Quantum Sensing Engineer (NV Centers) (f/m/d)
Full TimeOn-siteMid
pythonrrestelectrical engineeringlearning & developmentr+3

Description QuantumDiamonds is building commercial quantum sensing tools for semiconductor inspection and failure analysis. As our Quantum Sensing Engineer (NV Centers) , you will join the Hardware Pre-Development Team and take technical ownership of the sensing core of our widefield Quantum Diamond Microscope (QDM). At the heart of your role is one question: how do we get more performance out of the NV sensing system? You will work across the complete sensing chain — from the diamond sensor and laser excitation through microwave spin control and bias magnetics to fluorescence collection and camera readout. When sensitivity, resolution, speed, or stability falls short, you will investigate the system end to end, identify the limiting mechanism, and turn your findings into measurable improvements. The diamond sensor itself is an important part of that challenge. Together with internal experts and external partners, you will help drive the development of our NV diamond material — connecting epitaxy, irradiation, annealing, surface preparation, and optical coatings to the performance we ultimately achieve at the system level. This is a hands-on R&D role spanning quantum physics, experimental hardware, and sensor development. You will take ideas from first principles through experiments and prototypes to validated technologies that can be transferred into our products. Who we are Founded in 2022 as a spin-off of TU Munich, QD leverages quantum sensors to rapidly capture three-dimensional current maps within multi-layer chips. Our strong, international team of over 70, including physicists, engineers, data scientists, and other experts, works side by side with major semiconductor manufacturers, supporting chip debugging and accelerating yield analysis. Backed by top-tier deep tech investors, semiconductor experts, and strategic public programs, we have ensured long-term stability, shifting from breakthrough to scale - and shaping the next chapter in chip testing. Our technology is the cutting edge of tomorrow, starting today and not in 10 years. You'll be part of a high-growth company backed by top-tier investors. Let's make the invisible visible! What will you do Own the end-to-end NV sensing chain of the QDM, from laser excitation and diamond sensor through microwave spin control and bias field to fluorescence collection and camera readout. Develop and benchmark measurement protocols (e.g., ODMR variants, pulsed sequences, lock-in and referencing schemes) that improve sensitivity, speed, and robustness. Prototype hardware improvements across microwave delivery, photon collection, bias magnetics, and timing, and validate every concept hands-on in the lab. Steer our diamond sensor R&D, providing technical direction to our diamond material/process experts and driving recipe optimizations for NV-layer epitaxy, irradiation and annealing, surface preparation, and optical coatings towards our system-level performance goals. Define diamond specifications, characterize new material generations (NV density, contrast, coherence, strain), and correlate material parameters with system performance. Collaborate across hardware and software, document your findings, and hand over validated technologies to our Product Development Team. What is expected of you A degree in Physics, Quantum Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field, typically with a PhD or equivalent hands-on experience with NV centers or a closely related quantum sensing platform. Deep understanding of NV physics: ODMR, optical spin polarization and readout, and magnetometry protocols, and how they set practical sensitivity limits. Systems-level thinking and solid working knowledge of the optics and electronics around a quantum sensing experiment: you troubleshoot across domain boundaries down to the root cause. A working understanding of how diamond growth, doping, irradiation, annealing, and coatings shape NV properties, or the drive to build this expertise fast. The ability to steer recipe development with partners: defining specifications, designing characterization campaigns, and turning results into process improvements. Confident use of Python for experiment control, automation, and data analysis. Strong communication and documentation skills, comfortable in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary team. The working language is English. Nice to have: Experience with widefield NV magnetometry or camera-based quantum imaging. Familiarity with semiconductor failure analysis, inspection, or metrology. Hands-on experience with CVD diamond growth, irradiation and annealing, or thin-film optical coatings. Our benefits Mission: At QD, we're driven by more than just building great products - we aim to make a lasting difference. Joining us means contributing to meaningful work that goes beyond business as usual. Impact & growth: This is an exciting stage of our journey, and your voice matters. Well-being & balance: We value rest and recovery. That's why you'll enjoy 30 vacation days plus public holidays to recharge and return inspired. Learning & development: Your growth is our priority. We provide an annual budget dedicated to courses, conferences, or any resources that help you expand your skills. Ownership & participation: As part of our equity program, you'll directly share in our success and the value we create together. Data Scientist (Measurement & Signal Processing) (f/m/d)
Full TimeOn-siteMid
pythongomachine learningdata sciencerestelectrical engineering+5

Description QuantumDiamonds is a novel equipment vendor from Germany which builds magnetic field imaging systems based on quantum sensors. Our Data Science & Machine Learning team in Pre-Development owns the chain from raw quantum sensor data to the current map an engineer can act on: the statistical evaluation of the sensor signal, the simulation and training data pipelines, the reconstruction of fields and currents, with the machine learning pipeline for three-dimensional current in production today, and the validation of every map against simulation and reference measurements. We are looking for a Data Scientist to own one question for the team: can we trust this map, and if not, where in the chain did it go wrong? Every measurement, in our lab or at a customer, gets a verdict and a reason. You build the checks that produce it, keep the catalogue of known artifacts and reference measurements behind it, and make it automatic for the routine cases so that your judgement goes to the hard ones. When a check fails, you trace it to its source in the chain, fix it when it sits in the evaluation, and drive the fix with the owning engineer when it does not. Our Applications engineers, who run the customer projects, rely on your verdict for what reaches the customer. A senior data scientist on the team backs you on the hard calls at the start; the aim is that you become the owner of this question. This is a hands-on analysis role, not a research position: the data is real, the chain is in daily use, and every improvement you make shows up in the next measurement. Your background does not need to be in quantum sensing or semiconductors: if you have learned to tell signal from noise, calibration errors and artifacts in another demanding measurement system, we want to hear from you. What will you do Build the checks, from raw quantum sensor signal to field map, that tell a trustworthy measurement from a measurement or reconstruction artifact, on lab and customer data alike. Trace a failed check to its source in the chain, fix it when it sits in the evaluation, and drive the fix with the owning engineer when it does not. Keep the catalogue of known artifacts and the set of reference measurements that make every new verdict faster and more defensible. Validate the team's evaluation methods against simulation and reference measurements before they go into daily use. Give our Applications Engineers and the team a clear verdict on each measurement, and feed what breaks back into the next generation of the QDm. What is expected of you 3+ years of professional experience outside academia applying data science to measurement or imaging data from physical instruments. A degree in physics, electrical engineering, applied mathematics or a related discipline; a PhD is welcome, not required. Solid statistics and signal or image processing: you ask where a signal comes from, tell it from noise and systematics, and show it with numbers. Fluency in Python and the scientific stack, with version control and tests as a habit. AI coding agents are part of how you work, and you check their output the way you check your own. Comfortable operating our systems in the lab when your analysis needs data. Fluent English; German is an advantage, not a requirement. On-site in Munich. Experience with magnetic or electromagnetic measurements or semiconductor failure analysis is a plus. What we cannot teach on the job is rigor with real measurement data and the habit of turning one analysis into a method the team can reuse, and that is exactly what we want you to bring. Our benefits Mission: At QD, we're driven by more than just building great products - we aim to make a lasting difference. Joining us means contributing to meaningful work that goes beyond business as usual. Impact & growth: This is an exciting stage of our journey, and your voice matters. We bring a private equity mindset to enterprises, and we differentiate ourselves through the rigour of our thinking and the humanity of our execution: we combine deep data and analysis with market knowledge, and we work side by side with clients so that value is realised and sustained. Our AI-Enabled Operations team helps organisations reimagine how their operations work and create measurable value through AI, automation and operational improvement – from finding where AI genuinely pays back to making sure the benefits land in the P&L. You will work with clients across our industry sectors: Financial Services, Products & Services, Energy & Resources, Pharmaceuticals & Life Sciences, and Government. What you will be doing Run operational, AI and automation diagnostics across functions and end-to-end processes, using data to baseline cost, effort and productivity and to quantify opportunities Identify how each opportunity is best addressed – process redesign, better data, AI, automation or a combination – and build the business case Redesign end-to-end processes to remove unnecessary work before applying technology, and design the human oversight, controls and governance that AI-enabled operations need Translate business needs into clear requirements for technical delivery teams, and test whether proposed solutions are fit for purpose Support implementation and adoption alongside systems integrators, vendors and the people who do the work, and track benefits through to realisation Help clients build their own capability through knowledge transfer, so that improvements last Work closely with colleagues across Baringa to bring the right expertise to each client Support the development of more junior colleagues and contribute to growing the UK EVC team Your skills and experience We are looking for curious, collaborative people with typically 3 to 6 years of relevant experience who enjoy solving problems and seeing their work make a measurable difference for clients. This role is pitched at Senior Consultant level. We also welcome applications from candidates at Consultant and Manager level, and will confirm the level through the interview process. Experience in operational excellence, operational transformation, end-to-end process improvement or AI and automation-enabled operations Experience in a top-tier management or technology consultancy Strong analytical and commercial skills, including building cost and productivity baselines and business cases from imperfect data Ability to break down complex problems, identify the key messages and communicate them clearly, in writing and in person An understanding of AI and automation sufficient to assess opportunities and test proposed solutions, and the ability to translate between business and technical teams A collaborative approach and comfort working with clients and colleagues at all levels Ability to travel for up to 50% of the time, and to travel and work within the EU/UK Nice to have: Experience applying generative or agentic AI in an operational setting beyond proof of concept Familiarity with process intelligence, automation and AI platforms such as Celonis , ARIS, Signavio , Appian, Pega, ServiceNow, Power Platform, Azure AI or Copilot Knowledge of BPMN, APQC, Lean, Six Sigma or similar process improvement methods We know that strong candidates do not always meet every requirement. If this role interests you and you meet many of the criteria, we encourage you to apply. We are happy to discuss flexible working arrangements. What a career at Baringa will give you Putting People First.
