Track adoption and health metrics for the design system (usage, satisfaction, migration progress) and use them to inform roadmap priorities. Build relationships with teams that consume the design system, gathering feedback and making sure their needs shape the roadmap . Support the team's experiments with AI-assisted design-to-code workflows and developer tools. Balance innovation with delivery commitments. What You Bring Previous experience managing engineering teams that build and maintain design systems, component libraries, or similarly widely-consumed shared UI or platform infrastructure. Experience running delivery cadence - sprint planning, quarterly planning, roadmapping, and outcomes for a team that serves many internal stakeholders. Working knowledge of frontend engineering (React, TypeScript, component architecture) sufficient to make credible technical tradeoffs alongside your Tech Lead and engineers. Experience hiring, developing, and retaining engineers, with a track record of growing people into more senior roles. Robust stakeholder management skills. Comfortable sharing the roadmap , tradeoffs, and risks with engineering, design, and product leaders. A track record of balancing platform and foundational investment against the urgent feature requests of consuming teams. Deep written and verbal communication skills, with experience working in a distributed, async-first team. Experience using data and adoption metrics (usage, satisfaction, migration progress) to inform roadmap decisions. A collaborative leadership style that earns trust from your engineering team without needing to be the most technical person in the room. ClassDojo 's goal is to give every child on Earth an education they love. We started by building a powerful network for communication. ClassDojo's flagship app is the #1 communication app connecting K-12 teachers, children, and families globally. Teachers use it to share what's happening throughout the day through photos, videos, and messages that make parents feel like they're there. It's actively used in over 95% of US schools, reaching over 45 million children in 180 countries, with a team of just around 200 people [1]. We are now beginning to use this network to give kids the best learning experiences in the world, far beyond those a standard school can provide. We hire for talent density. Our team comprises the most talented, entrepreneurial, and innovative teammates from around the world, with experience in education and large scale consumer internet companies, including Instagram, Netflix, Dropbox, Stripe, Uber, Y Combinator, and more. We're building a company where the most talented people want to work. We believe you'll do the best work of your life here—and you'll pioneer the future of education, too. About the Role: Every feature ClassDojo ships begins with an engineer. Every minute an engineer spends waiting on builds, troubleshooting local environments, repeating manual workflows, or navigating unnecessary complexity is a minute they aren't building magical experiences for children, teachers, and families. Developer Experience Engineering exists to remove that friction. As a Senior Software Engineer, Developer Experience, you'll build the tools, workflows, and AI-powered developer experiences that make every engineer at ClassDojo more effective. This is a unique opportunity to join a newly formed Developer Experience Engineering team and help define what great developer experience looks like at ClassDojo. Rather than inheriting a mature platform, you'll help shape its foundations—partnering closely with engineers across the company to identify opportunities, build high-leverage solutions, and establish trusted paved paths that make shipping software faster, safer, and more enjoyable. We're looking for someone who combines exceptional software engineering with product thinking. You'll treat engineers as customers, build products they'll genuinely enjoy using, and focus relentlessly on creating leverage across the engineering organization. What You'll Do: Build products for engineers: Design and build internal platforms, tooling, and developer workflows that improve the experience of developing, testing, reviewing, deploying, and operating software. Multiply engineering productivity : Identify opportunities where thoughtful platform investments create outsized impact across the engineering organization. Continuously reduce developer friction while improving engineering velocity, quality, and reliability. Help shape AI-native software development: Build practical AI-powered workflows that help engineers write, review, test, and ship software more effectively. Evaluate emerging technologies thoughtfully and help establish patterns that improve outcomes while maintaining security, reliability, and engineering quality. Partner deeply across engineering : Work closely with product engineering, infrastructure, security, and technical leaders to understand pain points, prioritize opportunities, and build platform capabilities that solve real problems. Create trusted paved paths : Build reusable tools, automation, documentation, and self-service capabilities that become the preferred way engineers work because they're intuitive, reliable, and genuinely useful. Measure impact : Use engineering metrics, developer feedback, and adoption data to continuously improve the developer experience. Focus on meaningful outcomes rather than activity metrics. Help build Developer Experience Engineering : As an early member of the team, contribute to technical direction, engineering standards, and the long-term evolution of Developer Experience Engineering at ClassDojo. You'll Be A Match If You: Have extensive experience (7-10+ years) building production software in modern engineering organizations. Enjoy solving organization-wide engineering problems rather than only product-specific challenges. Think like a product engineer even when building internal platforms. Demonstrate strong technical judgment and know when to build, simplify, automate, or adopt existing solutions. Thrive in ambiguity and are excited by the opportunity to help build a new Platform Engineering team. Build trust through partnership and influence rather than organizational authority. Care deeply about engineering craftsmanship, maintainability, and long-term platform health. Approach AI as a practical tool for improving engineering effectiveness rather than an end in itself. Measure success through the impact your work has on other engineers. Nice to Have Experiences: Developer Experience or Platform Engineering teams. Internal developer platforms or engineering productivity initiatives. CI/CD, release engineering, developer environments, or software delivery systems. AI-assisted software development or developer tooling. Engineering productivity measurement frameworks such as DORA or SPACE. High-growth engineering organizations where platform investments had organization-wide impact. Developer Experience Engineering is a force multiplier for the entire organization. Every improvement you make has the potential to help engineers build better software, move faster with greater confidence, and spend more of their time focused on creating meaningful experiences for children, teachers, and families. If you're energized by solving hard technical problems, building products for engineers, and creating systems that make everyone around you more effective, we'd love to meet you. As IT Lead you are ClassDojo's IT function; owner & operator, reporting to the CTO, covering identity, devices, SaaS, security operations, vendors, and our AI platforms for roughly 350 people. The function already runs on automation and AI-assisted triage rather than effort. You inherit it with a documented handover, keep it efficient, make it your's, make it better, and make it legible to people who are not you. What you'll do: Own identity and the employee lifecycle: Okta, Google Workspace, and an HRIS-driven pipeline where access changes fire automatically with an audit trail the systems produce. Own a Mac-first MDM fleet at near-100% coverage, passwordless authentication at 100%, and assist response on security incidents. Run and own IT operations end to end: onboarding, offboarding, support, and the AI triage and self-service that handle most of it, treating repeat request as a defect to remove. Govern a 50+ tool SaaS stack, the IT budget and vendors. Apply governance for Claude and ChatGPT accounts, use AI and automation to take manual work out of IT. Keep IT-owned SOC 2 controls audit-ready with evidence that comes from the systems. You will be a match if: You have owned and operated IT alone at 200+ staff, including identity in Okta, Google Workspace, and Slack, and a HRIS-driven lifecycle that ran unattended. You have owned a production Mac fleet under MDM, including a migration or baseline rebuild You have administered ChatGPT and Claude (or comparable) for a company, use them daily, and have built automations that replaced manual IT work with a measurable result. You automate by default: script, API, log, admin console, and you can automate entire request categories. You have practical security judgment and have worked inside a SOC 2 environment. You support people directly and well, and can quote your own support numbers. You write documentation people follow and explain technical decisions to executives in two sentences. You have an ownership mindset and do not wait for perfect requirements or handoffs. You live in the US, East or West Coast, and can travel to San Francisco. Bonus - You have experience with: AWS IAM Identity Center and Terraform, or other config-as-code you could apply to Okta and Google. Office buildouts, BYOD policy rollouts, international contractors, Windows and ChromeOS [1] Some more context: (If you are on LinkedIn, you will not be able to access the hyperlinks below. At Dscout , we're building the most flexible and powerful UX research platform on the market—trusted by the world's top brands in finance (JP Morgan Chase, Intuit, Charles Schwab, PayPal), healthcare (Aya, Headspace), consumer goods (Keen, Verizon, Target, Northface), and tech (Google, Amazon, Facebook, Meta, Spotify, AirBnB). Our tools help teams deeply understand the humans behind their products, so they can build better ones. We are expanding our smart and driven team and would love for you to join us. Our Platform: Our mobile apps are Swift and Kotlin. Our frontend is built with React. Our backend uses Elixir and increasingly more and more Python. GenAI has significantly impacted our system architecture, requiring us to adapt and evolve. We are in the midst of a shift from existing products augmented with AI to a full AI-first platform. You Are: A Mobile Principal Software Engineer who will lead our mobile team and evolve it to meet the shifting demand of a full AI-first platform — on a timeline measured in weeks, not quarters. You're deeply hands-on with AI coding agents, and you've used them to ship serious work, not just autocomplete. You're as comfortable architecting a thin mobile client backed by a powerful API as you are dropping into our Python backend (with AI assist) to add what mobile needs. You'll shape our participant experience across mobile with heavy influence on the web too. You're deeply product focused, energized by solving business problems, not just writing code. You ask "why" before "how," and you partner with Product and Design as a peer — shaping problems, not just taking specs. You know when to ship a scrappy prototype to test an assumption versus when to invest in a foundation built to last, and you can explain that call to a PM or designer. You can hold multiple projects in your head at once, spotting where they'll collide, depend on each other, or share a chance for reuse. You bring Principal/Staff-level scope as a product engineer — 10+ years of experience evolving apps and standing up new ones across product and technical dimensions. You have a proven track record of leading technical improvements and mentoring other developers, as collaboration and empathy are cornerstones of our culture. You thrive setting your own direction with minimal input while staying aligned to company goals. Most of all, you're energized by the prospect of doing in months what used to take years. If this sounds exciting, we'd love to hear from you. The Job Working hours Availability 9:30 AM - 5:00 PM CT Dscout is a US-based company, and while working these core hours is expected in this role, we know that from time-to-time life happens and we can be flexible to meet your needs. What you will do: Lead our mobile team and its continued maturity and evolution in this AI-native space Stand up an AI-native development process for the mobile team — agents, evals, review loops — that sustains that pace beyond the rewrite Drive a thin-client architecture for the participant experience, pushing business logic to the backend so the apps stay simple Contribute Python to our AI backend service when mobile needs new capabilities — using AI agents to do it efficiently Set our participant API and broader participant platform direction beyond the mobile team Spend about 70% of your time supporting your product team; the other 30% on self-directed leadership tasks and platform improvements Drive continuous process improvement across the mobile team and its partner teams Mentor other engineers and help evolve the Engineering org Apply a DevOps mindset to improve the Continuous Delivery pipeline and other operational aspects of our SaaS & mobile platform Be involved in security and compliance efforts for the organization (we are SOC II & HITRUST certified) What you need to have: Significant experience as a mobile software engineer with Principal/Staff-level scope (titles aren't important — we care about what you've shipped and led) Experience with iOS and Android, and a willingness to work outside the mobile ecosystem when the problem calls for it Hands-on experience with AI coding agents (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, or similar) — not just autocomplete — and an opinion on how to design an SDLC around them Experience in system architecture to supplement mobile experience (backend API design, databases, mobile devops), how it all fits together, and design trade-offs A proven track record of leading, mentoring, and growing engineers Expertise with cloud-based SaaS architectures and evolutionary design At home with agile, DevOps, CI/CD, observability/tracing, and data/metrics-based decision making Of course, what is outlined above is an ideal set of expectations; however, business needs and other projects and tasks may shift, and additional tasks could be assigned at the discretion of your manager.
