Founding Engineer Role can be based remotely in the EEA or hybrid in our London or Munich offices. Fixed software is the wrong shape for logistics, because every team runs its processes differently. Tare is our solution. Combining agentic AI with deterministic logic means Tare fits to any customer but runs the same way every single time. We have just closed our pre-seed funding round with a top European VC and we are now looking for a founding engineer to build Tare with us. About Tarebase We're Dom and Felix, the two co-founders of Tarebase. Dom is a former SVP at a global unicorn, overseeing tens of millions in global carrier spend, with deep logistics domain experience from Amazon, Nestle and EY. Felix was a founding engineer at Raycast and has spent more than two decades building software systems. We've raised pre-seed funding from a top-tier European VC and are building our MVP together with early design partners, who will become our first customers. As our first employee, you'd have a real say in both the product and the engineering decisions behind it. Logistics is difficult to run well, and experienced people are hard to hire. Smaller businesses often pay too much for shipping, struggle to give customers a good delivery experience, and can't match larger competitors' technology or hiring budgets. The software available to them is often expensive, dated or too cumbersome. We want to make logistics less of a burden so these businesses can spend more time selling their products. They're the customers we want to build for: Europe alone has around 26 million SMEs, employing more than 100 million people. Just putting a chat interface and GPT-wrapper on top of the problem is not what we're building. We're combining extraction and analysis, workflow automation, agentic and compiled AI with deterministic, verifiable logic. Recent advances in AI make more of this possible, but building a system that does it reliably is still hard. We're looking for someone who wants to advance the state of the art in this area with us. About you The description below is an ideal, not a checklist. If you don't tick every box but feel ready for the challenges of being the first engineer at an early-stage startup, we'd still like to hear from you. What matters most to us is that you're motivated, committed, willing to stick with hard problems, and someone we can count on. You have a strong technical background and a track record of building and shipping software systems, whether that's cloud backends, web applications, AI-supported systems or a mix of these. You enjoy working across engineering and product. You think like a product engineer: you care about UX/UI, and you want direct contact with customers and the people who use what you build. You'll work mostly in Rust and TypeScript, across the full stack: data engineering, AI, backend, frontend, infrastructure and deployment. We especially value experience with either language from before AI coding tools and a solid understanding of its ecosystem so you can make considered choices. We also value experience operating distributed systems and data-intensive systems in the cloud, including multi-tenant environments and the scaling and security challenges they bring, databases, and durable execution runtimes. You use coding agents effectively, but stay close to the code. You know their limitations in a large codebase, review and challenge their work, and take testing, debugging, refactoring and documentation seriously. You can design useful tests and evaluations, manage complexity, and tell when something is genuinely ready to ship. You also enjoy digging into challenging problems. You keep up with what current models, agent harnesses and research make possible, and you can judge what actually works for a given use case. You know how to build agents and AI workflows into a product and use evaluations, validation and deterministic logic to make what they produce consistent and verifiable. You're comfortable extracting structure from messy documents and care a lot about data quality. You experiment, measure the results, question your assumptions, and keep going until you've found a solution that really holds up. You can turn that work into shipped software, taking a product idea or technical direction through design and implementation without waiting for someone to assign you a ticket. We work remotely, so clear communication and follow-through matter a lot to us. We value people who manage their own work, can be counted on, and raise important issues early. How to apply Apply with the button on this page. Please ensure to use a hand-written CV. We read every application ourselves. It's fine to use tools for spelling or translation, but we want to hear your voice. Our process The process should take a few weeks from start to finish depending on your availability. Application review. If we love your resume we will send over some short questions. Intro call with Dom and Felix. An informal conversation about the role, the technology and what you're looking for. Technical deep dive with Felix. We talk briefly about a system you've worked on (no need to share anything confidential), then work through a system design problem together. Half a day with us in Munich or London. We cover your travel, hotel if needed, and meals. You spend about two hours on a made-up task similar to the problems we work on, using your usual tools and coding agents. Then we have lunch, go through your work together, and talk through a customer scenario. References and offer. We speak with 1-2 people you've worked with (only with your agreement) and aim to decide within 48 hours. If we don't move forward after the technical conversation or later, we'll share some feedback with you. Compensation : €100.000–120.000 base salary plus 0.75–1% equity Setup: A MacBook Pro and whatever else you need to work well. If you'd rather not work from home, we'll pay for a coworking space near you. Location : Munich or London, or remote within Europe (GMT-1 to GMT+3) with regular meet-ups. About Edra Edra is solving one of the hardest problems in enterprise AI: AI models are generic but company processes are specific. We build AI agents that learn how processes actually run, and then run their operations. We're a Series A startup, backed by Sequoia and other leading VC firms, led by Co-Founders who created and led Forward Deployed AI Engineering at Palantir, and we're growing our team in New York and London. We're a deeply technical team of engineers, AI researchers, and strategists with a high bar for talent and a shared belief that exceptional people are the foundation of everything great we'll build. The Role We're looking for a Site Reliability Engineer to join our infrastructure team as the second-in-seat hire. Our team ships fast enough that we're starting to hit GitHub's rate limits, and infrastructure has to stay a month ahead of that. You'll be in key engineering meetings to ensure our infrastructure is ready before anyone asks, and to catch any decisions that may become infrastructure problems later. This is not a ticket queue. You'll decide what gets built, push back when a managed service already does what someone wants to hand-roll, and invent when no pattern exists. You'll also write real software, not just the infrastructure code underneath it. We run containerized workloads on AWS and GCP, defined in infrastructure as code, with Postgres underneath. Some of our early infrastructure was built quickly before anyone owned it full-time. Part of the job is untangling that while keeping the team moving. What You'll Do Own our cloud infrastructure end to end: provisioning, security, reliability, and the infrastructure as code that defines it. Stay ahead of the engineering roadmap and have infrastructure ready before features land, working directly with the founders on where the infrastructure goes next Find where developers are waiting and remove the wait, whether that's CI, deployment, or environment spin-up. A person sat waiting is the most expensive thing we run, so rational spend on velocity is always on the table Run the reliability practice: monitoring, logging, and alerting that fails loudly with a clear signal, and the response when it does Lead large infrastructure builds and own our product security posture Make the build-vs-managed-service call, and hold the line when the simpler path is the right one Read and write Python well enough to see the infrastructure implications of what the team's building and catch problems before they land Own AI model safety and the governance of agentic processes. The team leans on agents for repetitive work, and you make sure nothing unsupervised can act on production infrastructure Hand capability to others, and support the team cross-functionally: build the tooling that lets engineers, GTM, the AI team, operations, and compliance do without you what today requires you Keep current across cloud and model providers so that when an engineer brings a new announcement, you have a credible answer What We're Looking For 5 to 10 years in infrastructure, SRE, DevOps, or platform engineering Deep, recent experience running production workloads on AWS or GCP, defined in infrastructure as code. A wide toolkit with one or two areas you go deep on. You won't know every service, and we expect you to learn fast Python you've written in anger, in or alongside application code Postgres in production, and containerized workloads running under an orchestration platform A security instinct: you think about vulnerabilities continuously and patch constantly Evidence that you've held down an infrastructure function alone or in a very small team Work you can point to where you found an ambiguous problem, designed the fix, and made other people faster as a result Comfort saying no to senior people when the infrastructure demands it rBonus Points GCP experience, especially migrations or multi-cloud rollouts CloudWatch and GitHub Actions in your current stack Time in a technical support or application support role earlier in your career An engineering career that started outside software Work in a niche domain where no standard tooling existed and you had to build your own Don't meet all of the above? We'd still love to hear from you. We're looking for exceptional people with unique skills and interests, and we know that great people have different backgrounds and skillsets. Classically trained or self-taught, we don't mind, as long as you learn fast. Learn More About Edra Watch our Series A announcement video Read our blog post from our launch Learn more about what we're building Our founders point of view on the market Compensation & Benefits Edra offers generous compensation and benefits in both New York & London: Competitive base salary & meaningful equity Top tier health, dental, & vision plans: Top plans with 100% premium coverage in the US (and a One Medical membership) Private medical & dental coverage in the UK Flexible paid time off Lunch provided in office most days, snacks & drinks too A stipend to set up your workspace A Few Details We work together in person five days a week from our offices New York and London. Edra is an equal opportunity employer and we encourage applications from individuals of all backgrounds. Edra does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, genetic information, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, veteran status, or any other legally protected characteristic. What you'll do Own and evolve our AWS environments and shared platform infrastructure, focusing on reliability, scalability, and ease of use for product teams. Design and build opinionated, self-service tooling that makes it easy for engineers to build, deploy, and operate services correctly. As a senior engineer, you are expected to bring prior experience operating and evolving production platforms at scale. You'll use your judgement to make trade-offs, anticipate failure modes, and help the team avoid repeating past mistakes. Learning is encouraged and supported, but you should be comfortable operating independently after onboarding and sharing lessons from real-world experience. Requirements Proven track record of owning and operating web platforms in production at scale. Strong experience with AWS in a production environment. Experience defining meaningful metrics, monitoring, and alerting for web platforms, with a strong intuition for actionable vs noisy signals. Experience working with platform-level security controls and observability, including identifying and responding to abnormal or unsafe system behaviour. Experience designing and operating continuous delivery systems that support safe, repeatable, zero-downtime deployments. Experience responding to production incidents in an on-call environment and improving systems based on what you learn. Comfortable with command-line tools and environments. Proficient with at least one programming language used for automation or tooling. Enjoy solving complex, cross-cutting problems in collaboration with engineers across the organisation Comfortable working in a fast-moving environment with evolving requirements and priorities. Enjoy mentoring and sharing knowledge within the team and the wider engineering organisation. This role includes a shared, out-of-hours on-call rotation after an initial onboarding period.
