Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the country in which the role is being hired. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa at this time. Mark43's mission is to empower communities and their governments with new technologies that improve the safety and quality of life for all. We build powerful, scalable, and elegant software that sets a new standard for the tools upon which our first responders rely. Our users are diverse, and we are therefore committed to embracing diversity of thought and experience within our team. Our platform is already trusted by major public safety agencies across North America—including Boston, D.C., Seattle, and the California Highway Patrol—and we've expanded into the UK. Now, we're entering an exciting new chapter: Mark43 is building a next-generation AI-augmented engineering team . This is a foundational opportunity to help rethink how software is designed, developed, and delivered using intelligent agentic or related tools. What You'll Do We're looking for a Software Engineer to help lead our AI-enabled engineering initiative. You'll work at the frontier of AI and software development, experimenting with agentic workflows and shaping how AI tools are integrated into every layer of our engineering stack. This isn't just about using AI to autocomplete code—it's about designing and orchestrating systems of AI agents that can plan, write, review, test, and deploy software collaboratively. In essence, you'll play a role akin to a tech lead for a team of intelligent coding agents . You will: Design multi-agent systems with coding-focused agents (e.g., code writer, reviewer, tester, deployer) Write the prompts, logic, and scaffolding that guide each agent's behavior Handle tool use, like enabling agents to access the file system, test runners, version control, and internal APIs Evaluate and refine agents' output, performance, collaboration patterns, and feedback loops If you were on the team last week, you might have: Prototyped a new coding assistant workflow using open-source LLMs and internal knowledge bases Led an architecture discussion on agentic build pipelines or automated PR generation Collaborated with a cross-functional team to build a fast, AI-powered interface for internal tooling Helped define the evaluation framework for AI contributions—accuracy, speed, and impact Mentored a teammate on combining TypeScript and AI tools to accelerate UI prototyping Explored best practices for safely and securely integrating generative AI into a public sector codebase Participated in our on call rotation What You'll Need We're looking for an experienced software engineer who is eager to build smarter systems by pairing technical expertise with emerging AI tools. You should have: 5+ years of professional software engineering experience Proficiency with at least part of our stack: Java, TypeScript + React, and MySQL Extensive applied experience with AI-assisted development tooling—whether it's Cursor, Windsurf, LLM APIs, codegen platforms, vector databases, agentic frameworks like LangChain, or custom-built systems A strong product mindset and interest in building for real-world impact A bias toward experimentation, iteration, and continuous learning Comfort operating in ambiguity and helping define best practices in a rapidly evolving space We're flexible on which tools you've used—we care more about your ability to learn, adapt, and creatively apply AI in practical settings than checking a specific tech box. People Who Thrive on Our Team Also Tend to Be: Humble, open, and curious. You ask questions and seek to understand before making assumptions Collaborative by default. You believe the best outcomes come from shared knowledge and ownership Mission-driven. You care about building tech that serves the public good Comfortable with uncertainty. You're energized by open problems and emerging technologies Growth-oriented. You embrace feedback, learn from setbacks, and look for ways to get better every day Mark43 is approved to hire in Canada, the UK, and 36 U.S. states, including Alabama, Arizona, California (excluding San Francisco), Colorado, Connecticut, Washington D.C., Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Vermont, Washington, Wisconsin, and West Virginia. Senior Software Engineer
KaluzaBristol; Edinburgh; London, Germany6 days ago
Full TimeOn-siteSenior
typescriptgoscalaawsgcpmicroservices+3

Senior Engineer Location: Bristol, London or Edinburgh (hybrid, three days a week in the office) Level: Senior Engineer II (TL1) Team: Engineering Contract: Permanent Reporting To: Software Engineering Manager About Kaluza Kaluza is the Energy Intelligence Platform, turning energy complexity into seamless coordination. We help energy companies overcome today's challenges while accelerating the shift to a clean, electrified future. Our platform orchestrates millions of real-time decisions across homes, devices, markets and grids. By combining predictive algorithms with human-centred design, Kaluza makes clean energy dependable, affordable and adaptive to everyday life. With teams across Europe, Asia and Australia, and a joint venture with Mitsubishi Corporation in Japan, we power leading companies including OVO, AGL and ENGIE, as well as innovators like Volvo and Volkswagen. What you'll do You'll join a technology community of product-focused and data-led product and platform engineers working at scale. We have a diverse ecosystem, spanning TypeScript on AWS, Go on GCP and Scala, we index on product-minded problem solving over language purity. As a Senior Engineer you'll own a slice of the product end-to-end, from design through to production, and you'll build AI coding agents as your default. We're looking for someone whose judgement is worth more than their typing speed. From your first day you'll have paid access to Claude Code, with a budget we don't ration, and access to the systems you need through MCP. Our tools and conventions evolve quickly, and you'll directly impact how we build from here. Own a slice of the product end to end: shape the problem with product and design, build the interface and the services behind it, ship it, and run it in production. Work across the stack over time : depending on the team you'll work across the interface people use, the services behind it, and the APIs between them, in whatever stack your team runs. Build with AI coding agents as your default : Break work down so agents can execute, direct them, and review their output as carefully as you'd review a colleague's pull request. You'll also maintain the tests and safeguards that let agent written code merge safely. Stay close to the people who use what you build: directly or through our forward-deployed engineers: a supplier's operations team, a customer plugging in a car at night. Instrument what you ship so you can see how it's used, and turn what you learn into shipped changes. Make good work the default: shape the codebase, conventions and automated checks so that agents and new teammates produce the right thing without anyone catching it in review. Mentor the team around you: Coach and mentor your peers and help improve how we work and evolve as a team. What you'll bring These are the practices and behaviours we see most in our top engineers and value deeply, but we don't expect everyone to tick every single box. If you're excited by the role and can see yourself thriving here, we'd love to hear from you. Experience shipping production software: You have a depth of experience in either a front-end or back-end of a modern stack, and potentially an openness to stretch across both as you navigate our diverse ecosystem. AI coding tools: You build with tools like Cursor or Claude Code, can walk us through work you've shipped this way and review AI output as rigorously as a colleague's pull request. Able to navigate a complex, high-stakes domain: You keep complex energy logic legible across microservices, knowing exactly when to use sync vs async to prevent cascading failures. Cloud and operational ownership: You're comfortable deploying on major cloud platforms using shared tooling. You fully own your software in production, which includes participating in an out-of-hours on-call rota. Strong product sense. You ask the "why" before building, and you can describe a time when user feedback or metrics changed what you shipped. Clear written communication. You write specs, pull request descriptions and post-mortems with enough clarity and context that either a human teammate or an AI agent can immediately act on them. A multiplier for your team: You mentor peers and proactively shape how the team works; introducing conventions, checks or shared context that makes everyone else's output consistently better. It would be great if you have Experience building tooling around coding agents, such as MCP servers, skills or CI checks Experience in energy, or another real-time or regulated field Our Values Five values guide how we work at Kaluza: Play to win: Collective pride in decarbonising energy at scale. Solve the real problem: Cutting through complexity to focus on real-world outcomes. Build trust every day: Consistency, transparency and doing what we say. Own the outcome: Full accountability, wins and setbacks, without ego. Go further together: Collaboration, respect and different perspectives. Our Perks Time off and family: 26 days' holiday, plus 26 weeks' full pay for new parents with no qualifying service period Health and security: Private medical insurance with virtual GP, life assurance, pension scheme, free mortgage advice and eye tests Pay and flexibility: Discretionary bonus, a Flex Fund of 5% of salary to spend on the benefits you want most, retail discounts through Perks at Work Growth and setup: Personal learning budget, home office budget Climate: Access to Furthr, our climate action app Come as you are We want to meet people from all walks of life. The more inclusive we are, the better our work will be, and we recognise talent on merit and potential. If you're excited about the role but don't tick every box, we'd still love to hear from you. Software Engineer, Backend

About the team Restaurants run on a stack of tools that rarely talk to each other: one for delivery, another for online orders, another for reservations, another for loyalty, and a till that knows nothing about any of them. The same guest can look like three different customers across three different systems. DashOS is DoorDash's platform for fixing that. It connects marketplace ordering, direct ordering, reservations, loyalty, guest management, marketing and point of sale around one shared view of the guest, so every product gets smarter as the others are used. DoorDash launched DashOS publicly at Dash Forward in September 2026, and from 2027 more than 80,000 restaurants on leading POS and middleware partners. DashOS Engineering brings together engineers from across DoorDash, Deliveroo and Wolt into one global organisation, led from London. Our teams cover reservations and guest CRM, digital ordering and omnichannel loyalty, POS and self-order kiosks, AI-powered marketing and Voice AI, and the shared data and integration platforms that connect them. Each team owns its own roadmap. The shared mission is making them work as one system. About the role We're looking for a backend-focused Software Engineer to build the high-performance, highly available services that restaurants depend on every day, from booking a table on a Friday night to recognising a regular the moment they order. You'll work closely with other engineers, product managers and designers, and because DashOS is newly launched, you'll help shape how its products connect rather than inheriting decisions someone else already made. You're excited about this opportunity because you will... Design, build, test, deploy and improve backend services for customer-facing features used by restaurants and their guests in markets around the world. Own features end to end, from technical design through to launch and ongoing support, including taking part in an on-call rotation to keep systems reliable. Work on hard problems in data, latency and scale: unifying guest identity across channels, real-time availability search across thousands of venues, and integrations with the systems restaurants already run. Build on DoorDash's global platform, so the features you ship can reach restaurants across DoorDash, Deliveroo and Wolt markets rather than being rebuilt for each one. Work in a modern engineering environment with frequent daily releases, feature flags and AI coding agents used across code review, deployment and debugging. Partner with engineers, product managers and designers across London and other DashOS locations to decide what to build and how. We're excited about you because... You have 3+ years of professional software engineering experience, and a degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. You've built and operated backend services or web applications in production, with strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms and system design. You're fluent in at least one modern backend language (we mostly use Python), and you're happy to pick up new languages and tools as the platform evolves. You care about the people using what you build, and you take ownership of technical solutions from first design to production. You use AI coding tools as part of how you work, or you're keen to, and you're comfortable reviewing and taking responsibility for what they produce. You enjoy collaborating with cross-functional teams to solve problems that don't have an obvious answer yet. Tech you'll work with Our services are built mainly in Python, with performance-critical systems in Rust, running on Google Cloud and DoorDash's global platform. AI coding agents are part of how we design, review and ship code, so we care more about how you solve problems than about which languages you've used before. You won't need to know every part of the stack on day one. Where and how we work This role is based in our London office at The River Building, on a hybrid pattern of 3 days a week in the office. About SevenRooms In 2011, Joel Montaniel, Allison Page, and Kinesh Patel founded SevenRooms after noticing that hospitality operators were missing a critical ingredient in the systems they were using to run their business: guest data. What began as a mission to help restaurants better understand and serve their guests evolved into a powerful platform used by merchants around the world. With best-in-class tools for marketing, operations, and guest experience — all deeply integrated with its industry-leading CRM — SevenRooms empowers operators to drive revenue, streamline operations, and deliver experiences that keep guests coming back. In 2025, DoorDash acquired SevenRooms to strengthen its in-store strategy and expand its merchant-first offerings. The combination brings together DoorDash's scale, reach, and digital innovation with SevenRooms' in-store capabilities to support hospitality businesses across every channel — from discovery and delivery to on-premise dining. As DoorDash builds out its in-store capabilities, SevenRooms plays a central role in enabling merchants to grow their businesses and connect more meaningfully with guests, whether they're ordering online or dining in. This move reflects DoorDash's broader commitment to empowering local businesses, fostering stronger connections between consumers and the places they love, and building technology that meets merchants — and their customers — wherever they are. Beware of recruitment scams: DoorDash, Deliveroo, and Wolt will never ask you to pay money or share sensitive financial information during hiring — learn more about our legitimate recruiting process at Recruitment Scam Awareness - DoorDash .
