About Us We're living through a Cambrian explosion of intelligence: new models and new chips, each specialised for different tasks, are arriving all at once. The result is a new era for AI, one of radical heterogeneity. Callosum is the Intelligent Systems Company. We believe the next generation of AI won't be defined by any single model or chip, but by intelligent systems in which hardware and intelligence co-evolve. We are building the infrastructure that unifies heterogeneous compute across the full stack. This opens a new axis of scaling intelligence: a dynamic system that tailors itself to what each workload actually needs, whether that's speed, cost, precision, or whatever unit comes next. The last era scaled on a different bet: one bigger model, more of the same chip, more data. That bet is running into structural limits. Frontier models offer extraordinary capability at unsustainable cost, one that today's monolithic infrastructure was never designed to serve. Our founding principle is that intelligence comes from many specialised systems working together, not from any single component. We build the software orchestration layer that co-evolves models, workflows and silicon into one system, delivering inference tailored to every workload, and demonstrating orders-of-magnitude leaps in capability and cost. Because our software spans the full stack, our engineering team works directly with heterogeneous accelerators and frontier silicon, including Cerebras, d-Matrix, Intel, NVIDIA, AMD, Normal Computing, Tenstorrent, GreatSky, and Mixx. We are not stopping at today's chips: each new generation of silicon unlocks algorithms that couldn't run before, and we intend to be first to them, every time. If we get it right, it will belong to everyone building on it - not to any single vendor. In our latest funding round, we raised $100M, led by Atomico with participation from Plural, DCVC and the UK Sovereign AI Fund's first investment. With this, we are building the infrastructure for the next era of intelligence. We are engineers and scientists based in London, working across the full depth of the stack. We are curious, intellectually honest, and building what doesn't exist yet. If you thrive on uncharted territory and are energised by the scale of the challenge, we'd love to hear from you. About the Role Most agent frameworks are designed for short-lived workflows, best-effort execution, and a narrow set of tools. Callosum is building for a different world: agents that run for weeks, operate across distributed infrastructure, and interact with stateful systems where failures, retries, and side effects must be handled explicitly. Success in this environment requires an agent runtime built entirely from first principles. Sitting at the heart of our technical mission, this position owns the runtime and programming model for long-running agent systems. Your focus will span durable execution, checkpointing and replay, distributed scheduling, secure tool execution, and end-to-end observability. You will develop the core software that makes agent workflows reliable, debuggable, reproducible, and efficient as we expand our model and tool footprint. This is a high-leverage role tackling complex systems challenges across the entire stack. Runtime, observability tooling, and framework design are three separate specialties. We are glad to hire someone with real depth in a combination of them. What You'll Build Design and build stateful, asynchronous agent runtimes across distributed environments Define event histories, checkpoint and resume semantics, deterministic reconstruction, retries, cancellation, timeouts, and recovery from partial failure Build traces and replay, time-travel debugging, and hierarchical tracing across model calls, tools, handoffs, state changes, and runtime decisions Develop clear Python APIs, libraries, and DSLs with stable extension points for tools, backends, and new execution models Design scheduling, placement, backpressure, resource accounting, sandboxing, permissions, and isolation for secure tool execution at scale Develop tooling for trajectory collection and visualisation, performance profiling, experiment comparison, failure attribution, and regression detection across models, prompts, tools, and runtime versions What You'll Bring We are looking for real strength in some of the following rather than coverage of all of it. Strong distributed systems background with hands-on experience in durable workflows, actor systems, schedulers, workflow engines, distributed databases, or stream processors Experience designing a library, framework, runtime, or DSL that other engineers or researchers adopted Deep Python expertise plus proficiency in a systems language such as Rust, C++, or Go - and the instinct to move between abstraction layers when it matters Hands-on debugging skills across APIs, runtimes, and distributed infrastructure - with a practical understanding of nondeterminism, side effects, and reproducibility What Sets You Apart Experience building a production-grade runtime, compiler, workflow engine, distributed training system, database, debugger, or orchestration platform Meaningful contributions to systems such as Ray, Temporal, Kafka, Erlang/BEAM, PyTorch, JAX, TensorFlow, or comparable projects Strong API design judgement, open-source collaboration, and disciplined approaches to testing, versioning, compatibility, and reproducibility Experience in ML systems or large-scale inference and training What We Offer Competitive Salary, determined by skills and experience Equity & Ownership Private healthcare We offer Visa sponsorship and relocation benefits to hire the best in the world We work in person at our London office. You'll have the tools, space and setup to do your best work, and if you have specific needs, just tell us We're committed to building an inclusive workplace where everyone feels welcome, and believe in equal opportunities for all. Member of Technical Staff, Intelligence - Functoional Genomics
Full TimeOn-siteMid
pythongorawsdockermachine learning+7

LOCATION: King's Cross, London · PATTERN: Hybrid, with regular time in the lab The opportunity We're a stealth startup in AI and bio, building infrastructure for data generation. The team is small and elite, the problems are hard, and the foundations are being laid right now. You'd help write them from the first line, with real ownership and a direct line to the founders. This role owns the analysis of our functional genomics data. You would be the main computational partner to the scientists who run our perturbation screens, from how a screen is designed to which hits we call and how we show the evidence for them. About us AI for biology has a data problem. The data that matters most doesn't exist yet, so we're building the infrastructure to produce it, with quality and traceability built in from day one. We're in stealth and heads-down on execution. We'll share more about what we're building once you've spoken with the team. The role You will join the intelligence team and own the analysis of our functional genomics data, working day to day with the scientists who design and run the screens. You will work with them from experimental design through to picking hits, and build the pipelines that let the analysis keep up as screening throughput grows. This is a hands-on role with real influence over how we generate and use our data. The data is multimodal. Single-cell and pooled CRISPR screens are read out by sequencing, by Cell Painting and other high-content imaging, and by proteomics, often on the same perturbations. Much of the job is making those readouts agree with each other, with statistics that hold up when a screen crosses several factors at once. You will work with the software team, who own how data is captured and stored. You build the analysis on top of that, and you own its quality. Your first 90 days FIRST 30 DAYS ◆ Learn how the scientists design and run the screens, and what each readout produces, from sequencing to imaging and proteomics. ◆ Review the analysis and QC that exist for CRISPR screens and Cell Painting, and set out what is missing. DAYS 30 TO 60 ◆ Own the analysis of the first single-cell and pooled CRISPR screens you work on: QC, guide assignment, differential expression and modelling of perturbation effects. ◆ Build the first image-based profiling pipeline for Cell Painting, from feature extraction and normalisation to phenotypic scoring. ◆ Advise on the design of upcoming screens, covering power, replication, library coverage, plate layout and batch effects. DAYS 60 TO 90 ◆ Integrate proteomic, transcriptomic and imaging readouts of the same perturbations, with statistics that hold up for multi-factor designs. ◆ Make the pipelines reproducible and versioned, with the software team, so they scale as throughput grows. ◆ Present results with their uncertainty and QC to the scientists and to leadership. Who you are You have a background in genomics, and you have analysed real screening or single-cell data and built things other people relied on. That might have been in a functional genomics or screening group in biotech or pharma, an academic lab, a core facility, or a computational group that worked closely with one. Nobody arrives with every part of this role. If you are strong in most of it and quick to learn the rest, we want to hear from you. You like working next to the bench. Much of the value is in the conversations with the scientists before a screen runs, and you can explain a result to someone who was not in the room. You write code other people can run, and you care how a result reads to the person receiving it. We do not hire people into boxes. This role will stretch past its description, sometimes into the lab and sometimes into conversations about how our data is used. Early hires here are expected to pick up what is in front of them. MUST HAVE ◆ A PhD, or a master's with two to three years of relevant experience, in genomics, bioinformatics, computational biology, statistics or a related field. ◆ Strong Python or R, with good engineering habits such as Git, code review and reproducible workflows, and working with coding agents. ◆ Hands-on single-cell RNA-seq analysis, for example with Scanpy or Seurat, including MEMBER OF TECHNICAL STAFF, INTELLIGENCE (FUNCTIONAL GENOMICS) CRISPR screen QC such as guide assignment and knockdown efficiency. ◆ Statistical and machine learning methods on biological data, including linear and mixed models, multiple testing, and handling batch effects and confounders. ◆ Working closely with wet-lab scientists, and explaining results clearly to people outside your field. NICE TO HAVE ◆ Perturb-seq or combinatorial-barcoding single-cell RNA-seq, such as Parse Evercode. ◆ Image-based profiling, such as CellProfiler or pycytominer, or deep-learning image analysis. ◆ Multi-omic integration methods. ◆ Workflow managers such as Nextflow or Snakemake, containers such as Docker, and cloud or HPC computing such as AWS. Why this is unusual Most screening analysis happens after the fact, on files from a lab someone else runs, with little record of how each plate was handled. Here you sit with the scientists who run the screens, you can ask how a plate was handled and get an answer, and your analysis goes out with the data. It also crosses readouts that usually live in separate teams. Sequencing, imaging and proteomics from the same perturbations come through one small team, and the analysis has to hold up across all of them. Some people find that energising; some find it outside their lane. It's worth knowing in advance which one you are. How we work The role is based in London, at our lab and office in King's Cross. Time in person with the scientists matters for this work. The wider founding team is distributed across London, New York and Europe and travels, so you will work with people who are not always in the building. We work in the open. Decisions are written down and work happens in Slack. The whole company meets once a week at the start of the week, and there is a regular offsite. Each person owns their area and makes the call inside it, and we will expect that of you early rather than late. UK benefits are 30 days of annual leave plus public holidays, a pension with a 10% employer contribution, and Bupa private health cover. More is added as the team grows. The team you will join You will report into the intelligence team. You will work most closely with the functional genomics scientists who design and run the screens, and with the software team. You will be the first person on the intelligence team whose focus is functional genomics data, joining a small team. Our process Our process has four stages. A short screening call about the role and the practicalities. A behavioural interview about how you work and what you value, run from the same template for every candidate. A technical stage built on a real analysis problem from our lab, not a puzzle. You spend a few hours writing up how you would approach it, using the tools you would use on the job, coding agents included, with a short note on the decisions you made. We care about judgement more than hours, so a focused answer beats an exhaustive one. We then go through it with you in person. Then references, aimed at whatever we still want to understand. If you are not sure whether you are a fit, apply anyway. We would rather read it and decide. We are an equal opportunity employer. We make hiring decisions on merit, scope-fit, and the strength of the working relationship we expect to build with each hire. Applications welcome from candidates of any background. Member of Scientific Staff, Computational Chemistry
Full TimeOn-siteMid
gorestlaboratorybiologychemistry

LOCATION: King's Cross, London · PATTERN: Hybrid, flexible for the right candidate The opportunity We're a stealth startup in AI and bio, building infrastructure for data generation. The team is small and elite, the problems are hard, and the foundations are being laid right now. You'd help write them from the first line, with real ownership and a direct line to the founders. This role builds our computational chemistry from the start. You would own how a set of target molecules becomes a synthesis plan that automated equipment can run, and how every compound we work with is represented and registered. About us AI for biology has a data problem. The data that matters most doesn't exist yet, so we're building the infrastructure to produce it, with quality and traceability built in from day one. We're in stealth and heads-down on execution. We'll share more about what we're building once you've spoken with the team. The role You will own computational chemistry end to end, from the molecules someone wants made to the plan the lab executes. The role sits at the interface between synthetic chemistry, cheminformatics and software, and lab automation, and you will build the computational capability alongside the physical synthesis and automation capability from an early stage. The role is embedded with the synthetic chemists and the automation scientists and engineers, and you will work with them every day. Much of the value comes from drawing out what experienced chemists know and turning their judgement into rules, models and workflows that apply the same way every time. Two parts of the role go beyond standard computational chemistry, and they are why it matters so much. Routes that automation can execute. A chemically plausible route is only the starting point. Planning has to account for what the platform can do, including the building blocks and reagents available, the reaction classes and conditions it supports, handling constraints, work-up and purification, and throughput. It also has to work across a whole target set. Given hundreds or thousands of targets, you will find the shared chemistry, common intermediates and building blocks, and reduce them to a manageable set of synthetic strategies, balancing diversity and compound value against synthetic cost. You will work with the automation team to define what planning hands to the systems downstream, and over time connect planning, synthesis and experimental results so that each round of results improves the next plan. Chemical identity from the outset. The digital representation and identity of compounds has to be right from the start, because other scientific teams will rely on compound registration for chemical identity, as well as synthesis planning. You will establish when two structures represent the same chemical entity and when they do not, and handle stereoisomers, salts, tautomers, protonation and charge states and other representation and normalisation questions consistently. You will be the first person in this seat. You will choose the methods, set the standards, write the first production code and shape how the capability grows, including who joins it. Your first 90 days FIRST 30 DAYS ◆ Learn how the synthetic chemists and the automation team work, and what the synthesis platform will and will not support. ◆ Agree the rules for chemical identity with the chemists, covering structure normalisation, validation and deduplication, and how stereochemistry, isomers, salts, tautomers and charge states are handled. ◆ Start ingesting vendor catalogues and building-block inventories through supplier APIs and external chemical data sources, capturing availability, cost and metadata so they can act as planning constraints. ◆ Agree with the automation team what a synthesis plan has to specify for the platform to execute it. DAYS 30 TO 60 ◆ Set up compound-registration workflows and identifiers that downstream systems can rely on. ◆ Run a first planning pass on a real target set, generating, evaluating and ranking routes and grouping targets by shared chemistry, intermediates and building blocks. DAYS 60 TO 90 ◆ Build the platform's capabilities and constraints into planning, so routes are scored on whether they can be executed as well as whether they are plausible. ◆ Add selection across the target set that weighs diversity and compound value against synthetic cost, step count and throughput. ◆ Connect compounds, reactions and experimental results to the wider digital chemistry stack (ELN, LIMS and compound registration), and set out how results will feed back into the route and reaction models. Who you are You work across disciplines. You might be a computational chemist or cheminformatician who has spent real time with synthetic chemists, or a synthetic chemist who moved into modelling and software and still cares whether a route works at the bench. You have built synthesis-planning or chemical-data tools that other people relied on, and you know where they break. You think in sets of molecules as well as single ones. You are comfortable making decisions on incomplete information, writing them down, and changing them when the data says so. You listen carefully to chemists, because much of what this role needs is in their judgement and has never been written down. This is a founding seat. You will lead the computational side of our chemistry, and we expect you to shape it from your first week. Nobody arrives with every part of this role. If you are strong in most of it and quick to learn the rest, we want to hear from you. We do not hire people into boxes. This role will stretch past its description, into the lab and into how other teams use chemical data, and early hires here pick up what is in front of them. MUST HAVE ◆ Enough grounding in synthetic organic chemistry to speak the language of synthetic chemists, draw out and distill their expertise, and translate practical chemical judgement into computational rules, models and workflows. ◆ Strong cheminformatics, particularly the rigorous handling of chemical structures in digital form, including molecular and reaction representations, SMILES and SMARTS, stereochemistry and isomers, salts, tautomers, protonation and charge states, substructure and similarity searching, molecular descriptors, and chemical identity and registration. ◆ Experience with retrosynthesis or computer-aided synthesis planning, developing or evaluating methods that generate, evaluate and rank synthetic routes rather than simply calling an off-the-shelf tool. ◆ Reasoning computationally about reactions and their feasibility, including transformations and templates, reagents, conditions, selectivity and supporting reaction evidence. ◆ Planning across many targets at once, finding the shared chemistry, common intermediates and building blocks across hundreds or thousands of molecules and reducing them to a manageable set of synthetic strategies. ◆ A working grasp of the trade-offs between route quality, synthetic tractability, compound diversity and value, building-block availability, cost, step count and throughput. ◆ RDKit or equivalent cheminformatics tooling, and comfort working with chemical databases, APIs and large chemical datasets. NICE TO HAVE ◆ ML or AI approaches to reaction prediction, condition recommendation or retrosynthesis. ◆ Reaction-condition prediction or optimisation, and the design of high-throughput experimentation. ◆ Using experimental reaction data to improve models or planning decisions. ◆ Optimisation methods for selecting compounds or routes across large libraries, such as diversity selection, synthetic-cost models and multi-objective optimisation. ◆ Integrating scientific software with laboratory automation, and with ELN, LIMS or compound-registration systems. ◆ Production-quality scientific software, APIs, databases and data pipelines. Why this is unusual Most computational chemistry roles plan routes for chemists to carry out by hand, or build models on reaction data someone else collected. Here, a route counts only if the platform can execute it, and the results of every run come back to you as data to learn from. The work also reaches past synthesis. The rules you set for chemical identity become the reference other teams build on, so a salt form or a tautomer handled carelessly matters well beyond a single route. Some people find that energising; some find it outside their lane. It's worth knowing in advance which one you are. How we work The role is based at our office in King's Cross, London. Our preference is a hybrid pattern with regular time in person with the chemists and the automation team, and for the right candidate we are open to a more flexible arrangement. The wider founding team is distributed across London, New York and Europe and travels, so you will work with people who are not always in the building. We work in the open. Decisions are written down and work happens in Slack. The whole company meets once a week at the start of the week, and there is a regular offsite. UK benefits are 30 days of annual leave plus public holidays, a pension with a 10% employer contribution, and Bupa private health cover. More is added as the team grows. The team you will join You will report to the co-founder who leads our science. You will work most closely with the synthetic chemists and with the automation scientists and engineers. You will be the first person whose focus is computational chemistry, joining a small team. Our process Our process has four stages. A short screening call about the role and the practicalities. A behavioural interview about how you work and what you value. A technical stage built on a real problem of the kind this role owns. Senior Strategic Finance Analyst
Full TimeOn-siteSenior

About Alma At Alma, we believe sustainable commerce depends on fair, well‑balanced trade. Because finance plays a pivotal role in business, our mission is to put it back in its rightful place - serving merchants and consumers. Our installment and deferred payment solutions help merchants boost sales by 20% or more, increase customer loyalty, and deliver a seamless shopping experience - without encouraging bad debt. As the buy now pay later leader in France and active in 10 European countries, we've empowered over +25,000 merchants and 10 million consumers. With 400+ Almakers and €100M+ ARR, Alma is scaling rapidly across Europe as a member of the Next40, and we're just getting started! About the team Strategic Finance is part of Alma's Finance team and reports to the CFO. Our job is to understand Alma's economics better than anyone: we own the top line, the unit economics and the Contribution Margin, and we turn that knowledge into decisions on pricing, partnerships, markets and products. We are organising the team so that each person owns a piece of Alma's P&L from start to finish: its business plan, its recurring analysis, its key finance processes, its business partners and its Board materials. Depending on the scope, that piece can be payments and partnerships, our existing merchant base, or new business and growth, each with one or more European markets attached. About the job Own your piece of the P&L. Build and maintain its business plan, follow its performance month after month, and explain what moves the numbers and why, all the way up to the Board. Run the key finance processes of your scope. Depending on the scope: pricing, merchant performance reviews, cost and margin analysis, country reviews. You are accountable for their quality, and for making them better at every cycle. Be a real partner to the business. Work day to day with the commercial, product and operations teams, step back from the numbers, and bring a clear recommendation whenever a decision is on the table. Rebuild how finance works with AI. Prototype AI-assisted workflows, industrialise the ones that work, and free up the team's time for analysis and influence. Raising the bar on how we work matters as much as what we deliver. You will work with Google Sheets · Excel · SQL (largely AI-assisted) · Notion · Slack · AI assistants and LLMs About you To succeed in this job Have 6 to 7 years of experience in strategic finance, FP&A, transaction services, consulting or a similar analytical role, ideally including time in a fast-growing company. Model with ease and think in unit economics: you can build a business plan from raw data and spot when a number doesn't make sense. Querying is largely AI-assisted at Alma, so data judgement matters more than deep SQL. Have a strong appetite for AI and learn fast. Ideally, you have already built AI-assisted workflows and made them stick. Take ownership and bring business sense: you make a scope your own, you know when to step back, and you can influence people who don't report to you. You work comfortably in English and have enough French for day-to-day exchanges with colleagues (native French is not required). And it will be nice if you also Hold a Master's degree in Finance, Business or Engineering, or equivalent. Have exposure to fintech, payments or BNPL. Speak a third language beyond French and English, a real plus given our European footprint. Don't meet every single requirement? At Alma, we believe great hires come from diverse paths. If this role excites you, we encourage you to apply. We value potential, curiosity and the ability to grow as much as experience. What's in it for you If you join, you will be able to grow and impact on: Ownership and visibility. A piece of Alma's P&L that is truly yours, with direct exposure. AI at the core of the job. The chance to redesign how a finance team works, building the workflows rather than just using them. A team in the making. Strategic Finance is being restructured now: you will help shape how it works, in a Next40 scale-up growing across Europe, with room to take on broader responsibilities. Compensation & Benefits Competitive salary based on 12 months Profit-sharing and employee savings plan Health insurance: 100% covered by Alma including family package Disability insurance: 100% covered by Alma Sport: partnerships with Gymlib and Classpass, or €30/month reimbursement for your sports activities Maternity/paternity leave: salary maintained at 100% during leave with no seniority requirement. Return to work at 4/5 schedule paid at 100% for 8 weeks. Sustainable Mobility Package (FMD): €544.80/year (excluding full-remote contracts) Meal vouchers: €10/day, 50% covered by Alma Mental health: free access to MindDay platform Paid time off: 25 days/year (+ additional paid leave granted for employees on executive contracts) Access to our Learning & Development Platform 2 weeks of full remote possible per year in summer Interview Process Video call with a Talent Acquisition team member to understand your path, motivation & present you the role. Video call with your future manager to deep dive the role, the team, your profile and answer all your questions. Case study presentation with 2 - 3 team members (ideally in house) to assess your practical knowledge. 1 or 2 additional interviews customized to the role's level to further assess your skills and team fit. Diversity & Inclusion At Alma, we believe that diversity fuels innovation and makes our community stronger. We are committed to building a workplace where every person feels seen, respected, and empowered to do their best work whatever their gender, background, ethnicity, age, sexual orientation, religion, disability or lived experience. As an equal opportunity employer, we welcome applicants from all walks of life, and all employment decisions are made based on qualifications, merit, and business needs.
