Senior Android Engineer
Medium
MediumUSA (Fully Remote)6 days ago
Full TimeFully RemoteSenior$165,000 - $215,000 / Year

About Medium Medium is one of the world's most influential writing platforms, connecting millions of readers with ideas that matter. We're a small, dedicated team that cares deeply and takes real ownership of the problems we tackle, moving fast while building something that lasts. Our actions and decision-making are guided by four principles : Humans First, Deepen Understanding, Orient for Impact, and Ladder Together. About the Role We're looking for a Senior Mobile Engineer to help build and evolve the Android experience that millions of readers and writers rely on every day. You'll own Android features end to end. That means digging into what users actually need, building it, shipping it, and paying attention to how it actually performs once it's out in the world. You'll work closely with our design team the whole way through. This is a product engineering role at heart. We don't have a dedicated product team, so you won't be handed a fully-specified ticket and told to go build it. Rather, you'll be the one figuring out what's worth building in the first place, partnering with design and other engineers, and making good calls when the ask is vague or doesn't quite solve the real problem. Android is where you'll spend most of your time, but we want someone who can also hold their own on at least one other platform, whether that's web, iOS, or backend. That range matters: it means you can see how a feature fits into the bigger picture, make good calls about where logic should live, and work credibly with whoever owns that other platform. What You'll Do Own Android features end to end. Understand the problem, build it, ship it, and see how it actually does Shape what gets built, not just how it gets built. Push back on scope, propose simpler solutions, and raise platform constraints early rather than after the fact Write idiomatic, well-tested Kotlin and Compose UI that fits naturally into the team's existing architecture Work directly with iOS, web, or backend engineers depending on what a feature needs, and help decide where functionality should live Partner with our leadership team, design team, and engineers in the US and France to turn a rough idea into something that actually ships well on Android Bring superb judgment to ambiguous requests. You can ask good questions, spot edge cases early, and propose reasonable first steps when the full scope isn't clear yet Own shaping product and feature spaces, maintaining and driving a sense of forward momentum even when the final destination of your work may not be clear Help raise the bar for the mobile team on code quality, testing, and product thinking Attend Medium's twice-yearly, in-person offsites (hosted in locations around the U.S.) What You Have You've spent several years building production Android apps and you're genuinely fluent in Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, coroutines and Flow, and modern Android architecture You're an expert with all things Android engineering, but you can also hold your own on at least one other platform (web, iOS, or backend) and can work credibly there when a feature calls for it You think like a product engineer. You don't just build what's asked, but can own and appreciate the impact at a product impact altitude of your work. You understand the problem underneath the request, push back when something doesn't add up, and care about whether it actually worked once it shipped You've worked closely with designers and engineers on other platforms before. You're good at explaining a technical tradeoff in a way that actually lands for someone who isn't an engineer You have good instincts about systems, you're adaptable, and you're genuinely eager to learn. You can advocate for an approach while staying open to a better one. We care a lot about collaboration and psychological safety here. We want someone who adds to it You have the ability to push forward in ambiguity and make great trade off decisions to keep a project moving Nice to Haves Experience using AI to improve a team's leverage, reach, output and impact You've owned product direction yourself rather than just executing someone else's plan You personally use Medium and are genuinely excited to contribute to its mission, which is empowering humans to write meaningfully for other humans Benefits In addition to the new skills you'll pick up, here's what else you'll enjoy by working at Medium: Working with a fully distributed team: We're fully remote and have teammates across the U.S. & France Healthcare benefits covered at 100% for employees and 80% for dependents Generous parental leave policy Mental health support through Spring Health (or find a provider through Rula or Kaiser Mental Health Network) Financial wellness support through Northstar Stipends for co-working, professional development, wifi, and a one-time home office bonus Unlimited PTO and standard company holidays A discounted Medium membership Why Medium We're a small team doing meaningful work. Beyond guiding your team's execution, you'll have real influence over engineering strategy, culture, and direction. You'll work alongside people who are genuinely good at what they do and who care about building something worth building. At Medium, inclusion, diversity, and equity are core to how we work and what we build. We believe a more inclusive team creates a better product—one that's intuitive, thoughtful, and serves a wide range of users. We strive to foster a supportive, fun, and challenging environment where people from all backgrounds can thrive. We welcome applicants from all walks of life and strongly encourage those from historically underrepresented groups to apply. Our hiring process is built to ensure fairness and equal opportunity for everyone. Even if your experience doesn't match every requirement, we'd still love to hear from you—your perspective and passion matter more than checking every box. About Anthropic Anthropic's mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems. About the role Our Strategic Deals team originates, structures, negotiates, and closes the deals that secure the compute Anthropic uses to train and serve frontier AI systems. We work closely with engineering, infrastructure, finance, legal, product, and go-to-market teams to expand Anthropic's access to cloud capacity, silicon, networking, and the financing behind them. We are hiring several Strategic Deals Leads focused on compute and infrastructure. In this role, you will source opportunities, design partnerships, and negotiate high-value agreements with some of the world's largest technology companies, and you will connect deal terms to structured finance solutions. Your work will directly shape how quickly and reliably Anthropic can bring new compute online. Each hire will bring deep expertise in one or more of these areas while working across the broader infrastructure stack: Cloud compute: building and running a pipeline of capacity across established and emerging cloud providers, and structuring the financing that connects capacity commitments to their economics. Compute infrastructure: going deep into the silicon supply chain, structuring co-development and early-access deals with semiconductor and emerging hardware companies, and securing networking, backbone, and memory supply. Compute partnerships: owning multi-year partnerships with the largest cloud providers, where compute commitments, financing structures, model availability on partner platforms, marketplace and co-sell arrangements, and pricing and revenue-share constructs are negotiated together. Key responsibilities Own deals end to end in your focus area, from opportunity identification and term sheet development through diligence, negotiation, internal approval, close, and post-close execution Lead negotiations for complex, high-value agreements with hyperscalers and other cloud providers, semiconductor and hardware suppliers, networking and memory vendors, data center operators, and emerging infrastructure companies Bring capital markets and financing thinking to every transaction, including vendor financing, equipment leasing, capacity prepayments, project finance, and credit and residual value guarantees Build financial models, term analyses, and commercial frameworks that compare supply options and give leadership a clear view of value, tradeoffs, and risk-adjusted outcomes Partner with engineering and infrastructure teams to understand future workload requirements and translate them into long-term supply strategies and commercially viable deal terms Build and own senior relationships with commercial, finance, product, and legal counterparts across the AI infrastructure ecosystem Drive internal alignment with legal, finance, engineering, product, and go-to-market teams on deal terms, risk parameters, and the approval path for large commitments Track market, technology, competitive, and financing developments across AI infrastructure, including supply constraints, and turn them into clear recommendations for senior leadership Represent Anthropic externally with corporate executives, investment banks, and infrastructure investors involved in our transactions Minimum qualifications A track record of originating, structuring, negotiating, and closing complex, high-value technology, infrastructure, or capacity transactions as the principal and lead negotiator (not in a supporting or advisory capacity) and the ability to operate independently from day one Transactional experience in at least one focus area: cloud capacity or data center transactions, semiconductor and hardware supply (accelerators, CPU, memory, or networking, including backbone), or hyperscaler and cloud partnerships Working knowledge of how large infrastructure commitments are financed, such as vendor financing, take-or-pay obligations, equipment leasing, or project finance, and the ability to shape financing terms alongside commercial terms Financial modeling skills to build and pressure-test the economics of large infrastructure transactions Experience developing term sheets and negotiating definitive agreements alongside legal counsel Ability to work with technical teams and translate engineering requirements into deal structures, contract terms, and strategic business recommendations Experience negotiating agreements that combine infrastructure or capacity terms with commercial, product, or go-to-market terms, and an understanding of how those components interact Experience building partnerships and influencing senior stakeholders across internal and external organizations, including executive leadership Preferred qualifications 8–10+ years of experience in strategic deals, corporate development, partnerships, investment banking, or business development at technology companies, hyperscalers, cloud providers, or financial institutions, with direct transactional ownership Direct experience working with or inside a hyperscaler on AI or cloud partnerships, including familiarity with model gardens, marketplaces, co-sell programs, and partner economics Experience managing multiple high-value transactions simultaneously at different stages of maturity and commercial development Comfort operating in fast-moving, ambiguous environments where market structures, provider economics, and partnership norms are still evolving A genuine interest in the future of AI infrastructure and in Anthropic's mission of building safe, beneficial AI   We're hiring for several roles on this team. Apply once, and we'll match you to the focus area that best fits your background. The annual compensation range for this role is listed below.  For sales roles, the range provided is the role's On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. Annual Salary: $265,000 — $325,000 USD Logistics Minimum education: Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience Required field of study:  A field relevant to the role as demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience Minimum years of experience: Years of experience required will correlate with the internal job level requirements for the position Location-based hybrid policy: Currently, we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time. However, some roles may require more time in our offices. Visa sponsorship:  We do sponsor visas! However, we aren't able to successfully sponsor visas for every role and every candidate. But if we make you an offer, we will make every reasonable effort to get you a visa, and we retain an immigration lawyer to help with this. We encourage you to apply even if you do not believe you meet every single qualification. Not all strong candidates will meet every single qualification as listed.  Research shows that people who identify as being from underrepresented groups are more prone to experiencing imposter syndrome and doubting the strength of their candidacy, so we urge you not to exclude yourself prematurely and to submit an application if you're interested in this work. We think AI systems like the ones we're building have enormous social and ethical implications. We think this makes representation even more important, and we strive to include a range of diverse perspectives on our team. Your safety matters to us. To protect yourself from potential scams, remember that Anthropic recruiters only contact you from @anthropic.com email addresses. In some cases, we may partner with vetted recruiting agencies who will identify themselves as working on behalf of Anthropic. Be cautious of emails from other domains. Legitimate Anthropic recruiters will never ask for money, fees, or banking information before your first day. If you're ever unsure about a communication, don't click any links—visit  anthropic.com/careers  directly for confirmed position openings. How we're different We believe that the highest-impact AI research will be big science. At Anthropic we work as a single cohesive team on just a few large-scale research efforts. And we value impact — advancing our long-term goals of steerable, trustworthy AI — rather than work on smaller and more specific puzzles. We view AI research as an empirical science, which has as much in common with physics and biology as with traditional efforts in computer science. We're an extremely collaborative group, and we host frequent research discussions to ensure that we are pursuing the highest-impact work at any given time. As such, we greatly value communication skills. The easiest way to understand our research directions is to read our recent research. This research continues many of the directions our team worked on prior to Anthropic, including: GPT-3, Circuit-Based Interpretability, Multimodal Neurons, Scaling Laws, AI & Compute, Concrete Problems in AI Safety, and Learning from Human Preferences. Come work with us! Anthropic is a public benefit corporation headquartered in San Francisco. We offer competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and a lovely office space in which to collaborate with colleagues. Guidance on Candidates' AI Usage:  Learn about  our policy for using AI in our application process.
