autonomous ride-hail service and can also be applied to a range of vehicle platforms and product use cases. The Waymo Driver has provided over ten million rider-only trips, enabled by its experience autonomously driving over 100 million miles on public roads and tens of billions in simulation across 15+ U.S. states. The Waymo Safety team works to promote and help to continuously improve the safety of Waymo's fully autonomous driving technology. Our experts develop safety goals and strategies, and conduct safety engineering analyses to ensure safety is being considered throughout the design and development of our vehicles. The team develops and promotes safety strategies and policies for autonomous vehicles for its work with regulatory authorities, lawmakers, law enforcement and public and non-profit organizations.  In this role you will help build Waymo's offboard Field Safety monitoring capabilities, which help to ensure the continued safety of Waymo's vehicles as we expand our operations. As part of Waymo's Field Safety team, you will be involved in the analysis of events and issues affecting Waymo's autonomous vehicles. Inspired by these real-world issues, you will design and build proactive, offboard field monitors, making use of Waymo's latest available AI tools. You will receive direct mentorship from Waymo's Field Safety Architect and other safety leaders to transition cutting-edge academic theory into real-world autonomous fleet safety at scale. This role follows a hybrid work schedule and reports to the Senior Director, Safety. You will: Participate in investigations into driverless events, employee safety concerns, and other potential issues that could pose risks to the safety of Waymo vehicles, analyzing field data to identify trends. Identify opportunities for further offboard field monitoring, then design and build your own monitors, making use of Waymo's latest available AI tools. You have: Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field. This role does not require post-doctoral work experience, and recent Ph.D. graduates are highly encouraged to apply. Hands-on experience developing software for data analysis, system modeling, or simulation. Demonstrated ability to independently write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code (e.g., Python, C++) to build reusable data analysis tools that anticipate the next technical question. Solid grasp of one (and, ideally, multiple) fundamental areas relevant to autonomous vehicle safety including physical system modeling, control theory, vehicle dynamics, sensing, perception, planning, behavior prediction, and machine learning. A natural curiosity to explore novel ways of leveraging data to rapidly answer safety questions arising from field events. Eagerness to network internally and build relationships across diverse engineering teams to trace issues and collect data. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. We prefer: Software experience in autonomy or machine learning. Familiarity with statistical data analysis, quantitative risk assessment, or reliability engineering. Experience working with large-scale datasets, database querying (SQL-like), or building interactive offboard data dashboards. The expected base salary range for this full-time position across US locations is listed below. Actual starting pay will be based on job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for the role location or, if the role can be performed remote, the specific salary range for your preferred location, during the hiring process.  Waymo employees are also eligible to participate in Waymo's discretionary annual bonus program, equity incentive plan, and generous Company benefits program, subject to eligibility requirements.  Salary Range $170,000 — $210,000 USD

As part of a recently public company, you'll have the autonomy and support to make an impact as we build for the long term. About the role: Want to build the data foundation powering AI and self-serve analytics at scale? As part of Samsara's Marketing Data and Analytics (MDA) Engineering team, you will shape the technical roadmap alongside our BI and Data Science peers. You will architect core Databricks pipelines, Gold Layer tables, and semantic models, turning ambitious, ambiguous business challenges into high-value data products, autonomous agents, and cross-functional automation. This role is open to candidates residing in the US. You should apply if: You want to impact the industries that run our world: Your efforts will result in real-world impact – helping to keep the lights on, get food into grocery stores, reduce emissions, and most importantly, ensure workers return home safely. You are the architect of your own career: If you put in the work, this role won't be your last at Samsara. We set up our employees for success and have built a culture that encourages rapid career development, countless opportunities to experiment and master your craft in a hyper growth environment. You're energized by our opportunity: The vision we have to digitize large sectors of the global economy requires your full focus and best efforts to bring forth creative, ambitious ideas for our customers. You want to be with the best: At Samsara, we win together, celebrate together and support each other. You will be surrounded by a high-calibre team that will encourage you to do your best.  In this role, you will: Partner on defining the strategy and multi-quarter roadmap for MDA's data and AI foundation. Architect and own Samsara's marketing data infrastructure: ETL/ELT pipelines, Databricks Gold Layer tables, and the core data models that power segmentation, targeting, automation, and analytics. Design the semantic layers, data dictionaries, and structured documentation that enable self-serve BI and conversational analytics, partnering with the BI team to ensure core sales and marketing KPIs are built on trusted, well-modeled data. Translate ambiguous business questions from Marketing, Sales, and R&D into clear requirements and scalable solutions, working autonomously without dedicated PM support and influencing decisions with data and sound reasoning. Lead complex, cross-team initiatives end to end: stand up new data pipelines and integrations quickly, manage risk across interdependent teams, and own the reliability and data quality of what ships. Serve as the senior technical lead for the team's hardest problems: raise the bar for engineering quality and code review, remove bottlenecks that slow multiple teams, and mentor engineers and analysts.  Drive the strategic use of AI to solve ambiguous, high-impact problems: build AI-enabled data products and agents, with the integrations, retrieval pipelines, and evaluation practices that keep them reliable and trustworthy. Identify and automate manual workflows with AI across Marketing and GTM teams, taking ideas from concept to prototype to production and influencing org roadmaps. Ship high-quality Python and SQL, increasingly by directing agentic coding tools, while holding a high bar for reviewing and verifying AI-generated work before it reaches production. Champion, role model, and embed Samsara's cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices. Minimum requirements for the role: 8+ years of experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, or AI engineering, including deep hands-on data engineering experience. Expert-level Python and SQL, with strong hands-on data modeling and DBT experience. Deep experience with data warehouse and lakehouse architectures, ETL/ELT, and the modern data stack, including hands-on Databricks (or similar, such as Snowflake or BigQuery). Experience building semantic layers and structured documentation optimized for AI ingestion and agentic workflows. Agentic coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor) are part of your regular workflow, and you verify and take ownership of AI-generated output. Experience building, shipping, evaluating, and monitoring LLM or agent systems in production. Track record of leading complex, cross-team data initiatives, including independent requirements gathering with technical and non-technical stakeholders. Experience supporting Marketing, Sales, or Product teams. An ideal candidate also has: Experience working with Databricks and building AI Agents within the ecosystem.  Software engineering background beyond data or AI engineering, with a track record of turning ambiguous, unfamiliar problems into well-architected, delivered solutions. Expertise in data visualization and building dashboards for sales and marketing KPIs. Familiarity with go-to-market data and systems: CRM (e.g., Salesforce), marketing automation, web analytics, and MarTech tools. Experience building interactive applications with Streamlit, Claude workflows, or web frameworks. Data science, machine learning, or predictive analytics experience. About Us At Cloudflare, we are on a mission to help build a better Internet. Today the company runs one of the world's largest networks that powers millions of websites and other Internet properties for customers ranging from individual bloggers to SMBs to Fortune 500 companies. Cloudflare protects and accelerates any Internet application online without adding hardware, installing software, or changing a line of code. Internet properties powered by Cloudflare all have web traffic routed through its intelligent global network, which gets smarter with every request. As a result, they see significant improvement in performance and a decrease in spam and other attacks. Cloudflare was named to Entrepreneur Magazine's Top Company Cultures list and ranked among the World's Most Innovative Companies by Fast Company. At Cloudflare, we're not looking for people who wait for a polished roadmap; we're looking for the builders who see the cracks in the Internet that everyone else has simply learned to live with. We value candidates who have the instinct to spot a "normalized" problem and the AI-native curiosity to create a solution using the latest tools. Our culture is built on iteration, leveraging AI to ship faster today to make it better tomorrow, while ensuring that every improvement, no matter how small, is shared across the team to lift everyone up. If you're the type of person who values curiosity over bureaucracy, and that AI is a partner in solving tough problems to keep the Internet moving forward, you'll fit right in. Available Locations: Austin, TX (US), Lisbon (Portugal), London (UK) About the team Cloudflare Browser Isolation runs web content in remote browsers, helping protect users from threats while preserving a responsive browsing experience. Our team builds the Chromium-based browsing engine, remote rendering and streaming technology, and distributed services that manage browser sessions across Cloudflare's global network. You will work at the intersection of systems programming, distributed systems, and security. Engineers contribute across the product, collaborating on browser changes, service orchestration, observability, and build infrastructure. Scope and growth At this level, you will be accountable for outcomes across a problem area that may span several components. You will establish technical direction, make uncertainty and trade-offs explicit, and help other engineers succeed while remaining hands-on. This is an individual-contributor role; people-management experience is not required. Technologies we use Browser engine: Chromium and C++. Systems programming: Rust. Distributed services and orchestration: Go, TypeScript, Cloudflare Workers, Nomad, and Consul. Remote rendering and streaming: WebRTC and Skia. Browser client: TypeScript, WebAssembly, and WebGL. What you will do Lead complex, multi-component initiatives from problem definition and design through implementation, staged rollout, and measurable production outcomes. Design and implement changes in our Chromium-based C++ browser and the distributed services and systems components supporting remote browsing, working across Go, Rust, and TypeScript. Make and explain architectural trade-offs across latency, availability, resource efficiency, security boundaries, and operational complexity. Investigate difficult cross-layer failures and performance bottlenecks, distinguishing browser, host, network, and control-plane causes. Improve resilience, capacity management, observability, and release safety; define success metrics and validate results. Coordinate work with partner teams, surface dependencies and risks early, and guide delivery through ambiguity. Mentor engineers and raise the quality of code reviews, design reviews, testing, documentation, and operational practices. Participate in the team's production on-call rotation after onboarding, lead technical incident investigations as needed, and drive durable corrective actions. This role may require flexibility to be on-call outside of standard working hours to address technical issues as needed. Desirable Skills, Knowledge, and Experience Strong production C++ proficiency, including memory and resource ownership, concurrency, and debugging in substantial codebases. A track record of independently leading complex systems or distributed-service improvements across multiple components, from an unclear problem to a reliable production outcome. Strong Linux/UNIX and networking fundamentals, with experience diagnosing correctness, latency, and resource-consumption issues using profiling and operational evidence. Experience designing and operating distributed systems, with sound judgment about service boundaries, data partitioning, consistency, timeouts and retries, backpressure, capacity limits, and recovery from partial failures. Experience designing safe rollout and recovery strategies and maintaining production software over its lifecycle. Ability to communicate trade-offs clearly, align stakeholders, mentor teammates, and improve engineering practices through constructive feedback. A willingness to work across C++, Rust, Go, and TypeScript and learn unfamiliar parts of the stack. Bonus Points These are preferred qualifications, not prerequisites. Prior Browser Isolation or Cloudflare experience is not required. Browser engines, Chromium, browser sandboxing, or security-sensitive systems. Who we are Samsara (NYSE: IOT) is the pioneer of the Connected Operations™ Cloud, which is a platform that enables organizations that depend on physical operations to harness Internet of Things (IoT) data to develop actionable insights and improve their operations. At Samsara, we are helping improve the safety, efficiency and sustainability of the physical operations that power our global economy.
