Backend Engineer (m/f/d)
Full TimeOn-siteMid€60,000 - €70,000 / Year
pythontypescriptreactnext.jsfastapigoogle cloud+10

Python, FastAPI and PostgreSQL in a system we built entirely ourselves. Full stack welcome. Berlin or nearby, hybrid. Full-time, permanent. Start: as soon as possible What this is about Careship helps families find reliable support in everyday life: all across Germany, through self-employed caregivers and our own employed caregivers. Behind both stands a platform we built entirely ourselves, live since August 2026: a Python backend, an internal staff portal, an app for customers and an app for caregivers. The system covers everything from the first inquiry to payroll: matching, scheduling, care budgets, billing with care insurance funds, payment processing and digital contracts, plus email, chat, WhatsApp and phone calls in one inbox. It is live, it runs the operations of two companies, and it grows every week. This is why we are looking for the second person in our permanent engineering duo. Your role You work as one of two engineers on our system, with a focus on the Python backend: data model, business logic, APIs and the integrations our operations run on. If full stack is your thing, the rest is open to you: the staff portal in Next.js and our two apps in React Native. You share responsibility and cover for each other, in everyday work and during vacations. You build features from the data model through the business logic to the finished API endpoint, and all the way to the screen if you want. You work on core topics like the budget engine, billing, the payroll pipeline and matching. Logic where diligence really counts. You maintain code in production that real people use every day: our operations team, caregivers, and customers with their families. You work directly with product and the tech lead, no layers in between. Requirements arrive as fully worked-out specifications from our knowledge base, not as two-line tickets. You get freedom and real responsibility: the system is brand new, much of it is taking shape right now, and you help decide where it goes. The roadmap includes shift planning, analytics, a marketing module and an ambassador platform. Our stack Backend: Python 3.12, FastAPI, SQLAlchemy 2, Alembic, PostgreSQL, on Google Cloud (Cloud Run, Pub/Sub, Cloud Storage) Portal: Next.js 16, React 19, TypeScript, MUI, TanStack Query, generated OpenAPI client Apps: React Native with Expo, shipped through the app stores Integrations: Google Workspace (Gmail, Calendar, Meet), Auth0, Aircall, WhatsApp and DATEV, plus payment and e-signature providers How we work: AI-assisted. Specifications, code and reviews are created with AI support, as our everyday standard, not as an experiment. What you bring At least 3 years of experience in professional product development, more is a plus Solid Python experience in production, ideally with FastAPI and SQLAlchemy or comparable frameworks Confidence with relational databases and SQL, PostgreSQL in our case You already code with AI support as a matter of course, ideally with real enthusiasm. For us this is a requirement, because it is how we work every day. Diligence where mistakes cost money or trust: billing, payments, personal data Fluent English. German is a plus. Appetite for a small team with a lot of responsibility and a direct line to the people who use your software Nice to have TypeScript, React, React Native or Next.js, if you also want to work on the frontend App store releases and Expo EAS Google Cloud, Google Workspace APIs, or experience with payment and e-signature integrations Experience in regulated domains such as health, care or fintech WebSockets and real-time features German language skills, since our domain and our specifications are in German What we offer A brand-new system with real room to shape it: two engineers, clear specifications, no decades-old legacy, and plenty of space to keep building Freedom and responsibility from day one, flat hierarchies, no meeting marathons Real social impact: your work helps seniors get support and makes sure caregivers are paid fairly and on time Home office with regular shared days at our Berlin office Several weeks per year of fully remote work, from abroad if you like 30 days of paid vacation A new MacBook with serious power An annual learning budget plus two extra paid learning days An Urban Sports membership Deutschlandticket (Germany-wide public transport pass) Regular team events What happens next Our process is deliberately fast and straightforward, in three steps: a short intro call, a technical interview, and finally a small case study plus meet the team. No need to send us a novel. Your CV, GitHub or LinkedIn profile and a few sentences on why this is exactly your thing are plenty. Compensation The annual salary for this permanent, 40-hour-per-week role is EUR 60,000–70,000 per year. Join us If you match most of these requirements and want to apply your engineering skills to meaningful work, we encourage you to send us your application through the platform. We look forward to reviewing your background and discussing how you can contribute to our team in Berlin. Find Jobs in Germany on Arbeitnow

Senior Backend Engineer, VGo Carrier Technology
Full TimeOn-siteSenior
gorubyrailsjenkinskafkaarchitecture+3

Brief info about Vinted Our mission is to make second-hand the first choice, and we're looking for people who want to help us get there. Every day, we work together to help our members buy and sell pre-loved clothing and lifestyle items, giving each piece a second life – or even a third. The Vinted Group is made up of three business units that support this mission: Vinted Marketplace is Europe's leading platform for second-hand fashion and a go-to destination for all kinds of pre-loved items, with a growing range of categories. Our platform connects millions of members across 20+ markets, helping great items find a new life. Vinted Go enhances the shipping experience with a vast network of over 500,000 pick-up and drop-off points, partnering with more than 60 carriers across Europe, with added services like item verification for peace of mind on high-value pieces. Vinted Pay is the newest part of the Vinted Group, dedicated to bringing secure, reliable payments to buyers and sellers across Europe. Seamlessly integrated into the Vinted app, it helps keep every transaction safe, efficient, and easy for our members. Founded in 2008 in Lithuania, Vinted began as a way for friends to find new homes for clothes they no longer needed. In 2019, we became Lithuania's first unicorn! Today, our headquarters remain in Vilnius, and we've grown with offices across Europe, supported by a team of over 2,000 people. Information about the position As Senior Backend Engineer in the Vinted Go Carrier domain, you will build backend systems that move parcels through Vinted Go's own logistics network, between hubs and through warehouses, quickly, reliably and at scale. You'll join Vinted Go, the logistics arm of Vinted, focused on making shipping more affordable, convenient, and reliable. Your team, Pacman , owns mid-mile logistics and warehouse operations automation: how parcels are routed and transported between hubs, and how they are received, labelled, and dispatched. We're looking for a strong engineer who also makes the engineers around them better: someone who leads the team's hardest technical problems and actively shares what they know, so the whole team grows with them. In this position, you'll Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs that power mid-mile transport and warehouse operations. Own technical initiatives end to end, from problem framing and system design through delivery, monitoring, and iteration, and lead projects that span the team or the wider domain. Make architecture and trade-off decisions with a 6–12 month horizon, balancing scalability, reliability, maintainability, and tech debt. Help evolve our core service, a large Ruby on Rails modular monolith, towards clearer module boundaries and well-defined APIs. Collaborate with Product, Operations, Decision Science, and neighboring engineering teams to shape discovery, sequencing, and implementation, and align on contracts and dependencies through RFCs and technical discussions. Actively share knowledge: give thoughtful code reviews, pair on hard problems, walk the team through complex changes, and keep documentation useful. Help onboard new team members, mentor engineers informally, and trust others with meaningful work while supporting them to succeed. Work with a backend stack that includes Ruby, Vitess, Kafka, Jenkins, Elastic, and observability tools; you do not need to know all of it upfront. Take ownership of service reliability, alerts, metrics, SLOs, and incident follow-up, including participation in on-call rotations. Take part in hiring by interviewing candidates and helping raise the bar. Use AI tools thoughtfully to improve your development workflow and help the team move faster. About you 5+ years of backend engineering experience, with a track record of building systems and owning work from design through production. Solid experience with Ruby, or the ability and motivation to learn Vinted's backend stack quickly. Good understanding of API design, database-backed systems, observability, and operating services in production. Works independently on problems of diverse scope, and is someone teammates turn to for advice on difficult technical matters. Pragmatic problem solver who balances delivery speed, reliability, and long-term maintainability. Comfortable working with ambiguity and breaking complex product or operational problems into clear technical steps. Genuinely enjoys sharing knowledge and mentoring others, and sees raising the team's engineering standards as part of the job. Gives direct, useful feedback, seeks it in return, and builds alignment across teams. Collaborative and clear communicator who works well with engineers, product managers, operations, and non-technical stakeholders. Excellent written and spoken English. Advantage: experience with logistics, warehouse management, fulfillment, or operational workflows; integrating software with physical devices; or modularizing a large monolith. Work perks The opportunity to benefit from our share options programme 25 working days of holiday Access to all the tools & tech needed for work Home office support: we provide IT workstation equipment and a personal budget of up to €540 for home workplace furniture Private health insurance Pension plan with flexible contribution options and a matching contribution from Vinted Confidential Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for you and your family Frequent team-building events A personal monthly budget for shopping on Vinted A dog-friendly office In Vilnius office: Gym & in-house meals at friendly prices In Kaunas office: a monthly lunch allowance, and a once-a-week provided in-house lunch and breakfast Working at Vinted Workation policy Better balance holidays with workdays by working remotely! Up to 90 days per year in the EU, of these, 21 days can be spent globally. For non-EU citizens, it's 21 days worldwide. This can be combined with time off for vacation or personal time. Individual learning budget Each year, you'll be given a learning budget (starting at €3,000), and a total of up to 10 working days over a 2-year period to support your personal and professional development. Hybrid work Our hybrid model, with 2 recommended office days a week, gives you and your team the flexibility to decide if and when you want to work from home, and when to catch up in person. Equal opportunity We welcome applications from everybody, regardless of your background, identity, or life experiences. Job openings come with guides, not checklists. If you're excited about a role, but don't identify with every point in the 'About you' section, apply anyway – you might still be the perfect match!
