Electric Propulsion Engineer
Full TimeOn-siteMid
pythonmatlabdentalpropulsioninsurancerecruiting+1

Company NewOrbit builds satellites that fly in very low Earth orbit, below 300 km, along with the electric propulsion that keeps them there. Flying closer to Earth means sharper imagery from smaller optics, and an orbit that cleans itself: our satellites de-orbit within a month at end of life, leaving no debris. Our AURA family of RF gridded ion thrusters powers our own NEO-1 satellite, with first flight planned for Q3 2028, and is also offered to other operators. Role Electric propulsion is what lets our satellites hold very low orbits, and our AURA RF gridded ion thruster is at the centre of it. As Electric Propulsion Engineer, you own the design of that thruster: you calculate it, design it, build it, test it in our own vacuum facilities and feed what you learn straight into the next iteration. You own the testing of your own designs, and your results decide what flies. Responsibilities Design Own the design of our RF gridded ion thruster and its performance calculations, from concept to flight configuration. Iterate rapidly to support NEO-1 and our customer thruster deliveries. Work with mechanical, electrical and control engineers on each new iteration of the ion propulsion system. Build and test Design and build the test rigs and equipment for propulsion testing. Assemble and operate test hardware, electronics and vacuum facilities. Run electric propulsion tests on your own designs and analyse the results. Plan and run the test campaigns for your own designs. Verify Turn test results into design changes, then re-test. Document every test configuration and result so it gives traceable evidence for system verification and qualification. Requirements Essential Strong knowledge of RF gridded ion thrusters, including RF plasma generation, ion optics and neutralisation. Hands-on electric propulsion testing, ideally with RF generators, high-voltage power supplies and thrust balances. Experience with vacuum systems (pumps, gauges, valves), power supplies, fluid management (high-pressure gas tanks, mass flow controllers) and data acquisition. Solid grounding in plasma physics, modelling, diagnostics and ionisation processes. Willingness to design, build and test your own hardware, and to work extended hours on-site. Nice to have Experience taking a thruster from design through qualification to flight hardware. Scripting for data analysis and test automation (Python or MATLAB). Experience running thrusters on more than one propellant, such as xenon, krypton or air. We are recruiting across propulsion design and test. Apply to whichever role fits you best - strong candidates may be considered for either. Why NewOrbit Space? Pioneering space technology - Your work on our RF gridded ion thrusters and VLEO satellite platform will redefine satellite operations and challenge traditional LEO. Ownership and impact - You'll have a level of ownership that's rare in the space industry, and you'll take part in the full lifecycle of satellite technology. Equity and competitive salary - Alongside a competitive salary you receive a company ownership stake, so you share in the technology you help build and in our collective success. Comprehensive benefits - Private health insurance with dental and optical cover, and annual health check-ups. Hybrid working - One dedicated remote day per week. Visa sponsorship and relocation support - We sponsor visas and provide relocation support for candidates moving to join us. Find Jobs in United Kingdom on Arbeitnow

About Allica Bank Allica is the UK's fastest growing company - and the fastest-growing financial technology (Fintech) firm ever. Our purpose is to help established SMEs, one of the last major underserved opportunities in Fintech. Established SMEs are the backbone of local communities - representing over a third of our economy - yet have been largely neglected both by traditional high street banks and modern fintech providers. Department Description Our vision is to reimagine Relationship Banking for established SMEs, through the very best people, products and digital tools. We don't pretend to have all the answers yet, and you will play a role in continuing to shape our offering. Our Relationship Manager team was formed in 2022 and continues to grow with the Bank at pace. Providing every customer who opens an account with us with a Relationship Manager, to work alongside them and provide outstanding service, is core to our strategy. In addition to providing outstanding service, our Relationship Managers build deep levels of understanding and trust with their customers, and get to understand their ambitions, goals and motivations. Allica Relationship Managers support their customers through the provision of appropriate Allica Bank products including Business Current Accounts, Savings Accounts, Commercial Loans, Asset Finance and Working Capital Facilities. Role Description All Relationship Manager roles at Allica Bank carry a requirement for new business acquisition as we continue to build the bank. Where portfolios are held, they are built to allow capacity to do this. Relationship Managers will bring, and continue to build, a strong network of trusted SME advisors such as accountants, solicitors, business organisations and others (but not commercial finance brokers – these are looked after by our dedicated broker team). We expect our Relationship Managers to be recognised as valued partners and experts in business finance by their clients and in the communities they serve. Principal Accountabilities Relationship Manage a portfolio of SME customers, understanding customer's needs and business aspirations, and looking for opportunities to support them via Allica Bank services and through their own external networks Originating SME lending opportunities for both existing and new customers from initial enquiry through to completion, including writing credit papers in line with Allica's credit policy and appetite. Delivering the business plan for your local area, and actively managing your objectives and personal development plan. Making your colleagues proud that you represent Allica in your local area, by ensuring excellent service for local SME customers, prospects and advisors. Working closely and collaboratively with all areas of Allica to ensure a seamless and professional service is always provided. Being a positive contributor to Allica's culture, and always demonstrating the bank's values Complying with all mandatory policies, and adherence to operational procedures to maintain internal controls. Personal Attributes & Experience Highly capable Relationship Manager and Business Developer with a long-term track record of building high-value, trust based and long-lasting referral relationships. You will need to have a strong understanding of SME banking, which must include a background in commercial lending. You will be able to demonstrate a history of exemplary level of service, and of maximising the value with prospects and customers. You will be able to demonstrate a passion for SMEs, be a self-starter and bring an entrepreneurial mindset to your work. You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills together with evidence of strong career progression and/or outperformance. You'll be able to evidence an ability to work expertly with customers, colleagues and advisors to structure new lending proposals and write credit applications. You'll have a proven track record in providing excellent customer service, and in generating new income opportunities whilst effectively managing credit risk. You'll demonstrate an ability to analyse and review financial accounts and associated information. #LI-Remote #LI-AD1 Working at Allica Bank At Allica Bank we want to ensure our employees have the right tools and environment in which to succeed in their role and in support of our customers.
