Staff Software Engineer, Storage Platform

Staff Software Engineer, Storage Platform

WayveLondon, United Kingdom13 hours ago
Full TimeOn-sitePrincipal
pythongoawsazuregcpterraform+11

Before the detail, here's the challenge you'd help us solve. We build the embodied intelligence that moves real vehicles safely, and the ecosystem a billion machines will run on in the future. Very few people in AI can say this. Every role here, whatever the team, plugs into that. Here's what this particular role covers. 🛠️ About our AI Platform Teams Our AI Platform teams build the infrastructure that powers Wayve's embodied AI. We store and serve hundreds of petabytes of driving data, growing towards exabyte scale, to support model training, simulation and data pipelines across regions and clouds. As our first dedicated Staff Software Engineer for Storage Platform, you'll set the technical direction for how we manage, protect and serve this data. Working closely with Infrastructure, Security, Privacy, Data Engineering and ML teams, you'll help make training more efficient while reducing one of Wayve's largest infrastructure costs. 🧠 Your day-to-day Lead a hands-on, multi-quarter storage programme, from defining the problems and architecture to delivering platforms that teams adopt. Build production services, controllers and infrastructure using Python, Go or a similar language, alongside Kubernetes and Terraform. Partner with ML and data teams to understand access patterns, remove storage bottlenecks and reduce the time GPUs spend waiting for data. Work with Security and Privacy to strengthen access controls, auditing and safe deletion of vehicle-collected data. Write design documents and RFCs, align teams around shared standards, and mentor engineers as the platform and team grow. 🧩 What you'll be working on Data ownership and governance: Give datasets clear owners, purposes and retention classes, with tagging and team-level cost attribution. Safe lifecycle management: Build retention, deletion and re-tiering capabilities for Azure Blob, backed by dry runs, audit trails and recovery paths. Read performance and caching: Improve throughput and latency by tackling small-object reads, throttling, unnecessary data access and cross-region hops. Secure data movement: Design Kubernetes-native NVMe caching and secure replication across regions and clouds. Measurable platform outcomes: Establish standards, dashboards and SLOs for availability, performance, cache effectiveness, storage tiers and cost. 🙌 You should apply if You've operated at Staff Engineer scope, leading complex infrastructure programmes across multiple teams from problem definition through adoption. You've owned petabyte-scale object storage end to end—including data layout, lifecycle management, performance and cost—with measurable outcomes against a cost target. You've built scalable systems for data ownership, tagging, cataloguing, retention or deletion. You bring strong security and access-management experience, including IAM/RBAC, encryption, secure replication and auditing. You're a hands-on software engineer with strong Python, Go or comparable skills, plus production Kubernetes, Terraform and CI experience. You build durable platforms and services, not just one-off scripts. You can influence technical decisions without formal authority, mentor others and are excited to start in a founding, hands-on role with the opportunity to grow a team. You can work on a hybrid basis from our London office. Experience with AWS or GCP is welcome—you don't need to have worked exclusively with Azure. 🌱 Not ticking every box? That's totally okay! If you're passionate about autonomy and keen to learn, we encourage you to apply even if you don't meet every requirement. More about Wayve: 🚀 Wayve is building the leading AI platform for autonomous driving. We are pioneering an end to end AI approach that enables vehicles to learn directly from real world experience, developing the ability to adapt, generalise and improve at scale. Instead of relying on hand coded rules or pre mapped environments, our AI Driver learns to drive by understanding the world around it. The result is technology that navigates complex urban environments with intelligence, precision and natural flow, unlocking meaningful advances in both safety and efficiency. We believe autonomy represents a once in a generation transformation in how people and goods move, comparable to the shift from horses to cars, and from human driven vehicles to intelligent machines. Our ambition is to make autonomy universal. Wayve's mapless and hardware agnostic AI platform integrates with global OEM partners, enabling continuous software evolution and unlocking advanced levels of automation from L2 plus through to L4 as our core AI model scales. In a race increasingly defined by intelligence and real world learning, Wayve is taking a distinct approach, building a generalisable driving intelligence that can power any vehicle, anywhere. By combining embodied AI with scalable deployment, we are creating technology that can be shaped to each OEM brand and driver experience, accelerating the transition to a safer, more intelligent future of mobility. How we work 💻- Locations & Flexible Working: Our main hubs are in London, Sunnyvale, Yokohama, Herzliya, Vancouver and Leonberg. We operate a hybrid working model that combines in-person collaboration in our dedicated office spaces with focused time working remotely. This gives our teams the connection and energy of working together, alongside the flexibility to do their best work in a way that fits their lives. 🔍 The Interview Process: Our process is clear and respectful of your time: Initial call / recruiter screen (30 mins) - A conversation with our Talent Partner about your experience, interest in the role and practical details. Competency Interviews (60 mins) - A programming interview to assess your hands-on software engineering skills. Deep-dive technical interviews - A system design interview and a domain-specific interview with the Hiring Manager, exploring your storage experience, technical leadership and approach to the role. Final interview (30 mins) - Mission & values alignment We'll always explain the format and work around your availability. What's in it for you (Location dependant): 💰 Salaries benchmarked against the market annually 📈 Meaningful equity, sharing in the ownership and long term success of Wayve ✈️ Relocation support and visa sponsorship where applicable ✅ Hybrid working, core hours and the chance to work hands on in vehicle workshops and labs 📚 Learning and development budgets with support for training, conferences and growth 🩺 Comprehensive benefits including health insurance, dental, enhanced maternity and paternity leave, retirement or pension where applicable, access to therapists, wellbeing partnerships, team socials and more A quick, honest note before you apply. Wayve is not a mature, fully-structured place with the playbook already written. Much of how we work is still being written, and if you join, you'll help write it. That suits people who want real ownership more than people who need a settled structure from day one. If that sounds like the kind of problem you want to spend your time on, we'd really like to hear from you. At Wayve we're committed to creating a diverse, fair and respectful culture that is inclusive of everyone based on their unique skills and perspectives, and regardless of sex, race, religion or belief, ethnic or national origin, disability, age, citizenship, marital, domestic or civil partnership status, sexual orientation, gender identity, veteran status, pregnancy or related condition (including breastfeeding) or any other basis as protected by applicable law. For more information visit Careers at Wayve. To learn more about what drives us, visit Values at Wayve DISCLAIMER: We will not ask about marriage or pregnancy, care responsibilities or disabilities in any of our job adverts or interviews. However, we do look to capture information about care responsibilities, and disabilities among other diversity information as part of an optional DEI Monitoring form to help us identify areas of improvement in our hiring process and ensure that the process is inclusive and non-discriminatory. Golang Backend Engineer, Financial Product Fraud
Full TimeOn-siteMid
pythonjavagokotlinrailsnode.js+7

Our Global Structure Deliveroo is now part of DoorDash, bringing together teams with even greater reach, scale, and ambition. Depending on your role, you may collaborate with teammates, systems, and leaders across DoorDash and Wolt. Together, we're unlocking new possibilities as one global team. Your job is to make sure every payout and transaction lands with the right person. We have spent years getting very good at protecting the things a marketplace has always had to protect: checkout fraud, account takeover, courier abuse. But we are no longer only a marketplace. We now issue banking products, lend to merchants, move instant payouts to couriers, and collect cash on the doorstep. Every one of those is a new way for money to leave the platform. This is a new team, and it owns that surface: fraud wherever money moves through the platform. Who receives it, who lends it, who collects it, and who holds it in a financial account. Think instant payout rails, merchant cash advances, and platform-issued banking and earned-wage products serving millions of couriers and merchants. These are live loss surfaces, and the volume grows with every financial product we launch. We are now looking for a Backend Engineer (Golang) to build that protection. You will design and ship real-time detection and automated enforcement for our financial products across DoorDash, Wolt, and Deliveroo. The work is high-throughput, low-latency, and unusually consequential: a rule you ship on Monday can stop a serious loss by Friday. It is also close to greenfield, so you will be setting the patterns every future financial product inherits on day one. This role will be based in London , UK as one of the founding engineering roles in our London hub, working closely with our teams in Helsinki and Berlin. What you'll do: Build and maintain high-throughput, low-latency backend services in Go that score financial events in real time, including payout enrollments, bank account links, credit applications, and account-to-account transfers. Design fraud detection and automated enforcement for our financial products end to end: from signal collection through to the decision that blocks a fraudulent payout. Build on and extend our shared fraud decisioning platform, so signals, rules, and models work across all three of our brands instead of being rebuilt three times. Partner closely with risk analysts, data scientists, and product managers to turn observed fraud patterns into shipped detection, and to know when a rule, a model, or a product change is the right answer. Work across team boundaries with our account security, payments fraud, and financial product teams. We build on their signals rather than rebuild them, so clean interfaces matter. Contribute to architectural discussions and technical decisions as we establish the fraud infrastructure baseline for financial products, with support from senior engineers on the team. Write well-tested, observable code and help the team hold a high quality bar. In fraud, a silent failure is a loss event. Our expectations: 3 to 6 years of professional software engineering experience, including backend services you have shipped and owned in production. 1+ years of production experience in Golang, or strong experience in another backend language and real enthusiasm for picking Go up quickly. A working understanding of low-latency, high-throughput distributed systems. Real-time decisioning comes with a latency budget, and you are keen to learn to build inside one. Hands-on experience with SQL and/or NoSQL databases, and some exposure to event-driven architectures (Kafka or similar). Willingness to operate what you build, including a share of on-call, with a pragmatic approach to reliability. Uses AI tooling in day-to-day development and can critically evaluate its output for correctness and quality. Nice to have Experience in fraud, risk, payments, lending, or financial crime, especially money movement fraud, bank account linking fraud, payout abuse, or lending fraud. Experience with rules engines, real-time feature stores, or ML model serving in a decisioning path. Background in Kotlin, Java, Python, or Node.js alongside Go. Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP). Experience working across multiple brands, regions, or regulatory regimes. What we value A product-oriented mindset. You think beyond the ticket, understand the "why" behind the work, and take a high level of responsibility for outcomes rather than output. Comfort with ambiguity. This is a new team on a new surface; parts of the charter are still being drawn, and you will help draw them. A track record of owning a project or feature end to end, especially in fast-paced environments. Clear and proactive communication, with a collaborative spirit. We work across three companies and several time zones, so we move fast, but we succeed together. An adversarial instinct. The best fraud engineers enjoy thinking like the attacker. Diversity, Equity and Inclusion At Deliveroo, we know that a great workplace reflects the world around us and that true diversity and inclusion make us stronger, more creative, and better at what we do. We're committed to fostering an environment where everyone can do their best work and feel they belong. We believe in equality of opportunity and welcome candidates from all backgrounds regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, socio-economic background, religion, or belief. If you have a disability or long-term health condition and need support to apply for one of our roles, or require any reasonable adjustments during the recruitment process, you'll have the opportunity to let us know once you've submitted your application. We'll share details on how to request support so we can ensure you have a fair and equitable experience. Senior Software Engineer (Data & Platform)
Full TimeOn-siteSenior
pythonrgcpterraformdockerci/cd+15

The Role: Our growing team is looking for a senior software engineer to lead the evolution of the infrastructure that turns our science into trustworthy climate results. In this role, you'll own the platform that takes our data, models and estimation methods from R&D to auditable client deliverables, and you'll be a trusted reviewer and guide across software and data engineering. As a small team, you'll also shape how we build our geospatial pipelines and internal analytics. We're looking for someone who has designed and run data-intensive systems in production, makes sound architectural calls, and raises the bar for the engineers around them. You'll work closely with fellow software and data engineers, data scientists and solutions engineers, turning research code into robust, reproducible infrastructure. You will join a cross-functional, mission-driven team dedicated to bringing transparency and integrity to climate action. Impact you'll own: Shorten the path from experiment to production: own how models and estimation features move from research into reproducible, auditable client deliverables, with data, models and environments versioned end to end. Own our developer platform and engineering standards: environments, containers, project templates, CI/CD and pipeline orchestration across a multi-repo Python stack. Own our GCP infrastructure: architecture, infrastructure-as-code, monitoring, cost and access management, and its evolution as the company grows. Shape our geospatial workflows: how we store and process vector and high-resolution raster data at scale, and how the databases behind our models and deliverables evolve as we scale. Be the key reviewer for core and pipeline infra: write design docs for your own areas and review those of others, keeping our architecture coherent as the team grows. Raise the bar across engineering: mentor other engineers, and support our software & data engineering team with feedback and guidance on design and architecture. Over time, coordinate our infrastructure development goals: set priorities and align work across software and data engineering. What you bring: 6+ years of experience in engineering roles, including significant time designing and running data-intensive backend systems and pipelines in production A track record of owning systems end to end: you've made architectural decisions and lived with their consequences, written and reviewed design docs, and mentored other engineers Expert Python and strong SQL, with solid experience designing schemas and data models for production systems Hands-on experience with workflow and pipeline tooling (e.g. Airflow, Dagster), experiment tracking and data versioning Hands-on experience running production cloud infrastructure, ideally GCP; infrastructure-as-code (e.g. Terraform/OpenTofu), IAM, as well as containers and reproducible environments (e.g. Docker, devcontainers) Deep experience across the software development lifecycle (Python packaging, containers, testing strategies, CI/CD, observability) and opinions on how to do it well Clear, direct communication with both technical and non-technical colleagues, and strong motivation to contribute to sustainable development through technology A degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience What makes you stand out: Production experience with raster data and geospatial pipelines Experience building model serving, model registries or other MLOps tooling (e.g. DVC, MLFlow) Experience building BI or dashboarding tooling (e.g. Streamlit) for non-technical users Experience with data warehouse design (e.g. BigQuery, PostgreSQL, dbt) and data engineering workflows Previous exposure to earth observation, environmental monitoring or soil science data Benefits you can expect: Real ownership and influence over technical direction at an early-stage company Be part of a highly motivated, committed, and international team working on one of society's biggest challenges: climate change Witness and shape the evolution of a new business being built An engineering culture built on designs docs, thoughtful code reviews and shared practices Remote-friendly: up to 4 days/week remote when based in Berlin, or fully remote from elsewhere in Germany, with flexible hours Drinks, snacks, team events, and your choice of hardware Find Jobs in Germany on Arbeitnow

Software engineer, AI model supply chain and package security
Full TimeOn-siteMid
pythongorustpytorch

We build fast, modern developer tools in Rust, and a surprising amount of serious software runs on them. Pixi, rattler and rattler-build are open source and used by hundreds of thousands of developers: quant teams in finance, physicists at CERN, biotech labs, and humanoid robot companies you've probably seen videos of. We are also core maintainers of conda-forge, one of the largest open source package ecosystems, and we maintain RoboStack, which gets ROS running on any OS from a single lockfile. When that much software flows through your tools, security stops being optional. Every package that ends up on a laptop, a server or a robot should be traceable back to the source and build that produced it. We're building that for conda today, and we want to extend it to AI models. The engineering team is spread across Europe (Netherlands, Germany, UK, Moldova). This work is based in Berlin, and so is this role. The work Robots increasingly run learned models: vision transformers, RL policies, LLMs. Today those models are usually copied onto machines as large opaque files, with little record of where they came from or what changed. We think models should be shipped like packages: versioned, signed, verifiable, and updated efficiently. You'll work on two related areas. Package security. Signing and verification for conda packages with Sigstore, provenance from source to build to install, SBOMs, and mapping known vulnerabilities onto the packages people actually use. This work goes into Pixi, rattler and conda-forge, and is used by a lot of people. AI models as packages. Taking the same ideas to model artifacts. That includes: A provenance chain from training through packaging to deployment, with signatures that can be verified offline on air-gapped robots A model SBOM format, building on CycloneDX's ML-BOM Delta updates between model versions (full models, fine-tunes, LoRA adapters, quantized variants), so robots don't download gigabytes for a small change Compression that combines model techniques (quantization, pruning, distillation) with what package managers already do well (zstd, content-addressable storage), tuned to the target hardware and network Managing models that get fine-tuned on the robot itself: tracking where those variants came from, validating them, and syncing them back Testing the whole pipeline end to end on real models and real hardware, and measuring latency, bandwidth and model quality A lot of this is new. Part of the job is figuring out which approaches work, measuring them honestly, and writing up what you found. What we're looking for You don't need years of experience. You do need solid fundamentals, curiosity, and the patience to get security details right. Rust, or a strong background in C++, Go or Python and the wish to switch Interest in software supply chain security. Bonus if you've worked with Sigstore (Cosign, Rekor, Fulcio), TUF, in-toto, SLSA or SBOM formats Familiarity with ML in practice: you've trained or fine-tuned a model, know what a LoRA adapter or a quantized model is, and have used PyTorch or similar Basic understanding of cryptography as an engineer: signatures, hashes, certificates, and what they do and don't guarantee You like measuring things and are honest about results that don't work out You live in Berlin or are willing to move here It's a plus if you know package managers from the inside, have worked on model compression or edge inference, have robotics experience, or have contributed to open source. None of this is required. What we offer You'll work on problems few people have solved yet, together with the people who created Mamba, Pixi, rattler and RoboStack. Most of your work will be open source and used by a large community from day one. We pay a competitive Berlin salary, with 30 days of vacation, the hardware you want, a conference budget, and time for upstream open source work. We help with relocation within the EU.
