About Singular Photonics: Singular Photonics is a fast-growing fabless semiconductor start-up, developing Single-Photon Avalanche Diode (SPAD) sensors that bring advanced computation directly into imaging. Our sensors enable innovations across LiDAR, fluorescence lifetime imaging (FLIM), spectroscopy and time-resolved optical measurements, powering next-generation solutions for customers worldwide. Based at Orchard Brae House in Edinburgh, we are a close-knit team at the forefront of the photonics revolution. About the Role: We are seeking an FPGA Firmware Engineer to join our multidisciplinary R&D team. This is an FPGA role: you will design, implement and verify the Verilog firmware that powers our SPAD sensors, captures photon timing data at high rates and streams it to the host. Our sensors generate data faster than most imaging systems ever see, so the interesting problems here are real ones: clock domain crossing, timing closure and getting data off the device without losing a photon. You will work alongside our hardware, ASIC and software engineers, from architecture through to system bring-up and customer deployment. You will report to the Lead Firmware Engineer. Key Responsibilities: Architecture: Define FPGA requirements and architecture for SPAD sensor readout, in discussion with the hardware, ASIC and software teams. RTL Design: Implement, verify and debug Verilog modules for data acquisition, photon timing, histogramming and sensor control. Verification: Design and run simulations and testbenches, with coverage sufficient to trust the design before it reaches hardware. Synthesis & Timing: Own synthesis, constraints, clock domain crossing and timing closure on AMD-Xilinx FPGA family devices in Vivado. High-Speed Interfaces: Build and integrate the high-speed interfaces that move sensor data: PCIe, USB3, Ethernet, AXI interface, MIPI, LVDS, SLVS, Camera Link. Bring-Up & Debug: Lead firmware bring-up on new boards and sensors, debugging with oscilloscopes, logic analysers and in-system probes. Source Control & Build: Keep RTL under version control with a repeatable, automated build, and document designs to the standard our ISO 9001 design control process requires. Reviews & Support: Contribute to design reviews, and support the software team and customers during field integration. Experience & Skills: Essential: Strong proficiency in Verilog, and a solid grounding in RTL design, synthesis and timing closure. Hands-on experience with AMD-Xilinx Vivado and its toolchain. Experience writing your own testbenches and verifying a design in simulation before hardware. Experience bringing up firmware on real hardware and debugging it in the lab. Experience with at least one high-speed interface or bus at RTL level. Comfortable in a small company where priorities shift and everyone pitches in. Working with complex, existing codebases and seamlessly integrating new functionality with minimal disruption. Desirable: SystemVerilog, and verification practices beyond directed testbenches. Comfortable working in Linux operating systems. Exposure to any of PCIe, AXI interface, USB3, Ethernet, MIPI, LVDS, SLVS or Camera Link. C, C++ or Python for embedded software integration and test automation. Experience with image sensors, time-of-flight, TDCs or single-photon detection. Familiarity with PCB design tools such as Altium Designer, and reading schematics during debug. Educational Background: Degree in Electronics Engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. 2-5 years' experience in FPGA and digital design. Key Attributes & Behaviours: Rigour: Disciplined about verification - you would rather find it in simulation than on the bench. Debugging: Systematic when the fault could be in the RTL, the board or the sensor, and comfortable with the instruments that tell you which. Clarity: Writes documentation and code that colleagues can pick up without you in the room. Collaboration: Works well across the hardware, ASIC and software boundaries rather than only inside the FPGA. Ownership: Takes a problem from architecture through to a working system, and sees it through. Adaptability: Comfortable in a fast-paced, evolving environment where the requirement can move. Success Indicators: Firmware that meets timing and functions correctly on first hardware more often than not, with issues found in simulation rather than on the bench. Effective bring-up and debugging support during prototype validation and customer deployment, with hardware and firmware issues resolved promptly. Design documentation, simulation coverage and design review contributions good enough for another engineer to maintain the work. Benefits of Joining Singular Photonics At Singular Photonics, we are committed to fostering a rewarding and supportive environment for our team. As an FPGA Firmware Engineer, you will benefit from: Pension: 5% company contribution. Share Options: Participation in the Company EMI Share Option Scheme, so you share in the growth you help build. Enhanced Annual Leave: 35 days paid annual leave per year, inclusive of UK public holidays. Hybrid Working: Primarily office-based, with flexibility to work remotely up to two days per week (full time worker). Career Growth: Work on silicon and systems few engineers get near, with the chance to shape how we do FPGA development as the team grows. Additional Benefits: [Cycle to work and private medical insurance (once implemented) Why Join Us This position offers a rare opportunity to work at the forefront of SPAD sensor technology, driving innovation and shaping future applications in photonics and imaging. At Singular Photonics you will be part of a passionate, close-knit team, where the work you do is visible in the product and in the hands of customers. Location & Work Environment Based at Orchard Brae House, Queensferry Road, Edinburgh. This is a full-time, permanent role. The work is hands-on with hardware in our lab, so it is primarily office-based, with flexibility to work remotely up to two days per week. Right to work in the UK is essential. We are unfortunately unable to offer visa sponsorship for this role. Equal Opportunities Singular Photonics is an equal opportunities employer. We welcome applications from all qualified candidates and make appointments on merit, regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy or maternity, race, religion or belief, sex or sexual orientation. If you need any adjustments to the application or interview process, please let us know and we will do what we can to accommodate you. Find Jobs in United Kingdom on Arbeitnow

About Codat Codat is an advisory intelligence solution purpose-built for modern commercial banking. Through rich, specialized data, forward-looking insights, and integrated workflows, Codat empowers banking teams to deepen their relationships, grow their revenue, and simplify their day-to-day work. Founded in 2017 and backed by JPMorgan, PayPal, Amex, Plaid, and Shopify, Codat has successfully powered over 350,000 connections to business customers' financial systems — and is trusted by industry leaders to turn scattered information into actionable, strategic advantages in real time, every time. The Role We're building the Advisory Intelligence Platform: Codat's client intelligence delivered inside the assistant a banker already uses (Microsoft Copilot first). Ask it anything about a client and it answers from the client's real books. Don't ask, and it still tells you what's changed, why it matters and what to do about it. Under it we're building the semantic layer, so every answer uses the same definitions, the signal layer that spots what's changed for a client, and the reasoning layer, a Codat-side LLM that turns those signals into advice. The first bank goes live this year. You'll be building the data and reasoning behind all of it. This is a hands-on job for software engineers who want to build the systems a model reasons over, not configure a warehouse. Codat is AI-first, not AI bolted onto SaaS. The product lives inside the AI assistant our clients already use, and we build it the same way: agents do the repetitive work, engineers do the hard parts. You'll build it and you'll run it. Nobody hands it over the wall once it's live. You'll also get a real say in where it goes next. That means making your case to engineers, product and the commercial team, and bringing them along with you. What You'll Work On The semantic layer. Measures, dimensions and definitions the model is allowed to use, so every answer it gives is the same answer. Yours to grow, persona by persona. The signal layer. Detecting what's changed for a client and surfacing it before the banker asks. You'll be designing and building this. The reasoning layer. A Codat-side LLM that turns signals into advice. Our calculations are the ground truth it reasons over. You own the calculations the model relies on, and the names, definitions and structure that let it pick the right one. The agents and MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers behind the assistant. What tools it has, how they're built, how they fail, and the evals that prove they work. Everything from raw source data to the number the assistant quotes: the pipelines, services and data models, with the testing and observability to prove the number is right and the evals that catch the model quoting the wrong one. You'll Probably Have Built production systems from scratch, writing the code yourself rather than configuring managed services. You think about interfaces, failure modes and how the next person will change your code. If we ask about the hardest system you've built, you'll have a story ready. Served data to an LLM and seen where it goes wrong: ambiguous definitions, poor retrieval, no evals. You know why "the model will work it out" isn't a data strategy. Worked with data along the way, and liked it. You may never have been called a data engineer. You've built things that move, shape and serve data, and you know how they break, and how a model breaks on top of them. Solid C#, Python or another backend language. Your code comes with tests, and you leave things tidier than you found them. Depth in at least one of SQL, Spark, Databricks/Delta Lake, Dagster/Airflow/Temporal or dbt. Bonus if you've shaped any of them into something a model can query, through a metrics layer, metric views or an MCP server. Time with CI/CD, Docker, cloud infrastructure (we're on Azure) and observability. Even better if you set them up for a team. An interest in the business behind the data. If someone asks for a number the data can't support, you'll say so, and you'll build the guard-rail so the model says so too. Treated your own workflow as something to engineer. AI has already taken over the repetitive parts of it, and you're the person others ask how to do the same. How We Work We're a small team with plenty to do. Things move fast: we'd rather ship something useful and improve it than polish it in private. What you build is yours from start to finish. There's no return-to-office mandate, and you can work hybrid or fully remote. We trust you to be around when the team needs you and to deliver what you said you would. What we don't want is anyone staying online late to prove a point. Who we are Samsara (NYSE: IOT) is the pioneer of the Connected Operations™ Cloud, which is a platform that enables organizations that depend on physical operations to harness Internet of Things (IoT) data to develop actionable insights and improve their operations. At Samsara, we are helping improve the safety, efficiency and sustainability of the physical operations that power our global economy. Representing more than 40% of global GDP, these industries are the infrastructure of our planet, including agriculture, construction, field services, transportation, and manufacturing — and we are excited to help digitally transform their operations at scale. Working at Samsara means you'll help define the future of physical operations and be on a team that's shaping an exciting array of product solutions, including Video-Based Safety, Vehicle Telematics, Apps and Driver Workflows, and Equipment Monitoring. As part of a recently public company, you'll have the autonomy and support to make an impact as we build for the long term. About the role: Samsara interns dive into challenging, real-world projects with the same freedom and responsibility as our full-time engineers. You won't just be learning; you'll be building and making a tangible impact on our global customers from day one. You'll join a team working at a scale few engineers encounter early in their careers: millions of IoT devices deployed globally, petabytes of real-time data, and software that directly affects the safety of people doing some of the most essential work in the world. You'll be paired with an Engineering mentor, get rare exposure to customers, and have visibility to engineering leadership throughout your internship. You'll also have access to the latest AI tools, with generous token allotments, giving you the leverage to ship more and learn faster. At Samsara, interns can work on a wide range of high-impact engineering challenges across our connected operations platform. Depending on the team, an intern may help build the backend infrastructure that powers our IoT platform, scaling data ingestion and storage systems that support over 15,000 hardware assets and tens of thousands of customers around the world. They may also work across the full stack, creating intuitive user experiences that turn data into actionable insights, while partnering closely with product and design to rapidly iterate on features that deliver real customer value. On the mobile side, an intern could help strengthen the infrastructure behind our React Native app, enabling feature teams to move quickly and build performant, maintainable products. For those focused on embedded software, projects may include building and maintaining software that runs directly on Samsara hardware, spanning areas like edge AI, multimedia frameworks, power management, and real-time data processing in demanding real-world environments. Throughout the interview process, we will dig into your past experience, what you are most interested in learning next, and where you would be the best fit across our engineering teams. Our engineering teams use Golang for backend development, TypeScript and React for the web client, GraphQL for data access, and React Native for mobile development. Direct experience with this exact stack is not required, but experience with similar technologies is strongly encouraged. You should apply if… You want to impact the industries that run our world. The software you build will help keep the lights on, get food into grocery stores, and - most importantly - ensure workers return home safely. You want to build for scale. You'll work on technology that powers physical operations at a scale most engineers never experience. You believe customers are more than a number. Our engineers are deeply invested in our customers and the daily problems they face. They visit customers in person to understand not just how Samsara helps them today, but where our products need to go next. You'll participate in customer interviews, collaborate with success and product teams, and use metrics to ensure your work translates into real outcomes. You're curious and self-driven. You challenge yourself outside of class - hackathons, side projects, tearing apart how something works just because you want to understand it. You move fast, embrace new technology, and treat learning as constant. You're drawn to hard problems and own them end to end. You dig into complexity, research it thoroughly, and find the simplest solution that works - then see it through, holding yourself to a high standard along the way. You're AI-forward. You've woven AI into how you work, whether that's accelerating debugging, drafting code, or exploring unfamiliar problem spaces faster. You're quick to experiment and always looking for smarter ways to build. You're a collaborator. You work well independently and across cross-functional teams, and you're motivated by winning together, not just individually. Minimum requirements for the role: Currently in your penultimate year of study (or second-to-last year of an integrated Master's / MEng), on track to complete a Bachelor's or integrated Master's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Software Engineering, Physics, or Data Science, with expected graduation no earlier than Summer 2028. This internship is a full-time, paid experience — interns are expected not to be enrolled in school or university full-time while working at Samsara. In your application Include your CV / résumé. Answer all of the application questions. We're reviewing applications on a rolling basis, and we expect to finalize our cohort by late November/early December. Applications will close October 30th at 6:00pm (UK). Please do not email us to inquire about the status of your application. We know that applying for internships can be time-consuming, and we truly appreciate your effort. We're looking forward to learning more about you through your application. Total Rewards At Samsara, we build for the people who keep the global economy moving. We want owners, not passengers, which is why our rewards are designed to fuel high-impact builders. Our compensation program delivers above-market total compensation through a combination of base salary, performance-based bonus/variable pay, and equity (for eligible roles) in a high-growth public company. We meaningfully differentiate pay for our top performers, who have the opportunity to earn above-market compensation that can outpace the broader market over time. Beyond compensation, we provide the foundations that enable long-term success: a flexible, employee-led remote model, a professional development stipend, comprehensive health and parental leave plans, and more. If you're ready to build for the long term and own the outcome, your journey starts here. Flexible Working At Samsara, we embrace a flexible working model that caters to the diverse needs of our teams. Our offices are open for those who prefer to work in-person and we also support remote work where it aligns with our operational requirements. For certain positions, being close to one of our offices or within a specific geographic area is important to facilitate collaboration, access to resources, or alignment with our service regions. In these cases, the job description will clearly indicate any working location requirements. Our goal is to ensure that all members of our team can contribute effectively, whether they are working on-site, in a hybrid model, or fully remotely. All offers of employment are contingent upon an individual's ability to secure and maintain the legal right to work at the company and in the specified work location, if applicable. About the role: Are you a recent or upcoming graduate ready to launch your career at the forefront of industrial IoT? Join us and help shape the future of connected operations. You will immediately dive into challenging, real-world projects with the freedom and responsibility of a full-time engineer. We believe in providing a greenfield opportunity for growth and a high degree of ownership from day one. You will build and innovate, making a tangible impact on our global customers. You'll also have access to the latest AI tools, with generous token allotments, giving you the leverage to ship more and learn faster. At Samsara, New Grads can work on a wide range of high-impact engineering challenges across our connected operations platform. Depending on the team, a New Grad may help build the backend infrastructure that powers our IoT platform, scaling data ingestion and storage systems that support over 15,000 hardware assets and tens of thousands of customers around the world. They may also work across the full stack, creating intuitive user experiences that turn data from millions of devices into actionable insights, while partnering closely with product and design to rapidly iterate on features that deliver real customer value. On the mobile side, a New Grad could help strengthen the infrastructure behind our React Native app, enabling feature teams to move quickly and build performant, maintainable products. You should apply if: You want to impact the industries that run our world. The software you build will help keep the lights on, get food into grocery stores, and - most importantly - ensure workers return home safely. Minimum requirements for the role: Current Senior pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related technical field, with an expected graduation date in 2027. This is a full-time, remote OR in-person hybrid role requiring 3 days per week in our London, UK office and 2 days working remotely. Applications will close October 30th at 6:00pm (UK) Total Rewards At Samsara, we build for the people who keep the global economy moving. The following education, experiences and skills are essential for application: Background in Computer Science, Software Engineering, AI, Data Science, or related technical undergraduate degree. A genuine passion for AI, Large Language Models, and Generative AI. Not just as a user, but with curiosity about how they work and how to build with them. Proficient in Python, with hands-on experience writing scripts, working with APIs, or building small applications – whether through coursework, personal projects, or hackathons. Familiarity with cloud concepts or services (preference for AWS), containerisation (Docker), or REST APIs – even if only at an introductory or project level. A proactive, self-directed learning style – able to research unfamiliar technologies, synthesise documentation, and form a view on trade-offs with limited guidance. Good communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical colleagues, and to work effectively in a small, fast-moving team. A collaborative, team-oriented mindset, with the confidence to contribute ideas, ask questions, and engage actively with engineers, data scientists, and business users. An organised approach to work, with attention to detail, a strong sense of ownership, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment. Comfortable working with ambiguity and rapid change, with the resilience to iterate quickly, adapt to new findings, and thrive in a technology landscape that evolves week to week. In addition, the following criteria is not required, but highly desirable for this role: Foundational knowledge of energy trading markets, including core concepts like balancing mechanism operations, Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), and Virtual Power Plants (VPPs). Prior exposure to LLM frameworks such as LangChain, LlamaIndex, or similar; experience with vector databases (e.g. pgvector, Pinecone, Chroma); or familiarity with AWS Bedrock, SageMaker, or equivalent managed AI services. Experience with version control (Git) and basic understanding of CI/CD pipelines or infrastructure-as-code (e.g. AWS CloudFormation, CDK). Understanding of prompt engineering techniques, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), or multi-agent system design patterns. Participation in AI/ML hackathons, open-source contributions, personal projects involving LLMs or automation, or active engagement with the AI development community (e.g. Hugging Face, GitHub, LangChain forums). Portuguese as a second language. What we offer Competitive compensation and participation in Engelhart's discretionary bonus plan. 28 days of annual holiday entitlement plus Berlin public holidays. €3,000 per year contribution to a private pension scheme on your behalf. €20 monthly subsidy towards BVG tickets. €25 monthly subsidy towards ClassPass membership. A subsidy for German language courses to help you immerse yourself in the local culture. A sociable working environment with an open, international culture. We believe in inclusivity and are therefore dedicated to ensuring all employees – across gender identity, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion, life experience, background and more – feel welcome and included in the company.
