Company Description We're Checkout.com . You might not know our name, but companies like eBay, Spotify, Klarna, Uber, and Sony do, because we're behind many of the digital experiences you use every day. We are where the world checks out, enabling over 10 billion transactions yearly for more than one billion global shoppers. Whether you want to book a holiday, order food, renew a subscription, or check out online, there's a good chance our tech powers the payments behind the scenes. Our platform helps the most ambitious businesses deliver effortless digital experiences, at scale. If you want to do career-defining work, you've come to the right place. We move fast, think globally, and believe great teams are built by hiring exceptional people with conviction, curiosity, and the desire to make an impact. With 20 offices across six continents and London as our HQ, we're shaping the future of fintech – and we're just getting started. Checkout.com is looking for an ambitious Senior Engineering Manager to join our Disputes team. Our mission is to build the tools, services, and models that help merchants manage and win disputes at scale - reducing the cost and operational burden of chargebacks while protecting revenue for our merchants and our business. Disputes sit at the intersection of merchant-facing products, complex scheme and regulatory processes, and data-driven decisioning. Our team owns the full stack, anchored by a .NET back end that manages the dispute lifecycle and integrates with card schemes, alongside the front-end experiences merchants use to track and respond to disputes and the machine learning models that predict outcomes and recommend the best action on every case. We're building for scale, and that scale brings ambiguity, shifting priorities, and the occasional setback - so we're looking for a resilient leader who has built and sustained high-performing teams, learned from failure, and come back stronger. Above all, you'll be someone who drives predictable delivery and operational efficiency: shipping consistently, running systems reliably, and continuously improving how the team works. The ideal candidate has operated across both enterprise and scale-up environments and has a proven track record of driving growth within large, complex, regulated organisations. Key Responsibilities Lead a team centred on a .NET back end, with front-end and machine learning components, helping engineers establish and validate their understanding of technical architecture and design end-user-centric systems and tools. Own predictable, high-velocity delivery — establishing healthy engineering practices, sensible estimation, and a smooth path from idea to production so the team ships consistently and sustainably. Drive operational efficiency and reliability by automating processes — including monitoring and alerting — meeting SLAs/SLOs, reducing operational cost, and minimising toil to keep the team focused on high-value work rather t Continuously improve delivery and operational metrics (e.g. cycle time, deployment frequency, change failure rate, and incident response), using data to identify bottlenecks and raises the bar over time. Manage team engineers across various seniority levels and disciplines while staying hands-on when needed. Cultivate an inclusive environment where every team member feels they belong, and mentors them in both their career development and interpersonal skills. Make a good team great, and keep it great.. Oversee quarterly execution of roadmap delivery, ensuring the team stays focused on the right priorities and manages efficiently through dependencies and cross-functional hurdles. Collaborate across Engineering, Product, and Operations to deliver solutions for merchant and internal dispute use cases. Build and strengthen relationships with engineers, managers, and people leads across multiple teams. Operating in a highly regulated financial space, ensure compliance with a range of control frameworks — from internal stakeholders such as InfoSec and Internal Audit, to external auditors, card schemes, and regulators. Oversee the responsible use of machine learning and AI in dispute decisioning, leading the team to develop the infrastructure, tooling, and governance required to run models safely and at scale in production. About You A resilient leader who has learned from setbacks and failures and consistently comes back stronger, keeping teams steady and delivering through periods of change and ambiguity. You thrive on pace. You're energised by a high-growth environment, comfortable making decisions with imperfect information, and you keep the team moving and shipping when priorities shift under you. A proven track record of driving predictable delivery and operational efficiency — improving throughput, reliability, and the team's cost of operation, and using metrics to back it up. Proven experience building, growing, and sustaining high-performing engineering teams over time — not just standing them up. Experience across both enterprise and scale-up environments, with a demonstrated track record of driving growth and delivery within large, complex, regulated organisations. A strong back-end engineering background, ideally in .NET / C#, leading teams building scalable, event-driven services and APIs. Comfortable also overseeing front-end and machine learning work, able to earn credibility and make sound trade-offs across disciplines even where you aren't the deepest expert. Able to partner with Product Management to assess technical feasibility, provide capacity estimates, and balance new features against architectural health. Excellent time management and proactive problem-solving skills. Technologies we work with Back end (primary): .NET / C#, REST APIs, event-driven and microservice architectures. Front end: React, TypeScript. Machine learning: Python, model training and serving, and the infrastructure to run models in production. Data & platform: SQL, plus experience designing batch and stream data-processing systems. Cloud & tooling: AWS and/or GCP, Docker, Terraform, and observability tooling such as Datadog. Knowledge of Kubernetes, Kafka, and CI/CD pipelines is highly beneficial. Additional Information Bring all of you to work We create the conditions for high performers to thrive, through real ownership, fewer blockers, and work that makes a difference from day one. Here, you'll move fast, take on meaningful challenges, and be recognized for the impact you deliver. It's a place where ambition gets met with opportunity, and where your growth is in your hands. We work as one team, and we back each other to succeed. So whatever your background or identity, if you're ready to grow and make a difference, you'll be right at home here. It's important we set you up for success and make our process as accessible as possible. So let us know in your application, or tell your recruiter directly, if you need anything to make your experience or working environment more comfortable. Experience with anomaly detection, optimisation, reliability-focused modelling, or related approaches in industrial settings. Experience building or experimenting with agents or autonomous systems. Familiarity with MLOps, model monitoring, and efficient compute practices. Experience working with sparse, noisy, or imperfect real-world data from labs, heavy industry, or other applied environments. Track record of collaborating closely with deployed or client-facing teams to bring advanced methods into operational use. Wondering if you're a good fit? We believe in investing in our people, and value candidates who can bring their own diversified experiences to our teams - even if you aren't a 100% skill or experience match. Here are a few qualities we've found compatible with our team. If some of this describes you, we'd love to talk. You love applying advanced ML to real-world, high-value physical engineering problems. You're curious about agentic and autonomous approaches and how they can reshape engineering workflows. Validation, Testing & Documentation • Prepare and run Model-, Software- and Hardware-in-the-Loop (MiL, SiL, HiL) test campaigns to verify the control and monitoring functions at each step, from Simulink model to embedded code on target hardware. • Support Storm engine and component cryogenic (LOX/LCH4) test campaigns: test preparation, on-site support, data processing and post-test analysis. • Produce clear development documentation: specifications, test procedures, test reports and justification files. What we would love to see from you: • Master's degree (or equivalent) in Aerospace, Electrical, Control or Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline. • Recent graduate (or graduating within the next months); no professional experience required. A master's thesis, internship or academic project in control, propulsion or embedded systems is a strong plus. • Solid fundamentals in control theory, both classical and modern (state-space, robustness, digital control). • Practical use of MATLAB/Simulink and Python through coursework or projects; basic knowledge of C/C++. • Basic understanding of fluid dynamics and thermodynamics, and a strong interest in cryogenic propulsion and turbomachinery. • Fluent in English. Nice to Have: • Exposure to MiL/SiL/HiL testing or real-time embedded systems. • Experience with auto-coding from Simulink models. • Familiarity with safety-critical design practices, reliability engineering or failure mode analysis. • Interest or experience in data science applied to health monitoring and anomaly detection. • Knowledge of space standards (ECSS, MIL-STD, NASA-HBK…). • German and/or French. Skills & Behaviours: • Eagerness to learn and to take on increasing ownership under the guidance of senior engineers. • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to draw useful conclusions from partial or contradictory data. • Clear oral and written communication; comfortable working closely with engine, avionics, software and test teams. • Organised, able to prioritise tasks and deliver within time constraints. • Positive, flexible attitude and enthusiasm for space exploration. • Behaviour consistent with The Exploration Company's core values of Mission, Vision, Integrity, Excellence and Teamwork. About us: Tebi is creating the first Connected Restaurant Management System that makes hospitality flow. In one seamless platform, Tebi embeds sales, reservations, kitchen prep, payments, and all the data that powers it, creating smooth service and intuitive insights. Founded by Arnout Schuijff, co-founder of Adyen, and backed by €50 million in funding from Index Ventures & CapitalG, Tebi is built in service of hospitality first. Thousands of restaurants, cafés, bars, and coffee shops across the Netherlands, UK, Italy, Spain, Germany, Denmark and Finland already love running on Tebi. About the role: Restaurant owners trust other restaurant owners. They listen to the chef down the street, their wine supplier and their accountant long before they listen to an ad. That's why our events work. When we launched in Berlin, we hosted a four-hands dinner with two local merchants and a well-known food creator. We believe that's what builds credibility, trust, and ultimately a warm prospect list. We're hiring an Events & Community Manager to turn that into a program that runs in several markets at the same time. You'll plan and run our partner and owned events, and find new ways to grow Tebi through the hospitality community in each city, neighbourhood and market. You'll work closely with our local sales teams so every event and partnership turns into real conversations. This is a hands-on role. One week you'll be hosting a merchant dinner in Milan, the next you'll be setting up a distributor breakfast in Amsterdam. You'll report to the Head of Marketing and work closely with our Marketing team to extend these programs to our channel ecosystem, plus align closely with the General Managers and Account Managers in each market. What you'll be doing: Run events across markets: Plan and deliver partner and owned events in 2–3 markets at a time, from intimate merchant dinners and industry breakfasts to city launches. You own the calendar, budget, venues, suppliers, guest lists and the plan for the night. Build the playbook as you go: Turn each event into templates, checklists and supplier lists, so we can launch a city campaign in weeks, not months. Improve them after every event. Build local partner networks: Find the people operators already trust: drinks distributors, wholesalers, food creators, hospitality associations, accountants and the advisers who help new venues open. Build partnerships that bring us introductions and referrals, not just logos. Put our merchants front and center: Work with our best merchants as hosts and anchors, so prospects hear about Tebi from the people they respect. Turn connections into pipeline: Agree with local Sales and Account Management who to involve, how to follow up and who owns what conversations. Track every event in HubSpot from invite to demo to signed merchant. Grow Tebi through the community: Find new ways to reach operators through the people and places they already trust, in each city, neighborhood and across borders. Keep guests and partners engaged after events, so one introduction leads to the next. Open new community channels: Test new ways to grow through our close-knit industry, such as an affiliate or referral program for partners, sharing useful insights from our merchants, and showing up in the forums and groups where operators talk shop. Capture the stories: Work with our creative team and relevant freelancers to turn events and partner moments into social content, case studies and sales material. How we'll measure success: Events delivered each quarter across markets, on time and on budget Demos, pipeline and new merchants from each event and partnership Introductions, referrals and leads from partners, affiliates and community channels Cost per demo compared with our other channels What you'll bring: Have built something people show up for: an event series, a supper club, a community, a program. You can point to what it led to, not just how many people came Feel at home in hospitality. You've worked in or around restaurants, bars or food and drink brands, and you're comfortable leading a room full of operators Are high agency. You own your calendar, your relationships and your results, and you don't wait to be told what to do Build your own playbook when there isn't one, and you enjoy doing the work as much as planning it Know the difference between a real community and a guest list See growth opportunities beyond events, and are curious enough to test them Can run several markets at once without dropping details, and are happy to travel regularly Track what you do: comfortable with a CRM (HubSpot a plus), UTMs and simple reporting Speak fluent English. Dutch, German, Italian, Spanish or a Nordic language is a plus Typically this means 3–5 years in events, community, field marketing or partnerships, but we care more about what you've built than how long you've been doing it. This role isn't for you if: You'd rather plan the program than run it You need a fixed playbook and a clear org chart to get going You're not willing to roll up your sleeves on the night Benefits: Start-up Equity Competitive Salary Lunch Provided in Office Team building events Unlimited time off What is Restaurant Software? Restaurants and other merchants use various software systems such as Point of Sale (POS), Reservations, Kitchen Display Systems (KDS), Payments, Inventory, Staffing, and the list goes on. These systems all need to speak to each other which they frequently don't. It's a mess, and we are fixing it. From buying a croissant at a cafe to having dinner with friends, it's a €4 Trillion+ global market and a critical part of everyday life in today's economy. How we use AI at Tebi We use AI the way our merchants use Tebi, to cut out the friction and get to what matters faster. We believe in a world where AI increases quality, efficiency and speed. At Tebi, AI isn't a policy or a checkbox, it's just part of how we work. It helps us write, analyse, build, and improve but doesn't make the last call. If there's a smarter way to do something, we want to find it. Find more English Speaking Jobs in Netherlands on Arbeitnow
